I log 10000 steps and my calorie target is decreased- why?

New user. I have logged over 10,000 steps today and I get 1644 calories taken OFF. What is the logic behind that? (Step target was 10,000)

The way the adjustment is derived is by comparing your total calories burned from your tracker against the total calories already provided by MyFitnessPal.
When you have earned more calories than MyFitnessPal has already provided, you will then see the difference as your adjustment.
** You can view a breakdown of this calculation by tapping on the adjustment line and then on the adjustment itself (above the Learn More button) in the app, or by clicking the "i" next to the adjustment line in the Cardiovascular section online at www.MyFitnessPal.com
The total calories from MyFitnessPal will include any calories instantly provided by adding separate exercises (outside of your partner adjustment) to MyFitnessPal, along with the calories needed to reach the goals you set when joining the program. In short, this means when exercises are added to your diary, this makes it harder to earn additional adjustments via your "general activity" tracker- because that exercise has already been accounted for. If we also gave you credit for your steps, we would essentially be giving you double credit in this case.
In addition, you have elected to have a negative calorie option when using an integrated all day tracker app with our program. When you elect the negative calorie option, you are choosing to have the program deduct calories from what we have initially provided for you, if you end up not actually burning those calories based upon the information provided from your tracker. This deduction will actually look like an addition in your account, since those calories were not actually earned but already provided, we essentially add them back into your account to make up for this difference. If you turned this off, you would instead get a "0" for your step adjustment.
To elect to turn on or off the negative calorie option, please go online to www.MyFitnessPal.com, and then go to the main "settings" tab, then go to "calorie adjustments" and either put a check in the box to enable the negative option or remove the check to disable it. Then make sure to update the changes at the bottom of the page.
