meal planning

I am giving the meal planning feature my full attention! I am SOOO tired of thinking about what to eat. Does anyone know how i can alter a recipe within a plan? For example, tomorrow just happened to have planned a chef salad with bacon in it for lunch & a pasta dish that includes bacon for dinner. I’m not going to have bacon twice. Can I eliminate the bacon from the calorie total of the salad? I’m eliminating it either way, but I’m wondering if this type of edit can be done. Thank you!

if you save your “recipes” as meals instead of recipes, individual ingredients will copy over to your diary. Then you can edit or delete the individual ingredients as needed.

Voila! Bacon deleted but diary otherwise unaffected. Or, add that extra egg with a click.

I never use the recipes function anymore. It just doesn’t function well.

Hmm. I’m talking more about the meal planning feature where they create the meals (and therefore the recipes) for you. I’ll try what you said. Thanks!

if I were you- which I’m obvs not- I’d take the time to enter the recipes (as a “meal”) into MFP.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at online recipes and found the nutrition info to be wildly inaccurate.

I was looking at a so called high protein lasagna recipe a few days ago that was 367 calories per serving. Well, I’m here to tell you, the mozarella cheese and noodles called for alone were almost that, and that was before we even got to the ground beef, ricotta, parmesan and sauce ingredients.

I’ve had the same lightbulb moment looking at some of the recipes MFP has emailed me. Either a “high protein” recipe was ridiculously low in protein for a lotta calories, or the calorie count was so off as to be laughable.

My suggestion is to log individual items. At some point down the road, you’ll be able to simply look at an online recipe and know immediately that the calories are wrong, but til then, it’s nice to have data to back up your intuition.

And btw, my own lasagna recipe was twice the protein, and about 400 verified calories per serving. Some of these jokers post anything and call every recipe low cal! high protein! low carb! for ad revenue.

Recipe sites are some of the awfulest clickbait pits out there. If I see a recipe site with those godawful AI weight loss ads sprinkled throughout I move along. The best recipe sites have high quality advertisers.

Yeah, that feature is very new.

People like me who've been here for a long time, have figured out how to use MFP pre-meal-planning-feature and reach our goals . . . we mostly don't have much clue exactly how the new meal planning feature works, so it's hard to give accurate, detailed advice about it.

That's not to diss the advice above, which is good advice, and if the meal planning thingy is structured so that you can use it, it's a good solution.

IME, pretty much everyone here sincerely wants to help new folks succeed, since reaching weight/health goals has been a big quality of life improvement for us. Over time, I'm hopeful that the Community will build up a number of people who benefit from the new meal planning features, succeed, and can give very nuanced advice about how to use it.

Until then, I'm sorry to say some of us long-termers will be shooting in the dark a bit, trying to help. Thanks for understanding!

you cannot import recipes from meal plan into the “create recipe”. I get a 400 code. I made them aware of this and MFP replicated my issue and said they will maybe look at it in the future. I modify all my recipes by changing amounts of ingredients…. More protein and less fat…
the work around that I found is to continue with the Intent Meal planner app. You can import the exact same recipes that meal planner has into the MFP “create recipes”. I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for MFP to change. Perhaps the more people should create tickets and speak up about this for a quicker resolution.
