    hi @JenniferColon5538 welcome to MFP.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I sincerely hope you find your way back to a happier place.

I’m just here to warn you, since you’ve put it out there, are new to the app, and are presumably in a vulnerable position right now.

Beware of friend requests on this app or any other app.

The last several dozen friend requests I’ve received have been from scammers. In fact, since MFP did away with the “friends newsfeed” a year ago, having a friend serves no practical purpose whatsoever. I’ve only had one legit friend request in the past year.

If you get a request from a handsome male, a buff male, one with kids, a truck, a cute dog, or particularly a man in uniform, those are 99.95% likely to be bogus requests from romance or bitcoin type scammers using stolen profile pics. Often, they’ll come in clusters, in hopes you’ll see a profile pic that appeals to you. You may get three or four within a couple of days.

A sure fire clue is a generic copy & paste message, requests coming pretty quick to talk to you outside of MFP. They’ve even got phone software that can remove accents to make it sound like you’re talking to anither American. If they claim to be stationed overseas, a doctor, a high ranking military officer, working with an international aide group, those are red flags as well.

Just be wary. There’s folks on the web who are looking for people whose defenses are down, or whose thoughts are elsewhere, as I’m sure yours might be.

I hate to be Debbie Downer, but I’m willing to bet you’ve either got a couple requests already pending from these low life’s, or will within the next day or two.

I look at Mr S, who just turned 70, and think, “what would I do if you dumb kitten fell off that 2-story ladder you insisted on spending all Saturday on and came in so tired you could hardly eat your dinner”, and I cringe at the thought of life without his crazy self. My head goes whirlwind at the thought. I can’t even imagine coping with the actuality you are.

My heart breaks for you. Hugs, ma’am!

on the plus side, you’ll find a lot of support here on the boards for weight loss (obviously!) but also for lifelong general. The boards posters are terrific, helpful , caring folks, as you can see from the other replies.
