Im new!

Hi everyone ☺️ I am really thinking I need some help with tracking of food choices to help lose about 20lbs. Should I upgrade to the paid version of the app? Is it worth it??

My generic advice is to start with free MFP, unless you can read the list of premium-only features and know with major confidence that you absolutely, positively need one or more of them to succeed.
The basics are generally identical between free and premium: The food and exercise databases, the logging process, and that sort of thing. Either product, for most people the first few weeks will be spent learning how to use those functions, and learning whether the calorie counting process in general suits them.
Knowing those things helps a person know whether they want to continue with MFP at all, plus learning the basics is a better foundation for understanding which if any of the premium features are worth the cost to you as an individual. There's some good stuff, for sure, but I think most people will focus on those basics for a few weeks before having enough mindshare to benefit from those things.
Some people here use free MFP forever, but others decide to go to premium. I used free MFP all through weight loss, and in the early months of maintenance. Now I have premium, and like the more fine-grained control over macronutrient goals, among other features. Trying to benefit from those up front probably would've been overwhelming, but that's just me.
Besides a case where a person knows that some premium feature is vital for them, there are a couple of other cases where premium at the start might be good: People with very low internet speeds will like the ad-free aspect of premium, because pages load faster. Also, some people tend to take a thing more seriously if they put money into it, so those people may be more successful if they pay for premium.
Just my opinions, though. YMMV.

I just wanted to add a welcome to mfp!
I think Ann has pretty much covered the question you asked. I used the trail and didn't find anything in it that I personally needed. So it really is up to the individual. Good luck to you.
