@itladyee Sorry to hear about your DH's mother. It gets scary when they get that old (even when they're in good health).

Both of our parents have been gone for some time. My Mom was in great health (only 82). She drove and was involved with many community things. She had lots of friends. She wasn't feeling well one day and had gone to urgent care. After she got there she had some sort of episode. They called 911 and was taken to the hospital. Then they called me. The bad thing is that I was 700 miles away and totally broke. My brother lived in Georgia at the time and was in the hospital with some sort of procedure being done. To make a long story short, I managed to get to SoCal and I spent most of the year with her. She had brain cancer and had no warning. She kept her wits about her, except for her very short-term memory. She was having whole brain radiation because there were so many tumors. I was there on my birthday and she took me to dinner. A couple of days later, she said that I had a birthday coming up and wanted to take me to dinner. I said, "Mom, you already did.". She responded, "So, I'll take you again." I was driving of course. I wish she were still here. But, it was an honor to be able to care for her and it was fun spending time with her.

It sounds like several of you are having stressful times. I'm not an expert in that department. But I don't think drinking is the solution…for me it just makes anxiety worse. There's a few in this group that can give you better suggestions for handling stress. For me, I would quit my job and go hang out at some sandy beach. It sounds like a joke, but unfortunately it's not…been there, done that 🙃

I'm cooking my cat a wild Alaskan Sockeye salmon filet today. I just want her to eat. We're having grilled chicken hindquarters. What's wrong with this picture? 🤔

@globalhiker Yes, I did sleep until 7:15 am. I'm not sure what I did. But it just worked out that way. For a long time after retiring, that was about my normal wake-up time. Then I started setting my alarm because I felt I was sleeping too late. When I started drinking more that's when it went to waking up at all hours of the morning. One of the reasons that I retired early was because I did quit a few jobs and went to find a sandy beach 😁 But, everything has worked out in the long run.

@SparkSpringtime69 Congrats on 3 days AF! It sounds like you may be getting to 4 days. I'm wondering how you're feeling…if you're feeling better? Yes, my cat does seem to be feeling much better. As long as she keeps eating, I think she will be fine. I agree when I log my foods, I often plan them ahead (oftentimes the night before). Of course, sometimes I will change my mind the next day and change things. I eat a lot of the same meals, so I save them as "Meals", so it's easy to log. I also like logging because I'll log everything for the day. If I notice my calories are too high, or maybe I don't have enough protein or fiber for the day, I can readjust. It just makes you more aware of what you are consuming.

@NonnieDoiron Sorry you're having such stressful times. Congratulations to your son on his graduation. That will be a nice time.

I do have whiskey today and will have some left over in the morning. I still get nervous of not having anything if I wake up at 4 am. But I have been drinking much less and am feeling much better. I'm fairly sure I won't be buying anything more tomorrow. I want to be in tip-top shape for Tinker's vet appointment on Wednesday. Plus, I'm involved with the 10 pound challenge…kind of a kick in the rear end 🙂

@SparkSpringtime69 Thanks, I'll check it out! I may have to wait until this weekend though. The next few days are going to be very busy for me. It does seem interesting.

@SparkSpringtime69 - I may try the experiment again, hopeful that I hear some different. It’s been a few years, when i started here as this is where i got the link. I got tripped up when there was NO room for moderation and alcohol was poison. I believe moderation is possible for some, not all. I know, in excess, it’s not good for us but equating to poison did send me over the top

@LittleSurferGirl7 ~ Confirming there is a book as well as the online group.

@Michieb125 ~ I love the replacement treat! I do find that if I put something else in my glass, it helps fight the wine devil!

@chicbuc ~ yeah, it's a bummer but making me thing about some other choices….doesn't it feel great not HAVING to work!!! When COVID happened I was really panicking, but now, not at all. Enjoy your family!

@globalhiker ~ rewards!! Great idea, preferably NOT food related, though!! 😅 Great way to "rethink" the reward at the end of a day.

So great to see you back @Womona! You’ve been missed. You have a beautiful boat and sorry about the wet conditions! But I know you have a fun sailing season ahead.

Love your inspirational post @itladyee - isn’t that true, yesterday is forever gone and we have the precious present to plan for today.

Good to see you back after a nice trip @chicbuc! love your positive attitude! I’ve never been to Biloxi but sounds like a lot of fun.

Thanks for the fun tip on rewarding ourselves @globalhiker. This approach would help me stay more mindful about priorities.

You will have to keep us posted on your 30-day experiment @SparkSpringtime69. I have watched a few of the videos in the past. I hear some people do well with the experiment but it’s depending upon a persons goals.

Today will be 8 AF days and according to my tracker, quite a few less servings overall on planned wine days. Love data that is motivating :). Continuing to be mindful this week with a goal of 4 more AF nights by Sunday.

Want to get to the store today for some mint Yasso bars! Now that I tried the coffee chip, I think I do like mint the best.

    Make it a great day!

Only one glass of wine tonight! I thought of pouring another one, but I honestly just want to go to bed. I’m tired!!! Had my first workout in weeks this morning, and it felt so good to get back into it.

Welp. I got rid of the those 2 bottles of Pinot, and I'm starting on an AF stretch TODAY! My goal is to remain AF until next Thursday, so 8 days. I have a lot to do over the next couple of days to get ready for my daughter and her family. I can't wait to see my little Paulie! They lived with us for ~2 years from the time Paul was 2-4 years of age, and I just miss him to pieces!

@Womona Glad your procedure went well and looks like you had a successful trip in spite of the laundry. Good looking boat! And a nice LA night, too.

@Michieb125 Keep that streak going! Woot!

    Happy Wednesday all!
