Barbie - I just realized I don't have an analog thermometer here in the house. Both of mine are digital. Getting one that shows both F and C is a great idea. For those of you whose culture records temperature in Celsius, do you ever refer to a day being 22.2 degrees? Or just round it up or down to the nearest whole number? I haven't been paying attention but don't recall seeing decimals.
Heather - so glad you were able to make the appointment. Hopefully an X-Ray will give a clear indication of what's going on. Glad your son is out of his boot and can resume driving.
Margaret - I agree, we have to be careful with our comments on social media. I never announced that my DH passed on social media. Those who needed to know were notified right away. I still sometimes post comments on FB that make it seem like he's still here, lol.
Rebecca - I enjoyed seeing the photos of Lee and the kids on FB. YOU, being spouse and mom of kids in the armed services, served too!
Here's the first photo I received of my DH who was in Vietnam, 1969. We were just pen pals back then, didn't meet in person until several years later. Courted via snail mail.😍

I always have boxed mac and cheese, tuna, shelf stable milk, butter, canned veggies and grated cheese on hand so made that often. Not as much now that son has moved out- That was one of the first things he learned to cook for himself. Usually just plain mac and cheese, extra cheese and some garlic powder.
I usually grated Colby but use what ever I have on hand. I get the big 2lb bags when Safeway has them on sale for $5.99Tonight's dinner is already cooking- no class or daycare kid on Tuesday so like to cook extra that day unless dh has plans for us.
Gumbo with sausage, chicken and shrimp with lots of okra and mustard greens. First time cooking the greens but got them for .50 and had thick cut bacon so both are simmering now. I will make some rice later this afternoon.
Going to go get taco's for lunch- $1 each on Tuesdays. It is either 69 or 73 here now- My phone says 69 but Alexa says it is 73.
Have a tank top on but a little cool- will put a light jacket on when we go out.Debbie

A big salute to our veterans here. 💜 Thank you for your service and for our freedom.
Lanette: My DH was in Vietnam (USAF) a couple years before yours. Didn't realize you were penpals before meeting. How sweet.
Lisa: I think you asked a few days ago if any of us were travelling soon. Yes. I'm heading to Morocco on 11/18. One stop in Montreal before connecting to Casablanca. I'm holding good thoughts and appreciate any and all good vibes and prayers you ladies can spare. I have always been a very lucky traveller, so hoping by the time next week rolls around, the airport chaos will have quieted down.
Heather: Glad you're getting xrays on your knee. Mine were negative, so I'm continuing the soft tissue injury treatment protocols: heat, PT, topical pain reliever and compression sleeve if I feel I need it. Today I did the PT exercises and it was a achy, but overall, it's better every week.
Hope those of you in the path of storms stay safe. No snow here. It's about 65 F = 18.33 C. The mountain towns west of me are slowing opening up ski resorts.
I'm working in the Press Box of the hockey game tonight. I love this post because I get to schmooze with the media guys and gals. Some are mature aged codgers in suits banging out articles for traditional sports channels and papers. Then, there are the "social" staffers who look like they got out of high school yesterday and have the fastest phone typing fingers I have ever seen. Growing up, I wanted to be a sports journalist, but it wasn't an option for women. Just being around them now is fun, though.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Well this looks like a delightful little thread in the MFP land. I will try to join in. I am always looking for a few friends …so many of the threads are not conversational.
I found your thread thru a Sciatica search. I think someone on this thread has/had is suffering from it. I am on my 8th week (or 9th). Had a nerve block last week tuesday, and I am feeling SOOO good. Praying and believing that God has touched the hands of those who work on me and is healing me day by day. not hoping but Believing in the healing of God.
The sciatica has made my exercise addiction go from 18000 steps a day to 9000. my daily active burn calories plummet from 800 to 250-350. Oh, i know they aren't real accurate numbers but…. needless to say I am working HARD on food. LOW inflamatory foods. High nutrients. and I guess spending time on my back laying down on my wedge arch back support. PT starts in a couple days.

From a million years ago, another life - in uniform in basic training. In the photo booth, of course, the first two anyway.
Just completely impossible to believe that this was more than 40 years ago.
Funny what you remember.
I thought I was a complete bada$$.
Pretty sure I wasn't, though.

Lisa - you definitely gave the impression of being a bada$$. Isn't it fun looking at these photos? Thank you for your service!
And thanks to all of you veterans and the veterans in your families. Like I told Rebecca, you all served in some capacity. Grateful for all of you. 😉

Hello Ladies,
I had a lovely week without a student. I got to love the babies/toddlers after I heard that one of them coded and had to spend a couple of nights in the PICU. I had to love on him, and he put his hand on my face and smiled. The other nights, he was so tired that he was asleep before I went to work and slept all night. The one we call "Angry Bird" was up and angry. I managed to calm him down and get him to sleep. Then the one that they say is mean is a teddy bear. He has Down syndrome, and I love those babies because they are so loving. I got him smiling, and I hugged and loved on him, and he was hungry for love. His parents decided that he was too much for them, so they are not going to learn how to care for him. So he will also go to the facility, as will the others. We had an episode where, after I gave a bedside report, he twisted around so much that he pulled his trach out. So we all worked together to get it back in. The last two nights, I let him soak in the tub, and he slept so well afterward. He was good. I parked my chair right in front of the door to make sure he was fine. Yesterday morning, I had to weigh and measure him, and he tooted so hard he shot poo at me. I screamed, and then everyone laughed. I also held and loved our new fluffy baby, and he took it all in. He stopped crying and went to sleep in my arms.
Heather, I am going to try to cut down my carbs as well. I have been suffering from Acid Reflux and constipation. Then I have to take Milk of Magnesia. I am currently on the highest dose of Pepcid and Prevacid. I made breakfast tacos with a folded egg as the shell and the meat and spinach with cheese as the filling. It was good. And feeling. We will see.
Michelle, how about meat and veggies on a skewer, served with rice for everyone? Italian chicken was my go-to dish. In the crockpot, add raw chicken, one jar of your favorite sauce, and one packet of Lipton Onion Soup Mix. Cook on low for 8 hours or High for 4 hours. Serve over rice or pasta. I served it with garlic bread.
Tracey, as far as I am concerned, the way they treated your MIL, they can squat in jail. How will you all clear her name for all those loans that your SIL got in your MIL's name? Can a report be filed so they cannot obtain any more squatter's rights? For all they know, your MIL was away on holiday and asked her SIL to pick up some supplies because she is staying longer. My heart breaks for your MIL, DH, and you. I am so sorry. Give them extra hugs, and give yourself a hug from me. I genuinely believe that you could all benefit from some therapy. This is hard on Roger as well as your MIL. When they hurt, you hurt. I also believe that attending ceramics classes will be therapeutic. Hey, speaking of crafts, maybe Michaela can make a bottle like Heather's grands. Kaitlyn and Brody are excellent, too. I do pray that they get pregnant one day.
Lanette, you are a sweet person. If someone were knocking on my door at night, they would be knocking until their arms fall off. If I am not expecting you, I won't answer the door. Someone was banging on my door while DH was out of town at 4:00 am. Rose went bananas. I didn't even think about going to the door. I had my phone ready to call the police. The man left, and all was well. A month later, he came back banging on my door. DH was going to answer it. I told him not to do it. I explained that Next door, they said someone did this to a neighbor and beat them up and stole jewelry and money.
Lanette, your DH was mighty fine.
Lisa, you are pretty busy for someone who is retired; in fact, you all are busy bees. I will always see hummingbirds differently as well. I love the tomatoes. I didn't get any this year. The ones I got that year were a surprise because I hadn't planted any of them.
Kim, I hope all is well with you.
Rory, you look radiant.
Barbie, Annie is starting to mature. I am so glad you are dancing again.
Carol, it is cold in Mississippi as well. It was snowing in Chicago, so DH had to drive slowly all the way to O'Hare in it ( He is flying out to Maine and Massachusetts for work.) Stay warm and safe, Carol—Snuggle with a good book.
Stingray, what would you like us to call you? I was born and raised in Southern California. Welcome to our tribe.
I am going to see if I have a picture of my dad when he was in the army. Margaret, it was so lovely to see a pic of a centurion.
Carla, can you DM me your address?
Pip, take it one year at a time to make a decision. You may want to run a full marathon at 75, because you can.
Beth, I hope all is well with you.
Rita, Hugs.
Flea, I bet it is fun teaching and getting the days off when your kids did.
Melanie, you guys are so funny. The squirrels do the same dance for my dog, Rose. Rose had a friend over without my permission. It was a goldendoodle. I feel bad for him because he is dirty and matted. It looks painful. He wanted to come in, but he would have to have a bath. I would keep him, too. Goldendoodles and any other dog should not be mistreated like that. Your Stormie sounds like a character.
Rebecca, excellent presentation on your meal. It looks like a restaurant plate.
Okie, I hope you are done with that project for your holiday decor. Some decorate right after Halloween.
Barbara, I hope all is well with you. How is Trumble now?
Allie, I love the pixie cut. It is interesting to see how medications can affect hair growth. Getting older does it too. S Miles and S Delia are so cute and busy.
Machka, I can see clearly out of those windows. You are really getting through your projects.
DH is doing exceptionally well in his job. The amusing thing is that King Coil noticed he had taken the position. They asked if he would work for them in January if they offered a better package, and he told them that he was flattered, but he is happy where he is. Now I need to work on my Illinois license so I can move. So far, I don't see anything I like. I missed out on the position I wanted because I wasn't yet licensed. So we will see. I do love my new temporary position here in Mississippi, but it doesn't start until January 4, 2026. We currently have only one baby at the facility, and he is extremely spoiled. So, if the others can stop having emergencies, then they can join the other one in 30 days. Now that the government shutdown is coming to an end. Have a great night, everyone.

I am finished with the holiday/general party storage. I will try to remember to get a picture of it tomorrow. Now I am going to start on my husband‘s shelves in the shop. I started on them once before, got distracted, and never went back to them. I need to finish them while he is away on business so he doesn’t get in the way.

Very pleased with my dinner tonight. I threw the lentil patties together yesterday morning before work. All kinds of yummy things in them. Air fried it tonight. A twice baked potato which I split with hubby. Plant based cheese (read: vegan junk food) and plain soy yogurt. Balsamic vinaigrette rubbed kale with some brussel sprouts, asparagus, and freshly roasted chickpeas.
I could eat those chickpeas all night long. I soaked the beans while I was at work, then cooked them in a pot of water with garlic and smoked paprika. Drained them then tossed them in oat flour, cumin, and garlic powder. And roasted at 425 for 45 minutes. They are absolutely the best, and so good for me.
Much love to all.
Thanks to our vets and those who love and support them.

Lanette - I think if your neighbour felt that he should continue to listen to his gut.
My MIL did not want her daughter moving back in with them. My FIL couldn’t seem to ever say no to her though. His BFF told me that he didn’t want it either, but wondered how he could turn her away. The friend also thinks that when FIL took sick the reason he wouldn’t go to a doctor was because he just wanted to leave it all.I struggle not being angry at a dead man for the state he left his wife in.
All we can do is love and protect her for the precious time we get.
She is worried about me having to care for her, she did a lot of care giving for 70 years and knows the work and toll it takes on a person.
I know if we get too tired and need a break Kaitlyn and Brodey will step in to help.Opening the door to strangers. In Dec 1990 I was expecting Kaitlyn. Lauryn was not quite 2 and Rodger drove truck.
We were renting a house that had been rented by college students the previous years.
My Godchildren and parents were home for Christmas from MB. The first night there was a knock at 4am, it was my friend dropping my Godson off because she needed to take my Goddaughter to the hospital. The next night at 2am, I thought nothing of it when I went downstairs in just my nightshirt and opened the door to a drunk college student arguing with me that this was where he lived. When I convinced him he didn’t he wanted to come in and call a cab, I wouldn’t let him, but my cousin owned the cab company so I called and explained the situation and they came and got him right away. I’ve always been so careful after that experience. The guy was a belligerent drunk. The weather today was beautiful here, up to 11c. I put some Christmas decorations out, but it wore me out so I am not finished.
I don’t know why I’m so tired.Heather - I hope you get good news about your knee.
Not much happened today. Granddaughter finally called again, of course she was trying to guilt her grandmother about how little they have in the house.I don’t know what they expect her to do.
Off to bed, I have to work tomorrow and am still exhausted and played out.

Good for you for starting the running program. I get out and run (slow jog) now and then. I keep wanting to do more, but it doesn't call to me as much as cycling does.

I have to have a house with a lot of windows and light for my mental well-being. Just a note … don't wait too long for hearing aids. Your brain will have less loss to adapt too when you do get the aids if you go earlier as opposed to later. Speaking from experience.
Beth — me too. One of the things that was quite high on my list when we were looking for a place to purchase last year was windows … with a view.
We looked at one place (the first one we saw), and the living room had no windows!! The kitchen had been added to the back, so it would have had windows on the wall that used to be there, but instead it got light from the window over the sink in the kitchen. I was mentally remodelling the place as soon as I walked in!!
Regarding the hearing aids, my audiologist tells me I am in the awkward phase where it is too soon to get hearing aids because they won't help me yet, but I will have to deal with hearing loss for a while. I am supposed to get checked annually awaiting the moment when they tell me I'm ready.
I do wonder sometimes… but I was listening to a video of a respected psychologist talking about the difference between age-related changes in speech and memory—many of which can be improved by retraining your brain—and dementia. He noted that the person with actual dementia is the best today that they will ever be again, because it simply gets worse, not better. Learning new things is still possible for me, and I still enjoy it.
I will say I find some things quite frustrating, like the "tip of the tongue" syndrome, and Corey finding that I'd put my socks in his dresser drawer and so on. Other changes - I used to be unable to listen to music while I was working, but I find that music now actually makes it easier for me to concentrate on many of the things I'm trying to accomplish.
Lisa — Yes, the person with dementia is the best today that they will ever be again (sadly).
However, prior to developing dementia or prior to ending up with brain injury in an accident, the amount of education, learning, brain usage and development etc. throughout life can make a difference. In general - the more education, learning, brain usage and development etc. throughout life, the better.
And the really strong neural pathways are often the ones that remain with a person throughout any sort of brain damage (dementia, stroke, accident, etc.). That's why someone with dementia will remember something from childhood, or a song from way back when. Those neural pathways are well developed.
So keep developing your favourite neural pathways. You may keep them till the end!
I also get distracted and end up leaving things in odd places. I think we all do. 😁

Had an interesting situation last night:
It was around 6 pm, pitch black outside. My private road is totally dark, no street lights. A few neighbors keep their porch lights on. I don't.
I was sitting in the recliner doing a little reading before heading to the bedroom to watch a video.
I heard a little tap at the door. Rosie went bonkers of course. I thought it might be Roger or Mrs. Roger since they know I sometimes turn my phone off and don't respond to messenger after supper. I turned on the porch light and saw 3 young men standing there. I could see through the window next to the door that they had name badges representing a religious organization.
I whipped the door open …
Lanette! I had a small heart attack when I read that you opened the door!!
I would have checked my phone first to see if anyone I knew messaged to say they were coming over and given that no one did, would not have opened the door. If it weren't already, I would have hastily locked it.
Melanie — I was raised on Alberta Beef (and some Saskatchewan beef). My parents used to buy a half a cow's worth of meat from farmers which would go into my mother's immense freezer and feed us for the rest of the year. I remember diagrams of cows indicating where various cuts of meat came from.
In my early 20s, I moved to Manitoba and became a semi-vegetarian. 😁 Mostly vegetarian with just a bit of chicken or fish, or very small quantities of ground beef.
I remember visiting my parents in Red Deer and my father took us out to dinner at a steakhouse. I horrified him by ordering chicken!! 😀
I have borderline Hemochromatosis - right on the high edge of normal - and that was when I was having 2 periods a month. Red meet isn't the best choice for me - I definitely don't need the iron. And I get indigestion when I eat beef.
Then recently, I developed chronic kidney disease, so I've reduced my protein consumption even more.
I'm not a good Albertan.

What's the weather like in your area
? By the way, ladies, I really enjoy reading our weather reports and temperatures. I need to get better at converting F to C. 😁 Thankful for the internet so I don't have to do the 9/5 thing, though it would probably be good for my brain.
I just realized I don't have an analog thermometer here in the house.
This is a simple conversion table which I make simpler in my mind when I might have to do general conversions:
0C ~ 30F
5C ~ 40F
10C ~ 50F
15C ~ 60F
20C ~ 70F
25C ~ 75F
30C ~ 85F(All very approximate, of course).
So when one of you says it is 70F, in my head that's approx. 20C. (It's actually 21.1C but close enough for me to have an idea what you're talking about.)
What's the weather like here?
We're having a throwback to winter. 😕 Yesterday we had snow down to 400 metres and 3 hailstorms came through.
This image is from Pulse Tasmania news:
Today the wind started picking up and we've got a "Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS" for tomorrow … again. "DAMAGING WINDS averaging 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 110 km/h are likely during Thursday morning" … again.
Currently it is already blowing a gale, but not as much as it will be in a few hours.
Tomorrow's maximum should be 15C with a "feels like" temperature of 8C … that should happen at 8 am. Then the temperature will likely drop from that point. Another cold day.
As for decimal points - yep, they are used. This is the temperature right now.

Morning, my dearlings,
Sherry in TN ( @SherryReuter) - Welcome! Please do drop into whatever conversation where you feel comfortable! We talk about most things, as we're all aware that health isn't just about the number on the scale or how many minutes you've made exercising, it's about our entire lives. We do avoid discussion of politics and religion, though, and that keeps this a safe place for everyone. We're glad you're here; one more voice is always welcome! I think more than one of us has had some dealings with sciatica. It sounds painful.
@Stingray101 - Welcome! Glad you're here, hope you can find us again. As I said to Sherry, please do drop into whatever conversation where you feel comfortable! If you'll sign your posts with the name you want to be called and what part of the country you're posting from, we'll get to know you quickly!
Warmest regards,
Lisa in AR3 -
Thanks for the welcome.
Accomplishments: I slept all night last night! 11p - 5am. And woke up without pain. This is a huge step forward in my sciatica healing. Right now I am trying my 10mins of sitting in an office chair, using my back brace (has metal supports in it). The right leg is a little tingly…. so, hmmm….. wasn't expecting that. I will do a workout later this morning or early afternoon - likely 15mins plus my PT moves. Tomorrow I see PT and am excited for that.
@Machka9 UGH— that is exactly why I moved to tennessee, to get rid of the harsh winters. I lived in Northwest Iowa for the first 49years of my life. The cold winters, the wind…the wind…. ugh. Later this week we will be back in the lower 70's. Today I think we are still around 55 degrees.
Well, that's my 10mins of sitting.
I do workout - focusing on nutrients at the moment - I use chatGPT a LOT…. Do any of you use ChatGPT?Talk to ya later,

Mo - Thanks, darlin'. I WAS just a baby, not yet able to make a single good choice, just the choice that sounded good at that moment. Like smoking. More on that (might trigger some):
It took me another 35 years to finally get rid of the smoking habit that I'd picked up at 16. The neuro-pods have got it right - the part of our brains where good judgment is located doesn't fully develop until at least 25.
Just my opinion, of course, but there are a LOT of things we should prohibit until at least that old, like smoking, drinking, getting married and having children. Within a year after that picture, I was still in the military, living on the other side of the world, married, and honestly, still not very bright! 👀🤷🏻♀️😂
Here's what's weird - even 45 years later, when I looked at the picture, I could smell the just lit cigarette and feel the sensation of pulling it into my lungs, how it felt, how it tasted. In my memory, it was lovely.
This is from the same woman, who when I walk in Walmart or out, I get nauseated from the smell of smokers who smoked there, even it was hours before.
Being an adult is just stupid sometimes, and being able to keep two completely conflicting thoughts inside our head at the same time is one of the reasons! In my humble opinion, of course.
Anyway… when I quit, Corey quit. Best decision both of us could have made. Vaping helped us both be done with it. Besides the health benefits, in my calculation, we're saving over $10,000 a year just not smoking.
We were already vaping by the time we moved here in early 2018, and it helped us both ease off of cigarettes. I had already tried literally dozens of ways to stop smoking, none were successful. I haven't vaped in more than six years, and Corey quit a bit over a year after I did. If you're reading this, Kylia, much respect, darlin'. I think about you a lot.
Sherry in TN - I think we cross-posted - Glad you're doing well with the nerve block, hope PT helps you leap forward, so to speak. It was awesome for my recent issues with my rotator cuff.
Not a lot going on at my house - just got my "good morning" call from Corey, and now it's time to get on with my day. Nearly finished with one cardigan, just have to get the pockets finished. Debating on a placket on the front and buttons. I don't put buttons on all of them.
Night before last I had a dream that showed me what I want to do for my daughter's quilt, and I was able to hold onto it long enough to sketch it out on paper. I want to at least begin on that, if nothing else but getting a template built for some of the pieces I want to create.
The designer who lives at the back of my brain was also getting overtime, apparently, because I came up with a possible way to build a soft-sided but sturdy box-type container by braiding heavy yarn and using some of the iron-on interfacing I have. I didn't even know I was trying to figure that out! 🤷🏻♀️👀😂😍 Need to go get that sketched out, too.
Weather's turning warm again today here, s'posed to be up in the 70s (20-25 C) every day for the next few weeks. Hope it gets nice where y'all are.
Later, my dears,
