A gentle walker....

I put this under motivation rarther than Fitness as the aim is to encourage people like myself who really struggle with fitness goals, gyms, and high impact exercise.

I walk, and occasionally I swim. OK, I walk occasionally. And I'd like to increase that, so I came here to see if anyone would like to join in on a Hey, let's walk (sometimes) vibe and mutual cheerleading.

Every Saturday I do a 5k. Either with the Parkrun group (because you can walk at a parkrun meet, and its very social and supportive), or by myself starting at 6 or 7am. I try and do a few thousand steps on occasional days too.

So if you'd like to join me on a walk diary come along. Otherwise I shall happily simply talk about my own walks 😊

We make plans and God laughs, right?

I find—for exercise—my habit is all that matters. Out the door for a minimum of X, depending on what it is. A mile if I'm in running condition (I'm not and haven't been for a couple years). 10 minutes for walking, 15 minutes for a hike with the dogs. 99% of the time, I will maximize the effort, not stop at the minimum. For me, it's just about getting going. And motivation doesn't do it. Just the habit and the promise I can stop if it doesn't feel good.

Spoiler: It always feels good if I take the time to build up slowly and stay kind to myself. No "feel the burn" here!

I hope you feel better soon and find a way that works for you.

I’ve been using my IPhone timer set to 25 minute walk out with my dog, then 15 return. Sometimes we walk to the cafe and have a low fat milk ice coffee no sugar on the patio before setting the timer for the 15 min back. I find varying the route mixing in hills and flats and a new pair of pink sneakers have all been helpful to sticking to my goal - 2 30 minute walks a day for 6,000- 7,000 steps a day by Thanksgiving

Thats a clever and nicely simple plan! Pink shoes - always a bonus :)

Today my thighs are really not happy and my fet ache, so maybe I pushed a tad too hard yesterday….. or maybe I need new shoes. Pink ones for sure.
