Hello Faith. I am disabled so I'm not going to exercise as much or in the same way as someone who doesn't have my issues. Thankfully you can lose weight without exercise. You just have to create a calorie deficit. I would talk to your doctor about what exercise is safe for you to do at just try to move as much as you can.

    hi @faithroman0703 welcome to MFP!

it’s pretty simple- and that watch is going to rock your world, if you choose to use it properly, in conjunction with weighing your food and logging it here.

I started at age 58, 225lb, well into obese category. I thought I knew about nutrition (those elementary school health classes, and the food pyramid, right?!🙄) but I didn’t bother about nutrition.

I very stupidly thought that doing a three mile walk in the evening was offsetting the massive snack I’d have when I got home (we’re talking 3/4 or all of a family bag of Oreos, or half a carton of Breyers). I’d earned it, right? But the weight kept climbing.

It wasn’t until I started logging and invested in an Apple Watch that things shifted in to place.

Apple Watch forced me (in a good way) to understand.

I learned that a three mile walk might burn a serving of Oreos (which was a lousy 2 cookies 😭) but it certainly wasn’t burning off the whole container.

I began to make the connection between calories in and calories out, and that helped me to choose healthier choices. That was when the weight began to come off.

I started challenging myself to close all my rings, joined some of the anonymous Apple Watch challenges, then challenged myself to close my “move” ring twice or more.

I started looking at my heart rate, would do the “mindfulness” thing several times a day, trying to see how slow I could make my heart rate, and how to do it.

Apple Watch is simply a tool, but an amazing one, if used thoughtfully, wisely and well.

By the reverse token, if you are OCD (like moi) it can also be a damnation. You can find yourself screaming at those anonymous challenge team members, or fixating on how many times you can turn or advance your rings in a day. Apple does not recognize rest or vacations and will keep setting you higher and higher goals til they become unobtainable. Be very careful of falling in to that trap.

I’ve been using Apple Watch since very late 2018 synced to MFP. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions. It’s simply a phenomenal tool if you use it, and don’t let it use you. 😝
