Special K diet

I don't think you could possibly get all your micro nutrients in having cereal two meals a day. You'll be tired and hungry. This is not sustainable at all.0

It's a gimmick designed to get you to buy more Special K products. Don't fall prey. There might as well be a Hot Pocket diet or a Twinkie diet (Oh wait there IS a Twinkie diet...)
You'll lose more weight and spend less money if you just eat normal food. Special K is crazy high in sugar, and all that sugar will just make you more and more hungry.0 -
Why limit yourself to a processed food for two of your meals? (plus a little milk and some fruit) Eat a wider variety of healthy foods...the way you'd plan to eat afterwards anyway. By the end of a week you probably won't want to eat Special K ever again!0

Tried doing it for a few days, it was awful, I was starving all the time. I don't recommend any kind of fad dieting like Special K. Plus, not enough protein!
I agree with this . Plus it sent my blood sugars sky high !!!0 -
I'm not going to lie: I did it in college once and it worked for my purposes. I've always tended to eat pretty healthily all year and keep at a steady weight until the holidays, when I go nuts (except last year when I put myself on a leash). Without fail, I would put on a few pounds after Christmas and not lose them, but not gain any weight throughout the year. I did the Special K thing and I did lose the weight, and kept it off when I went off it because of my normal good eating habits.
Is it sustainable? Absolutely not. It would be too expensive and get crazy boring. But if you need to lose a couple of pounds from a brief period of going nuts, it's a viable option for reducing your calories. And I can't get enough of the Vanilla Almond cereal, it's really flippin' good.0 -
In theory you could do this with Twinkies too. Two cakes are 270 calories. Times two for breakfast and lunch would put you at 540. That leaves plenty of room for a sensible dinner and maybe even a dessert of some sort, maybe Special K (just kidding, have another Twinkie).0

I like their cereals and I might eat their bars as a snack but its not my main diet. I view it like eating a Lean Cuisine meal during my lunch break at work when if there are no leftovers to take for lunch instead. For example I just wanted something quick for breakfast so I grabbed their sausage sammie for breakfast. Its alright but I don't see myself eating those everyday for the next few months. I like real food0

All those products have way to much sugar and processed ingrediants! Skip the diet and just eat healthy0

30g of special K for each serving0

I love Special K. I have a bowl (31g) weighed with 80z of milk for bfest right before gym. I love that stuff but I also love lucky charms. Yea and I'm losing weight big wooop. The key here is that I weigh my cereal in grams.0

Hi all,
Thank you for your comments it really helps me focus and understand what the hell I am doing! (i have no clue apart from trying) I take all your comments on board and perhaps try it for 2 weeks as recommended and see how i go. (tesco had it on offer - Half price so i have 2 weeks supply I need to munch through
Once again thank you! its very much appreciated, 2 weeks time we shall see - i enjoy eating it and it does keep me full until dinner time but i read how high the sugars are - Shocking!!! it does worry me slightly that it might make me fatter not thinner! :sad:0 -
I always got the impression it was for someone who wanted to drop a quick 5 pounds or wanted to fit into a dress or something, but wasn't for massive and long term weight loss.
^^Agreed!0 -

You won't gain weight if you stay in a caloric deficit. You might be hungry though.
One of my co-workers was doing the Special K diet. We'd frequently be in the break room at the same time eating lunch. She with her 90 calories Special K bar and me with my chicken linguini and vegetables for under 400 calories. i felt bad for her.0 -
The Special K diet is based on a calorie deficit, so why not just eat foods besides cereal at a deficit and lose weight that way?
I actually like Special K bars because they're like delicious candy bars with cereal, but they're not exactly nutritious.0 -

Why even bother going to the break room for a bar? Lol.....0 -
I wouldn't recommend it. The only way to lose weight, be healthy and keep the weight off is to eat plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats, unprocessed foods, drink plenty of water and exercise as much as your schedule allows. I don't see how a cereal alone (even if you are eating a full meal at dinner) is going to help you get healthier and lose weight in the long run. Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts to losing weight and keeping fit forever.
..Oh and I got fat as a result of doing the complete opposite of the above but I am determined to never be like that again. Good Luck to you! Hope all goes well. :flowerforyou:0 -
I, too, read your profile after reading this discussion. It says you are a 16/18 size right now but want to be a 12/14. I started eating healthier and following a 1200 calorie/day plan at the end of May this year. I've been at this for about 15 weeks and have lost 29 lbs and gone from a size 10/12 to a size 4/6. I didn't use any gimmicky diets or supplements. Just restricting portions of foods I've always eaten and spending about 30 minutes doing a workout each day.
If you love Special K, go ahead and have it for breakfast each day (I eat Cheerios every morning), but then eat something with more nutrients for lunch and supper. Log your food choices and portions with MFP every day. If you start eating at a calorie deficit now, you'll achieve your desired clothing size way before Christmas and will probably drop another size or two by then! Good luck to you )0
