How to get past stress eating

FoFor the most part I eat well, try to get veggies in, don't eat much sugar. But when I am stressed I'll reach for my kid's snacks that aren't necessarily unhealthy but not the eating plan I'm trying to stick to. Is there any tips anyone has that have helped them? I got seaweed and green tea in hopes of reaching for that instead, as a start.

Sounds like you got the right idea. Replace the habit of grabbing snacks when feeling triggered. It’s about noticing how you’re feeling, sitting with the feeling for a moment and then choosing a different reaction. I like to walk/run when I’m stressed or angry. If I can’t get away real quick maybe I’ll throw on a mindfulness video and do some stretching and breathing or I’ll take a bath, that’s always quite relaxing. Tea helps me with boredom grazing and water water water helps keep me feeling full. I’m sure others have lots of tips too but the main point is to recognize when you’re triggered and make a conscious choice to do something different than you normally do. And then do that again and again and eventually you’ll create a new habit.

Get healthy snacks for your kids. Teaching them how to eat properly will benefit them in the long run.
Make a plan for how you will deal with stress when it happens. Take a walk, a bath, work out, punch something soft. read a book. anything that keeps you out of the kitchen.
Find a way to negate the stressful event. If it is something that reoccurs, can you find a way to change it before it happens.
Give yourself some stress eating room. I eat under my mfp goal because I go out to eat with my mother once a week and don't want to worry about where we go or what I eat. So you can put these snacks into your plan.
