Yeah, I was gonna say, "Fork Put-Downs and Table Push-Aways."

As far as home workouts, there are a lot of videos on YouTube. Dance, aerobics, body weight conditioning, etc.

I don't think this is emphasized enough. People don't realize how little exercise calorie burn actually contributes to weight loss when compared to an appropriate food calorie intake number whatever that may be.

    100% what they said.

An exercise you actually enjoy - so will do regularly - is more beneficial than a theoretically more ideal thing that you dislike, so procrastinate and skip with the slightest excuse.

The real prize here is to find happy new habits that not only get you to a healthy weight, but keep you there long term, ideally permanently.

So, fun exercise. Experiment until you find the fun. Mean time, the minimum is practical, tolerable, convenient. It doesn't even have to be official exercise: Any additional body movement is a good thing.

Weight loss is about achieving the right calorie balance, and that can happen entirely on the eating side of the equation. Mostly, exercise is to improve fitness, health, appearance and enjoyment. Doing some lets us eat a bit more and therefore get better nutrition while losing at the same sensibly moderate rate.

You asked about the most effective “exercise” which makes me think you’re looking for a “single exercise” rather than single “exercise routine.” It that’s the case, there isn’t one. There is no “one thing” where if you do this one thing and nothing else you will still achieve success. Except for “eating less calories in a day than your body needs in order to function.” There’s no “100 sit-ups per day,” or “30 minutes of planks per day” that will compensate for not doing the other things properly. Think of it like asking “which tire on the car is most important? If I wanted to drive my car with only one tire attached, which one should choose?”

It is 80% diet and 20% exercise. Cleaning up the diet a bit will have a great impact on your weight on it's own. Adding literally any exercise on top of a good diet will bring great results if you stay consistent. Which exercise? You tell me. Something that is appropriate to your body composition, ability and is enjoyable. From my own experience I really enjoyed weighted jump rope. It was the most fun cardio I've ever done and loved it. So it was effective for me. Experiment and see what YOU like, be it navy burpees, kettlebell ballistics or some calisthenics home routine.

there’s articles all over my Apple News feed that simply walking is the best exercise.

(Assuming you enjoy it of course!)

Great mood booster, keeps the ole joints fairly limber, Vitamin D, yada yada yada

    in my experience, three suggestions:

1.) get walking shoes professionally fitted. Even if you pay a bit more to do so, you can order replacements online if you don’t care to support the local store I lost a big toe nail faffing around in cheap , poorly fitting shoes

2.) quality socks I have just now- after seven years of daily use- had to start replacing my Balega socks If you’d asked me when I got them- at the running store's suggestion- if socks would have made such a difference, I would have snorted at you. I’m a believer now. They’re expensive, but I just bought eight fresh pair, in a rather putrid color that was on clearance, at half price. They don’t even show above the shoes, so who cares?

3.) a walking buddy is awesome and motivating to get out the door , be it a friend,l neighbor, podcast in your ear, or a four legged pal.

Walking would be the most effective exercise for fat/weight loss.

Running and other high intensity training takes up a lot of energy, which is obtained by carbs. Though it is a good source of cardio it doesn't significantly contribute to weight loss unless you run a good few miles every day or do 30 minutes of HIIT every day, you know what I mean. Meanwhile, seeing as walking does not take up much energy, it almost directly targets your lipids (fat stores) which can lead to drastic fat & weight loss. A 30 minute walk a day can get you far (though it takes time to see that.) While high intensity training can be good for weight loss, consider the lower intensity training as well because that's where the real party begins.

Agreeing with the rest of the comments, though, dieting is the most important part if you want to lose weight. Replace your sweet-cravings and unhealthy fast-food diet with healthy foods that you'd still like. (For example, I used to eat a muffin every day, which was 214 calories, but I've switched to small apple slices, which were approximately 30-50 calories. They both filled me up nearly the same, but one is clearly healthier than the other.) For me, this was a huge game changer; beginning this sort of diet, I lost two pounds in one week and still counting, so doing this is very highly recommended by me. Good luck on your weight loss journey!
