Hello, my name is Kimberly and I go by Kimberly and NOT Kim. I am joining My Fitness Pal to keep track of my food intake and exercise journey with Type 2 diabetes. Looking forward to meeting some of you and getting ideas and help with the app and learning from other's, things they have found work and/or don’t work and to find some friends to support and be supported by.

Hello Kimberly, welcome (I am not the welcome committee, sadly there is none) :-)

I have two autoimmune disorders myself, so I know what you are going through. I have RA and Celiac disease. I just had a total thyroidectomy (it wasn't cancer yeah) so Hashimotos is off the table.

I am taking meds for the RA and prednisone is/was one of them. I took 40 mg for three years and as you probably know, it makes you hungry and you eat like a chipmunk. Dealing with a chronic pain disease made me lazy. I didn't want to move much, because moving hurt.

Last year in September I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes which could come from the prednisone (but now I am on a low dose of 5-10mg/daily) but also from my wrong eating and my sedated lifestyle. I had to do something and that's what I did. I was offered Ozempic (of course) but I denied it. I didn't want to depend on another medication, also I needed to change my lifestyle for good - not just temporarily to lose weight.

I am gluten-free, and dairy-free, with no added sugar (only sometimes,) and in February, during pre-op my A1C was already down to 5.5 (from 6.8). Diabetes is officially off the table. I have lost 46 lbs so far and I am on a journey to lose 100 more.

We can be friends, but it doesn't help because we can't communicate with friends here. There are many discussion threads, perhaps you can find one and join, also there are numerous groups, but sadly too many are not active anymore.

I started my own group for determined losers like me :)

You can join if you want, but please don't feel like you have to.
