Best resource for customized recipes: ChatGPT

AI has been a game changer for me on my wellness journey. I have used it to create gluten-free vegetarian recipes, high-protein recipes, and low-calorie snacks. It's an amazing tool for dietary restrictions—my sister uses it for her son that has a special diet.

One of my favorite things about using it is that I can tell it what I have in my pantry and fridge and it will incorporate those items so I have minimal waste. It also scales the recipe to make however many servings you like - 1, 2, or 8!

You do have to make sure you are specific in your request, and I usually ask it to give me 5-8 recipes so I can choose the ones I like best. Here are a few examples of prompts I have used for those of you who may not have used this tool before.

  • Create five 2-serving dinner recipes that are high in protein. Avoid fish, broccoli, seafood, and tofu. Try to incorporate what I have in my pantry: 1 lb. ground turkey, 3 bell peppers, 3 fresh tomatoes, 6 eggs, and one can of black beans.
  • Create five 2-serving recipes for "skinny" cocktails. Use some of the liquor that I currently have on hand which is rum, vodka, pineapple rum, Midori, rose wine. Use fresh fruit and make them refreshing for a pool party.
  • Create recipes for 5 no-bake desserts that I can take to a 4th of July pool party. They should have about 10-12 servings, low calorie, low fat, and cost less than $10 total for the entire dish. Make sure they are quick and easy to prepare and use no more than 6 ingredients (excluding staples).
  • What are some good on-the-go whole food snacks that are high in protein? Include serving size and total grams of protein for each answer.

You can also use it to create a meal plan for you for the week, or an exercise regimen, or any number of things for your health journey.

So far most of the recipes I've asked for were perfect! You do have to be specific with ChatGPT (or any AI) because it is very literal. When the output isn't quite what I'm looking for, I just ask it to create them again with my modifications.

I hope this is helpful for everyone! I'd love to hear about any experiences you've had doing this, too.

Yes AI! Chat GPT or Gemini for me.

I can take a picture of a recipe from an old cookbook or typed page, and upload it to my AI and ask for text that I can paste into a word processor or web page. The photo has to be in focus, but the page doesn't have to be flat in the foto.

Or, I can paste a recipe into my AI and ask it to "make this recipe more 'diabetic friendly'" and it will start with substitution suggestions as, "less sour cream and some plain Greek yogurt."

I've also asked the AI to suggest portion sizes and then list nutritional values for a recipe that at first has neither listed. That's helped me add recipes to this site for specialty meals I've come up with.
