Michelle ~ Quite a menagerie of cute little ceramics! I have wondered where you displayed them and am sure they look great around your pool.
Mshell ~ Wow! Your hiking adventure must have been scary. Thanks for the photos of you and your rescuers being silly.
Lisa ~ Your thoughts on transcendence of transience are very deep. May look for that Youtube video. Glad Kim is keeping you informed and glad that she is getting some support from her nephew and the community.
Mo ~ (((hugs))
Elaine ~ Hope your law case goes well!
Has anyone heard from Vickie lately? I hope her job is going well.

Heather Are you recovered from your UTI? I know for myself when my body is off I have a lot less patience.
I agree Mo nothing is worth your mental and or your physical health. Without your health it makes it quite difficult to lead the life you want.
Saturday a friend invited me to go to a Chamber Orchestra Concert. She gets an extra concert free because she is a season ticket holder. It will make a nice break for me.
Getting ready for these windows is like a mini move. As I put things back I plan to question what goes back and to do a deep clean. I have got my gardens planted for the most part and now it is weeding and maintenance.

Barbiecat ~ I’m still far too out of practice (and shape!) to play an actual match right now so will stick to solo practice and continuing to try and increase my daily activity level to get my knees back in shape. Have been way too sedentary for way too long to just jump back in, despite my desire.
Tennis is really big here in Southern CT so there’s an indoor tennis club I can consider this fall/winter if I’ve made good progress. But my ultimate goal is to start playing out in the sunshine on the newly resurfaced tennis courts that are right on the beach at my town’s local beach! Smashing tennis balls (while picturing certain people’s faces 😜), getting some sunshine, and looking out on the water of the Long Island Sound is my idea of heaven!
Hope everyone has a great day today!

Proudlyblonde - good for you getting out there with your tennis racket, I'm envious that you have a tennis court so close - if I didn't live out in the boonies, I'd be out there batting a few balls myself. (I'd really love to have a basketball hoop. 😁) By the way, you've been great about posting your location… is there a name we can call you? We generally post a name and location at the end of every post, it's easier to keep us all straight that way. 😉
Mo - if I ever had to go to the hospital for an emergency and spend time in ICU, I'd be lucky to have a nurse half as skilled and caring as you. With what you encounter, I'd say you're close to being a MASH unit nurse. Whatever you get paid is not enough. Rest up and enjoy your days off. 😍
Heather - glad things have settled between you and your DH. I think about the pioneer women of the past as I tackle some of these things around here alone. If a world-wide catastrophe were to happen and we'd lose electricity… I could cope for a while but I wouldn't like it, lol. Very grateful for wonderful neighbors.
Barbie - the thing I like about attempting to keep with this "spread" is amazing little surprises I continually run across. When I was mowing the front yard a couple days ago, I spotted a couple little baby pin oak trees sprouting up. I mowed them of course, I don't need a thicket out there. But if humans were to disappear, imagine what this place would look like in 25 years (like the TV show). It's been interesting watching nature heal parts of my lawn after the terrible drought and crane fly infestation we had here several years ago. I've been helping it along by broadcasting various clover, grass and yarrow seeds which are thriving in some areas. Every day I think back to something I learned in my Master Gardener classes.
Any outside temp warmer than about 73F is just too warm for me. Even to ride to town and shop with the A/C on in the car, lol. That's why I plan all of my adventuring in the early morning.
Lisa - thank you for the update on Kim!! Hopefully she'll be able to pop in here prior to surgery. Such great news that she has friends and nephew all pitching in and supporting her.
Elaine - yes, women have come a long way. Do you think you'll miss that job when you retire? Do you plan to keep your hand in the law business just a little? Speaking of women's jobs - I remember when "sales" was a man's world too. Gals had sales jobs at the make-up counter at Macy's, lol. In the late 70's I worked for a seafood processor and distributor in Seattle and had many friends in the industry. We gals had to stay in the office and process paperwork it seems, even though some of us wanted to get on the selling side where the $$ was. Still, it was a dynamic industry and I have lots of good memories.
I've been doing a little decluttering this morning. Moved my free weights from the breakfast nook table to a little chest in the living room where various dog items had collected. Threw some away (kept a couple of Sophie's dog collars) and moved the rest into a kitchen cupboard - found an assortment of expired meds and items for cats and dogs we haven't had for years so pitched them and made plenty of room. Went through the house and collected various knick-knacks I'll drop off at the thrift store.
And have started some major housecleaning - things that I've sadly ignored like really dusting and oiling my dining room table - things that Collette doesn't have time to do.
The sun just came out so should finish mowing in a couple hours.
Make it a fabulous day!
Lanette 😎

Belated weekly check in: Average WT down to 132.5 for last week in May from 132.9, hope it could be a trend.Average steps dipped down to 7331 from last week’s 7609, but made goal 4 days of 7. Ps@2s habit still solid AF days in May summary later…
Yesterday’s spa day eased the soreness. Barely 3500 steps, but remembered Barbie’s patience while healing her back and gave myself grace. Today I will creep back up towards goal by taking dogs to powerline, finishing off the rhodie and maybe even strolling with D.
@mshell0327 Wow! So glad you fell no farther and help was nearby. Here on the coast people die every year from cliff edges crumbling away. Our state parks’ signage is inadequate, should be warning on every trail head about our unstable ground. Great pics and attitude ;)
Ginny, my knees are better weather forecasters than those on tv…
Michele wow you HAVE been busy!
@ProudlyBlonde well done! 20 mins is a GREAT start.
Mo like Heather I have no idea how you do it. Is your hospital short staffed? Is there no staff to better divvy up the complex care cases?
Heather, ain’t communication grand? ((hugs)) to you both.
Barbie the baking ones are set in Ashland? That’s one of our go-to’s to stay when we have to be in Medford for medical appointments. Looking forward to reading them.
Lisa like you, my heart races and I’m shaky for days whenever Joe and I get into it. Fortunately it’s rare.
Elaine, I was the only woman on our network and pc support team for decades. Yes, we’ve come a long way.
Lanette, brava for purging those old rXes. When can you send Colette down? Dusting just doesn’t happen here… ;}
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Got up a bit early today and picked up MIL's dog to take him for his first walk at the wetlands- Went on a different path than I usually do(don't care for this one when I am by myself because there is a very isolated area but ok with the dog with me). That path is exactly 1hr to walk.
Stopped back at my house, gave him his flea/tick shower and dropped him back at his house.
Grabbed a quick lunch and now about ready to head back to walk another hour at the wetlands. May not do the full hour, will wait and see. I will have plenty of time before I get Ezzie from school. Usually don't have her on Tuesdays but her grandma can't pick her up today so I told her mom I will.Want to get the last of the things from the greenhouse out and planted in bigger pots. Will be nice not having to worry about it being too hot in there and frying plants.
Need to also work on the section of the catio- one of the kittens got out after another neighborhood cat started trying to fight with them. Looked over and she was crying on the outside of the catio. That was at 2:30AM- got her right back in and then checked and found where she got out. Blocked it with some potted plants for now-wasn't up to fixing it right at that time in the morning.

OMG, mshell0327, that Rescue Team shot is AWESOME! If nothing else, that was worth it! lol EMTs are such hams. Glad you weren't hurt badly.
Lanette, The deck actually faces north! I already have several hangers up and they survived a bit of a storm last night. Oh my! Don Fiore! I just love him. Must get back into regular movement with old Don.
Thanks for the updates Lisa... So glad that Kim has a strong community.

Sorry - my name is Lynn. Proudly representing the blonde community for 54 years! 😂
Grandmallie - if you don’t mind, I’d rather not say my specific location. I’m sort of weird like that when online. But happy to be a part of this seemingly great group of ladies!

😀 Proudlyblonde, good that you can practice tennis by yourself. I have been fortunate that my exercise has been walking, line dancing, and riding my exercise bike. No partner needed.
😀 Lanette, every single item that is discarded or dealt with is a huge decluttering win. Congrats to you for all you did.
😀 Barbara, the baking books are set in Ashland and her descriptions of the city and the Rogue Valley and all the area around Ashland are great.
😀 Lynn, the reason we like to know about locations has to do with weather, seasons, gardening. What someone says about what's growing in their garden or how it's too hot or cold to exercise outdoors, it helps to know where they are. A non specific location is enough—-when someone says New England, Mid-Atlantic, NW WA, or Tasmania, it tells me a lot while still being pretty private.
😀 Kitchen light repaired quickly and for a reasonable price, most of the yard watered using only one hose, one more panel of the fence washed (14 out of 22), hour long walk with my friend and Annie at noon. Life is good.

Good afternoon, ladies! I figured I better check in before my son/grandson and I head off to the gym. It's been an extra busy few days. End of the school year concerts and clubs. He is in concert band and jazz band (saxophone), plus choir and was nominated to perform in the Maine ACDA festival and has been accepted to the Chamber Singers. So, four concerts, plus marching in the Memorial Day parade with the school band and marching in another parade to kick off summer with our Karate school on this upcoming Saturday. We also had stripe testing at Karate and his guitar lessons and youth group. He wears me out! It's a good thing I'm retired! I hope you are all doing well and are ready for summer. I actually enjoy all the season, but I'm always excited to see each one arrive. Being in Maine we get to experience each of them to the fullest.
To Mo: Wow, you are amazing! My heart breaks just reading about the challenges of the wee littles. I can imagine it can take an emotional toll caring for them and seeing their distress. Thank you for stepping up to take on such a difficult and inspiring profession.
I kicked butt at the dojo last night, literally! Well, maybe not butt, just wave masters, LOL. The sweat poured off me, we call it "leaking awesome" and according to Fitbit, I burned about 350 cals in that one hour. My hips and lower back ache today for it, so I will simply ride the recumbent bike at the gym tonight.
You all have a terrific evening! Hasta la Pasta!

Lanette – you don’t have to mow under the power lines? We have to mow under ours. Admitted, there’s green weeds there, but it’s green!
They added another evening for ceramics. Now it’s two nights. Tues and Thurs so that works
Heather – so sad to hear that you and Johnny had such an argument. But glad that you guys are in a better place now
Lisa – thanks for keeping us updated about Kim
Elaine – we’re glad you found us
Now I wish I’d put notes next to the picture. Like the one of the big mermaid, those shells are there for a reason...lol she’s my anatomically correct mermaid...right down to the butt crack!
Vince put out the last of the ceramics – a toucan. He had to fixit on it’s perch (PVC) so that if the glue doesn’t hold, it won’t fall to the ground
Love and hugs being sent to Kim along with good thoughts.
Carol – we have a pergola over the equipment pad (so that the pipes, etc aren’t subjected to constant intense sunlight) where some of the ceramics are, the rest are in the rocks around the pool and in front of the house.
Mshell – way to make a vacation memorable!!!!! Wow is all I can say
Lynn – have you ever thought of pickleball? I tried it once and it seems a lot like tennis. Everywhere you look, you see pickleball games and stuff. Plus...it’s more gentle on the joints. But glad that tennis is so popular by you
Allie – thank you for the day brightener. I love seeing those kids
Lorna – you sure are busy! Bet you get your steps in...lol
Went to ceramics tonight. I was using a green paint but the paint the ceramics studio has been recalled because it flakes. However, the lady who oversees the studio told one gal who was in charge that she shouldn't throw it out. I honestly can't be bothered with the constant flaking, so I just ordered a bottle myself. I know that the gal who is now in charge of the studio won't order it since we have it. I have asked her to order this one other paint, wonder if she will?

I went and walked for almost another hour at the wetlands. Only saw the one swan family but they were so cute.
Here are pictures from today's two walks. Kobe loved it.
16,000 steps today
Won't get that many steps tomorrow- just have zumba tomorrow night.
Have my yearly full body scan in the morning-checking for any skin cancer.
going to go to bed early- super tired tonight.Debbie

Evening ladies
Had to change my glucose monitor early will them tomorrow to tell them this one was defective. It kept sending low glucose alarms, and I used the old fashioned stick method and it was in normal range..so at least im hoping the alarm doesn't wake me up all night.
Lynn- no worries, was just wondering if you were anywhere close that maybe we could meet up is all..but its fine if you don't want to say where you are ..me as everyone here knows am an open book

Michele - I can't mow very easily directly under the power lines - they left stumps and rubble under most of it, tho I'm making my way though it as I can. A lot of it is just bare dirt with a few blackberries starting to poke their vines up among the small branches they left. There's still a line of trees on "my" side toward the house. But there's grass along the neighbor's fenceline that I can mow, and here's a shot of the powerline at the west end - pretty grassy. The guys were taking down the dead pine last week:
Oh, HOT NEWS! I almost mowed a fawn! Around noon today, I drove the mower back to the fenceline and was ready to drop the mower deck and engage the blades but saw something along there. A teensy fawn curled up in the tall grass!! Not much bigger than Rosie. So I went WAY around that area and mowed the rest of the fenceline and didn't disturb it.
When I finished mowing I put the mower away and walked back to take a peek. It was so still. I touched it - it was warm and I could tell it was alive. About an hour later a doe came into the yard here and I thought …..I bet that's Momma.
After supper, I carefully walked back and sure enough, it was gone from its spot. I'm sure Momma has taken it into the little thicket of fir I still have back there.
It was probably born out there within the last day or two. Some photos:
So, an eventful day. Got some sorely needed decluttering tackled. My stick vacuum arrived and I got a lot of vacuuming done. It's lightweight and easy to use.
And I touched a fawn. 😍

Lorna - My husband’s family would be in Houlton if they walked back far enough on their property. We shopped more there than in Woodstock at times. Small world.
Barbara - I didn’t get to see the Aurora Borealis last night because it was still light when I went to bed. I don’t know if I’ll be able to stay awake tonight either.
Michele - Porky Pig is so cute!
Lisa - I’m sorry to hear that Kim has to have surgery, but I’m happy to read that it’s benign and treatable.
She doesn’t need this on top of everything else she has to deal with.Michele - I love your ceramics. We can’t get any official characters here.
Friend requests on MFP, I think that we should be able to decline and block. I swear I decline the same three or four every day.
Barbie - We bought one of those incredible shrinking hoses, Rodger set it up yesterday for me. What a thing! So happy with this purchase.
I’ve been reading along but haven’t seemed to have much time for responding.
I finally put my tv stand together on Saturday, ordered another shelf that arrived Sunday and had it almost together when I realized it was a 5 shelf not 6. Since I needed it the same height as my original I took it all apart, managed to get it back in the box and ordered the 6 shelf. It arrived yesterday and I spent the evening putting my living room back in order.
Today is my brother’s 25th anniversary, although they have been together for 34 years. Tomorrow would have been my parents 59th. Mine and Rodger’s is next Friday, 38 years.Lisa say hi to Kim.

Tracey - I love the care and attention with which you curate your surroundings. That TV stand is nice. I'm still trying to decide what to put in my alcove in my bedroom. It has to be shallow in depth, so I can't use furniture we already have, 16" deep, or it would be difficult to get around the bed. I'm tempted just to have a floor length mirror, beside my chair, (still not fixed), but I could do with a bit more clothes' storage. A lot of my clothes are still in the other room. That's fine, because it's just next door. I've found a cupboard on Amazon, but it seems ridiculous to be buying extra furniture. It's only "12" deep though, which is what I want, and I could get a lot of tee-shirts in there! John has quite a lot of clothes in here, but I'm gradually making more space for mine. I need to find a spot for my winter duvet, to clear half a shelf.
John's sister is coming on Friday, before lunch, and staying until after lunch on Saturday. I've got to wash bedding and have a bit of a tidy and spiff-up in the upstairs bedroom and bathroom. Yesterday, we got an Uber, early, to Waitrose together, as it was wet and windy, and picked up brown potted shrimps to have for the first lunch. I think I'll do Peking Duck for dinner. John and I had a nice chat in the café, over my free coffee. (You have to bring a reusable cup) We are still being extra nice to each other.
Bea and John played chess at their house, and the orange and almond cake was a huge success. My son declared it his favourite cake. 😉
I will, at last, get my watch picked up today. If it's not pouring with rain!

I've managed to pack my winter duvet into a storage bag, to go under the upstairs bed, so I've now got room for some tee-shirts etc. I tend to go on inertia, so, if something has been there for ever, I naturally leave it there, as that is its 'home'. 🙄 I'm beginning to be able to change that tendency. We often don't see the things we've been looking at forever.

May was very successful for me, weight wise. I dropped close to 5 lbs.
Well done, @drkatiebug … me too!!
Do you find you get all squishy when you lose weight? It's funny!
So Machka, are you prescient? Tripped on a root on the pack walk yesterday and landed on my knees, forearms and forehead. Nothing broken, thank goodness, just bruises and scrapes. Whew!
It was here … you were talking about your guests and then you said, "Face-planted when I got home." I took that to mean you had a bad fall.
Now I am sorry you've had a fall! I hope you're OK!
@kevrit …. did you have a good time on your trip away?
You're doing well on your book reading!
I'm on Goodreads and trying to complete their challenges which has me reading books that are out of my comfort zone. I normally read mysteries, thrillers and suspense. But I figured I might try some other books now and then.
@cityjaneLondon … are you familiar with Peter James and his Detective Superintendent Roy Grace series set in Brighton and Hove? I've read the first one, but I think it is quite a lengthy series.

I am just happy to have made it through May! I am lighter than April. Still nicotine free in spite of life circumstances thrown my way.
Well done @kymarai
one of the things that I have found most helpful is simple – log everything that I eat BEFORE I eat it. Then I can make an informed decision about whether I really want to spend my calories to satisfy the temptation --- sometimes the answer is yes, sometimes no.
@glypnirsgirl … agreed! That's what I've done as well.
And because I eat basically the same thing every day, I just keep copying my day forward, and then tweak things as necessary.
My BMR is between 1423 and 1520 Calories/day depending on the model used (you can change the model in both of these calculators).
According to the article below …
What is a normal basal metabolic rate?
"There’s no such thing as “normal” when it comes to basal metabolic rates. Each person has a BMR unique to their body based on various factors. Scientists can only provide averages when it comes to BMR.
The average male has a BMR of around 1,696 calories (7,100 kilojoules) per day. The average female has a BMR of around 1,410 calories (5,900 kilojoules) per day. These estimates may change based on your race and/or ethnicity.
It’s important to remember that this energy (calorie) expenditure only involves the energy your body needs to maintain its basic functioning. These numbers don’t include the calories your body needs to turn food into energy and for physical activity."
Since early January, I have lost 10 kg = 22 lbs. Although I have adjusted my diet which has helped, I've also upped my exercise quite a bit, which I think has helped more.
I should probably measure myself … but I have gone from just into an Australian Size 20 (US size 14) to just into Australian Size 16 (US size 12). So … kind of from 20/18 to 18/16. 😁
I have also started doing more standing up and taking extra walking trips to get things done. Less sitting, more moving.

Kim reached out very quickly last night and she was able to get home yesterday. I'm hoping she got a good night's sleep, and I look forward to talking to her this morning once she's up and around. I have a feeling she will be busy today trying to accomplish as much as she can to prepare for some time off work.
Evie - So good to see you posting, as always… sorry about the toenails! Mine have been a bit of a struggle for 40 years, but at the moment are being reasonably quiet. Getting the edges cut off of mine didn't work either, just gave some relief for a bit. Hope the removal helps resolve the issues.
Lanette - So pleased you were able to touch the fawn. They are so amazing at that age… I've been decluttering my craft room as I clean it up, and was able to get rid of a bit. Such a good feeling! Oh - and the ladies look quite happy.
Tracey - Love the TV wall, it's all very intentional and very much you. I would have needed both tall shelves as well for the balance, and the TV stand's rustic look to the wood is perfect. I also like having my TV up higher than the stands allow, more comfortable when you're watching. Happy anniversary!
Elaine, Lynn and Lorna, you're all so welcome. As well as anyone else who's new that I may have missed! Share only as much as you're comfortable… We understand. The rest will work itself out as you get to know us. My favorite metaphor is still Rebecca's, that this thread is like a café, and as each person comes in, they stop at a table and join that conversation, then another and another. We're just glad you're here, sit down and stay awhile!
We do occasionally add a quick story of our own, like Machka's, but again, only if you're willing.
Lisa's Bio: (Good grief, it went longer than I expected. Is anyone surprised?) 😂😲🐈⬛😹
I'm 65 this year, and moved a lot, joining the military at 19, and then marrying into it, and have lived in more than 30 different homes in my adult years. Spent two three-year stints in the UK, first in Suffolk and then in Berkshire, in the 1980s and early '90s.
Raised in Texas, and gone back to live in it five times, I also lived in Colorado, Nevada, Montana, Illinois, and just before Arkansas, spent half a year in North Carolina helping our daughter out with the grands while our then-son-in-law was deployed to Syria. Will celebrate my 16th anniversary with my second husband and the love of my life this month. He brought two amazing people into my life who call me "Mom," and my grandbabies call me "Gramily" because I won't answer to anything else… 😂
For my weight journey - I had packed on some pounds to help make myself feel safe from my abusive father, but lost from 180+ down to 127 in order to join the Air Force, and then packed it back on the minute I got out. By 45, I weighed 303 pounds (at 5'2" tall), and had a gastric bypass in order to save my pre-diabetic life… In those 20 years, I've bounced back up over 200 twice. That's often a pattern for those who've had bariatric surgery.
The first time I gained was after I remarried and got happy and then once again, but about six years ago, I got ill. My weight kept dropping, and it took them two years to figure out that, along with anemia and 24/7 A-fib, I had Crohn's disease with ulcerative colitis. It then took another three years to find the right medication. The anemia was brought under control three years back, the A-fib will be for the rest of my life, and the Crohn's and UC began to finally move into remission last May. I am nearly to full remission, and the last colonoscopy showed the ulcers have healed over.
Unfortunately, along with feeling like I have my life back, I've also gained some weight back. I retired early from work, at 60 years old, and at my worst, when I was terribly ill, I got down to 137, and this morning I'm at 164. I can't regret gaining the weight, it means my body is using the nutrition I put in it the way it's supposed to. Not terribly happy with how much, though - I just had to move back into medium size pants again, after being in smalls for a few years. It's annoying, but can be controlled, and I'm working on that part.
The last six years or so that I worked, I wrote grants. Before that, I worked managing proposal writers for Cisco Systems, and in and out of working for them, I was also managing editor for three different newspapers in rural central and West Texas, as well as writing proposals for a staffing company in Dallas and writing the employee news for Lockheed Martin there.
I do write for pleasure as well, though not much lately - I've got three books on Amazon (not the only writer in this group by any means) one murder mystery and two compilations of my opinion columns from the newspapers, and now that I'm truly enjoying my retirement, I am indulging in every craft and artistry under the sun. For the first four months of the year, I posted on YouTube weekly, mostly just general life stuff, and I sew, crochet, paint, and at the moment am trying out ways to combine all those things in unique ways.
Yeah, everybody knew that wasn't going to be short, sorry. I will say that I'm happier right this minute than I have been in six years. It is so nice to have my energy levels back and be able to accomplish things again.
And… off to my doings.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR8
