This month has been very stressful so I'm not doing as well plus I'm stress eating. But I'm not giving up - just gotta reset and try to do better.

@itladyee Sorry to hear about your DH's mother. It gets scary when they get that old (even when they're in good health).
Both of our parents have been gone for some time. My Mom was in great health (only 82). She drove and was involved with many community things. She had lots of friends. She wasn't feeling well one day and had gone to urgent care. After she got there she had some sort of episode. They called 911 and was taken to the hospital. Then they called me. The bad thing is that I was 700 miles away and totally broke. My brother lived in Georgia at the time and was in the hospital with some sort of procedure being done. To make a long story short, I managed to get to SoCal and I spent most of the year with her. She had brain cancer and had no warning. She kept her wits about her, except for her very short-term memory. She was having whole brain radiation because there were so many tumors. I was there on my birthday and she took me to dinner. A couple of days later, she said that I had a birthday coming up and wanted to take me to dinner. I said, "Mom, you already did.". She responded, "So, I'll take you again." I was driving of course. I wish she were still here. But, it was an honor to be able to care for her and it was fun spending time with her.
It sounds like several of you are having stressful times. I'm not an expert in that department. But I don't think drinking is the solution…for me it just makes anxiety worse. There's a few in this group that can give you better suggestions for handling stress. For me, I would quit my job and go hang out at some sandy beach. It sounds like a joke, but unfortunately it's not…been there, done that 🙃
I'm cooking my cat a wild Alaskan Sockeye salmon filet today. I just want her to eat. We're having grilled chicken hindquarters. What's wrong with this picture? 🤔

Way to work it @SparkSpringtime69 - I can hear your excitement with 3 NA days, that’s SO SO good! Hold onto that feeling!
I was happy to read your update that you were tapering down @LittleSurferGirl7. That alone shows a huge effort towards LA. Today is a new to day to try again!
I know what you mean about just being in a mood for a drink @itladyee - you know you are not alone! And you’ve honestly had some super rough days! I truly hope your Sunday goes much better.
Sorry to hear about the stress @tmbg1 - why does this never fully go away! Hope you have some time to relax today.6 -
It’s Sunday! I am ending this week with 4 LESS glasses of wine and an additional NA day compared to last week.
Yesterday, I chose to have an NA night and followed through. I drove to the store around 3:00 pm to pick up Yasso fro yo coffee/chocolate chip bars so I could look forward to that treat after our Cobb salad dinner. Thank you @globalhiker for the ingenious replacement idea. It was very satisfying and then I finished the night with my favorite bedtime ritual - made Sweet Dreams herbal tea, cleansed my face and applied good skin care products. Followed by a bit of Calm powder and 1 mg melatonin. Started reading a new book in bed and after about 15 minutes, lights out!
As another LA friend used to say, “May you find your best resolve today.”6 -
Congrats @SparkSpringtime69 on 3 days straight. When that momentum comes, it's good to just ride the wave.
Wow @itladyee a 50% cut in pay sounds like the company is going belly up. I'm in shock over it. You sound incredibly smart and will get out of this mess one way or the other.
Thank you @Michieb125 for the Sweet Dreams tea comment. I need sleep badly and picking this up today.
@LittleSurferGirl7 did you say you slept until 7:15? What is your secret? I fall asleep in seconds but wake up at 11, 2, 3:30 and then give up. I think I slept 7.5 hrs. once this year.
Enjoy what's left of the weekend -

@LittleSurferGirl7 happy to hear your cat seems to be on the mend. I totally agree with the food logging - I always seems to eat better when I consistently log, and even better if I plan and log the meals ahead of time, and stick to the plan of course 😉. Keep up the great work with your tapering plan - it sounds like it's working.
@itladyee wow, you're sure dealing with a lot of stressful things! I'm sorry to hear about your MIL's illness, I hope the docs can get her back on track with her meds. Glad to hear you stepped back off the ledge last night 🙂
@tmbg1 It sounds like you're heading into the new week with a good mindset for a reset.
@Michieb125 Thank you for the encouragement, and congratulations on the great LA week.
@globalhiker Thank you too for encouraging words, the wave continues tonight as I'm currently sipping a lavender camomile tea.
Your sleep schedule sounds like mine - to sleep pretty easily, then waking every 1.5 to 2 hours all night long. If I sleep 3 hours straight I think "wow what a treat".

A-9It looks like I’m on an every other day kick right now. 🙁 My sleep and weight are telling on me, too.
Last week’s work trip went well. Hubby got to see family, but he is still very concerned about his dad. I told him it may be time to rally his twin brother and his half sister to figure out what to do, but under NO CIRCUMSTANCES are his dad and stepmother moving in! I would literally move out if he decided to move them in. I can’t take it any more of these crazy-a_s_s old people being in my house.
Tomorrow morning, I’m heading to DC for another business trip. It’s just me this time, hubby is staying home. My coworkers are a little miffed about that because they really enjoyed meeting him last week and getting drunk with him. I stayed sober for that work-related dinner. Glad I did because one of us had to drive the rental car!
I won’t be drinking on this DC trip. As a matter of fact, I’m going to use the time as a reset. When I get home, I have to attend my son’s senior awards ceremony that evening. Then, Friday is graduation, Saturday is party prep, and Sunday is the party.
I don’t think I’m going to survive this week.🫤 I am not dealing with the stress well at all. And, I have no break moving into next week.

@globalhiker Yes, I did sleep until 7:15 am. I'm not sure what I did. But it just worked out that way. For a long time after retiring, that was about my normal wake-up time. Then I started setting my alarm because I felt I was sleeping too late. When I started drinking more that's when it went to waking up at all hours of the morning. One of the reasons that I retired early was because I did quit a few jobs and went to find a sandy beach 😁 But, everything has worked out in the long run.
@SparkSpringtime69 Congrats on 3 days AF! It sounds like you may be getting to 4 days. I'm wondering how you're feeling…if you're feeling better? Yes, my cat does seem to be feeling much better. As long as she keeps eating, I think she will be fine. I agree when I log my foods, I often plan them ahead (oftentimes the night before). Of course, sometimes I will change my mind the next day and change things. I eat a lot of the same meals, so I save them as "Meals", so it's easy to log. I also like logging because I'll log everything for the day. If I notice my calories are too high, or maybe I don't have enough protein or fiber for the day, I can readjust. It just makes you more aware of what you are consuming.
@NonnieDoiron Sorry you're having such stressful times. Congratulations to your son on his graduation. That will be a nice time.
I do have whiskey today and will have some left over in the morning. I still get nervous of not having anything if I wake up at 4 am. But I have been drinking much less and am feeling much better. I'm fairly sure I won't be buying anything more tomorrow. I want to be in tip-top shape for Tinker's vet appointment on Wednesday. Plus, I'm involved with the 10 pound challenge…kind of a kick in the rear end 🙂

Hope everyone had a great weekend.
We had family over to celebrate my sister-in-law’s birthday this weekend. It was my planned time to drink, and I did—from Friday to Sunday. I noticed I binge drank each day (3+ drinks), which made me reflect on my habits. I’m planning to stay AF until at least the weekend of May 30th.

I don’t chase perfection—I build momentum. Today is going to be a good day!
Spent a good amount of time yesterday just sitting outside, soaking in the sun while listening to an audio book. The weather was just about perfect, not too hot or cold. It was a great day to push the reset button!
My husband, who's not really a wine drinker, shared a Pino Noir with me with dinner: pellet grilled chicken, corn on the cob and an arugula salad.
I did think a little more about the work thing and I'd say the writing is on the wall.
I don't think they thought this all the way through. We need sales….we are not getting sales at 100% effort so when you reduce our sales staff by 50% effort…sales will not increase. Our contribution of our salaries, will increase cash flow temporarily…but next on tap, the impact of the tariffs.@tmbg1 ~ I hope you were able to take a stress break! I see another AF day….good job!
@LittleSurferGirl7 ~ thanks for sharing the memories of your Mom. A sandy beach sounds nice….unfortunately not one near me. Glad you've been consuming less and feeling better. That's great news.
@SparkSpringtime69 ~ nice streak. Keep it going!
@Michieb125 ~ going to make lemonade out of those lemons! DH's Mom will hopefully come home today. Luckily, I was already in downsize financial planning so I just need to dig a little deeper. I could choose to go do something else but … I'm enjoying the down time and lack of responsibilities.☺️ Kudos to your LA success!
@globalhiker ~ I have history with the owners of this company. They started this company in 2016, I joined in 2018 and it's never been on the upside for very long. First, they purchased the company for way more than they should have with high hopes of what could be. Then manufacturing shortages, price increases, COVID, and now, soon to come tariffs. It doesn't look good, but I'm also surprised they've made t this long. Re Sleeping > I don't usually shower at night, but I do find that when I do, I have a more restful night of sleep.
@NonnieDoiron ~ Glad the work trip went well. {{{hugs}}} for you and your DH. You are correct that the offspring should get together and start planning the future, but it's a hard conversation to have and most avoid it. My DH has two siblings living with his Mom. They don't contribute 1 cent to the household and the house is on a reverse mortgage. When (not sounding morbid) she does go…they will be in big trouble. I wish you well on your trip and it looks like you've got a busy weekend. Enjoy the party and hopefully find some quiet time for you! One step, one day at a time.

@NonnieDoiron The DC trip sounds like it will be good for you - a break from any family drama and chance to reset. Congratulations to your son on his graduation!
@LittleSurferGirl7 I did get 4 days, working on number five today. I've been feeling much better. I just mentioned yesterday how I feel like it's a gift if I sleep 3 hours straight - well last night it was 3 1/2 hours! And I woke up feeling fantastic instead of groggy and lightheaded.
It sounds like your tapering is working for you, keep up the good work and you'll have an AF day in no time.@itladyee boy does a massage sound good to me right now LOL. Enjoy the downtime while you can.

I started the Annie Grace 30 Day Experiment a couple of days ago - day 3 was today. She had an interview with a guy who explained how sleep is negatively affected by alcohol. I know we probably already know this, but the science of it was interesting. We're supposed to be getting 5-6 REM cycles per night, alcohol causes us to only get 1-2, not enough to keep our bodies/minds running as they should.
Also, when we get ready for bed our brain starts to wind things down as we get ready to sleep. When we drink alcohol our brain relies on that instead of doing it's own thing. When we stop drinking, our brain can readjust back to not relying on it; it takes 2-5 days for that. Then it takes a couple of weeks for your body/brain to catch up with everything it should be doing.
Interesting how resilient our brains and bodies can be if we just give them a chance to recover and heal.
Have a great week my AF/LA friends!😎

@SparkSpringtime69 You are really on a roll. Good for you! Keep it up!
I thought the Annie Grace 30 Day Experiment was a book. You must be listening to a podcast or something? I've never listened to a podcast. I wouldn't even know where to start. I used to be quite knowledgeable about computer stuff. But lately I can't keep up and really don't want to. Also, I use my desktop most of the time. Phones are too much hassle for me.
Anyways, you're doing great. I'll be there soon myself. I won't say when because I don't want to jinx myself.
Have a great rest of your day everyone!
6 -
@LittleSurferGirl7 thank you for the encouragement, you'll get there soon enough.
As for the Annie Grace thing - I think there's a book too, but I'm doing it online. I don't listen to podcasts much either. In case you or anyone else is interested, here's the link:
Like most everything online, there's a book of course, and other content and programs that you have to pay for, but this 30 day experiment is free, and it seems like it has some good info and suggestions, at least so far.
I don't post in the community forums there, I've just been watching the videos and journaling along with it some, just to give me some new things to think about and try.

@tmbg1 Good luck on your reset! Having a positive attitude is so important!
@Walktostaysane I completely understand the all or nothing mentality. Hope you're racking up the AF days!
@margim5 Good job on the LA even when you have a drink you didn't plan.
@SparkSpringtime69 Yay for 4 days in a row! That is a great feeling! And thank you for the link. I mulled over the alcohol experiment a few years ago and never really committed. I'm going to check it out again and perhaps start after my next getaway even it I just use as a reset.
@Michieb125 You're improvement is inspiring for us all or nothing peeps. Hope your Yasso bars are delicious! I might try something similar. And thank you for the reminder “May you find your best resolve today.” LOVE this!!
@globalhiker Thank you for the replacement suggestion. I do believe that this is KEY! And thank you for always being here with suggestions and inspiration
@itladyee I'm sorry to hear about your stress and that additional pay cut. Oof. That has got to hurt! I pray that things improve quickly for you and that you can focus on the positive things in the meantime. I know what you mean about enjoying the downtime. Since SO sold the company AND paid my much of my debt, I don't HAVE to work and I have also been enjoying the downtime. Oh, and no. I have not gotten it together, but I have big plans for this week. I actually did get my weight down a few pounds and then I blew it bigtime over the weekend and yesterday.
@NonnieDoiron I hope you get some stress relief on your DC trip and get your reset! Congrats to your son and your family on his graduation!
@LittleSurferGirl7 I'm so happy that your cat is feeling better! Prayers for continued improvement and comfort for you and your kitty. I'm also happy that you have begun to taper! You can do this! And, like @SparkSpringtime69 said, the alcohol experiment is on the computer in a pretty easy to follow format. Even if you don't jump on board to the full commitment, it has some good information! Keeping you in my prayers!
As for me, I'm still struggling, but still trying. I, too, need a reset…on food and drink. I was doing OK last week, then we travelled again. It was our friend's 21st birthday, and he wanted to celebrate it in Biloxi, MS. My plan was keep carbs and wine in check and get a walk in each day, but I did not stick to the plan. We got back yesterday, and I plan to keep carbs and wine in check this week! To be honest, I have 2 bottles of Pinot Noir that I will finish off by Thursday…maybe Friday if I can start later in the evening and microsip…then shoot for a reset.
My daughter, son-in-law, and 6 year old grandson will be here for a week from out of state on Friday and staying with us, so I'll be getting things cleaned up and ready for them this week then we'll doing some fun things throughout the week next week.
Hope everyone has a great, motivated, positive week. Focus on the positive! That's key for me!

FUN TIP: REWARD YOURSELF :)
I'd calculate the $ saved not buying wine or tequila for the week and on Saturdays, I would buy whatever I wanted off Amazon. Beauty products, healthy food items, cooking stuff, books, gadgets, cool socks, earrings. Sometimes I also treated myself by going out for a decadent gelato or a double cappuccino.
I had often rewarded myself with wine at the end of a hard day, a hard run, a strenuous hike, a long flight, a stressful time so I had to learn to reward myself with something else. So this is just for your consideration but it made it a bit of a fun game to incentivize myself to hit my LA goals for the week. And as time went on, I changed my reward to travel. Guys, I saved up for 2 european vacations this fall, funded by wine/tequila/bourbon cost avoidance!
Important to start envisioning the LA life as one that is way more fun and fulfilling, because it really is.
7 -
@SparkSpringtime69 - I may try the experiment again, hopeful that I hear some different. It’s been a few years, when i started here as this is where i got the link. I got tripped up when there was NO room for moderation and alcohol was poison. I believe moderation is possible for some, not all. I know, in excess, it’s not good for us but equating to poison did send me over the top
@LittleSurferGirl7 ~ Confirming there is a book as well as the online group.
@Michieb125 ~ I love the replacement treat! I do find that if I put something else in my glass, it helps fight the wine devil!
@chicbuc ~ yeah, it's a bummer but making me thing about some other choices….doesn't it feel great not HAVING to work!!! When COVID happened I was really panicking, but now, not at all. Enjoy your family!
@globalhiker ~ rewards!! Great idea, preferably NOT food related, though!! 😅 Great way to "rethink" the reward at the end of a day.

@globalhiker It is SO important to try to envision AF as MORE fun! I think we get hung up on fun involving drinking. I know I do. If we can have fun without alcohol, life truly begins, imo, and that's coming from someone who drinks to have fun. I'll get there…

Hi all! I just caught up with the last two weeks worth of postings. Have I been away that long??? Apparently.
First of all, big big hug to all of you that are struggling hard with stressful situations. It’s a lot of you all at the same time! I hope things get better and easier.
As for me, my D&C went well, and no bad pathology surprises, so I’m happy about that. Took me about a week to feel better but I’m ship shape again. Speaking of which, we just sailed our boat for 3 long days to her new marina. The weather was for the most part rainy, but we had an experienced captain who made sure we were safe.We had engine problems twice, and the hatch over the forward stateroom (aka where DH and I sleep) was not closed properly, resulting in ALL of the bedding getting soaked when a huge wave crashed over the bow !!!! Luckily the mattress pad was waterproof and we caught it right away. But now I have mountains of laundry. We had to make do with whatever we could use as a pillow and blanket. Ugh. Below is a picture of us trying unsuccessfully to dry the bedding. It looks like Shantytown!
However, I got over my fear of the boat pitching and rolling, and got over my fear of sailing on the ocean! Obviously we wouldn’t attempt it if weather doesn’t allow, but I know I can control the boat, and am so proud of myself.
I’m continuing to moderate, but haven’t backed down to only one drink yet-honestly didn’t even try this past weekend. Good news is I’ve been tracking my food again and my weight is coming down.Hope you all have a good day!
5 -
So great to see you back @Womona! You’ve been missed. You have a beautiful boat and sorry about the wet conditions! But I know you have a fun sailing season ahead.
Love your inspirational post @itladyee - isn’t that true, yesterday is forever gone and we have the precious present to plan for today.Good to see you back after a nice trip @chicbuc! love your positive attitude! I’ve never been to Biloxi but sounds like a lot of fun.
Thanks for the fun tip on rewarding ourselves @globalhiker. This approach would help me stay more mindful about priorities.
You will have to keep us posted on your 30-day experiment @SparkSpringtime69. I have watched a few of the videos in the past. I hear some people do well with the experiment but it’s depending upon a persons goals.Today will be 8 AF days and according to my tracker, quite a few less servings overall on planned wine days. Love data that is motivating :). Continuing to be mindful this week with a goal of 4 more AF nights by Sunday.
Want to get to the store today for some mint Yasso bars! Now that I tried the coffee chip, I think I do like mint the best.Make it a great day!

Only one glass of wine tonight! I thought of pouring another one, but I honestly just want to go to bed. I’m tired!!! Had my first workout in weeks this morning, and it felt so good to get back into it.

Welp. I got rid of the those 2 bottles of Pinot, and I'm starting on an AF stretch TODAY! My goal is to remain AF until next Thursday, so 8 days. I have a lot to do over the next couple of days to get ready for my daughter and her family. I can't wait to see my little Paulie! They lived with us for ~2 years from the time Paul was 2-4 years of age, and I just miss him to pieces!
@Womona Glad your procedure went well and looks like you had a successful trip in spite of the laundry. Good looking boat! And a nice LA night, too.
@Michieb125 Keep that streak going! Woot!
Happy Wednesday all!
