There are things that people have to battle such as hypothyroidism and other medical problems. Until you are perfect, you can't judge someone else's decisions.
If someone comes here specifically to ASK about the decisions that they're making.. then we're wrong for telling them why what they're doing isn't working? I fail to see the logic behind your argument.

Your post was very helpful and not judging. I appreciate your transparency. I too am using it to support my efforts. I still workout 5-6 times a week, eat right. The pill is not magical, you still have to eat healthy & exercise. I'm not sure the weight loss journey is as universal as everyone thinks. It is not simply eat less workout more. Some of us still struggle with dropping weight. It's like our bodies fight our efforts in order to maintain equilibrium. This is discouraging and frustrating. I'm hoping for all of us committed to living healthy. Our paths may be different but we are aiming for the same goal.

Meh. Weak people take amphetamines to lose weight.
As soon as you stop, you'll be back on the eating band wagon.
When you really decide what you want to be, you'll get there.

Do you feel better about yourself calling a total stranger, who is mentally
Ill and struggling with body issues, weak? Couldn't you have just
    Kept that thought to yourself?

Hey the person taking weight loss drugs still has to eat at a calorie deficit. They are still doing the work and should be used along with exercise.

the person should take advantage of the tool (the meds) so that it is a temporary tool so that they can get ahold of their eating and eventually not depend on it, by then the weight will have come off and then they can get rid of the pill, so that when they do, they will have learned how to eat so that the weight will not come back on.

PERSONALLY, i love Phentermine & it helped me lose 50 pounds!

this coming from someone who's food diary consists of chips, cookies and sprite.

How old are you, 12? Yes, taking a dangerous drug to lose weight is bad and so is encouraging said behavior, but don't bring someone's food diary into it in an attempt to discredit them. That makes you look like a catty middle schooler.

when a person comes on totting this dangerous drug by saying i lost 50lbs yet the ONLY things they are eating are chips, cookies and sprite i do believe it is important to point this out. for all we know there could be someone on here thinking of taking who spots that individual's comment and decides BASED ON IT that it is the right thing for them to do. call me 12 call me catty but i do feel it is important information. whether you agree or disagree with me is not my concern. thank you very much.

Holy crap.. OP... you're ... ju...

you're just doing it ALL wrong.

    look.. here..

So you're new here. These tips might help:

    1. don't trust the initial setup that MFP provides. If you put in the wrong/inaccurate information, it'll tell you to eat an amount that may not be applicable.
    2. Make sure you eat enough.
    3. Figure out what works for you and is sustainable/healthy/long term.
    4. avoid fads. don't buy in to any "Hey, try the twinkie and vodka diet"
    5. Don't cut out anything now that you don't plan on literally giving up forever.
    6. GET A FOOD SCALE. Weigh everything. No, seriously.
    7. Get an HRM with a chest strap. You'll at least have a better idea of what you're burning. It'll be more accurate than the generic info in the exercise database.. and even more than the cardio machines. This is great for steady state cardio (run/walk/etc)
    8. Don't go balls out. You'll burn out. I see 300 lb people show up here, instantly start working out and cutting their intake SEVERELY... trying to cut out all of their carbs at once.. whatever. Take it slow. Figure out how much you need to eat FIRST in order to lose.. then incorporate exercise.
    9. Don't cardio yourself to death.
    10. Take the information on the forums with a grain of salt. A lot of people that have been here for a while.. and have been successful, may seem jaded. They give out GREAT advice day after day, only to be met with people that refuse to listen.
    11. Eat real food. Not diet food. Not "low fat, sugar free, now without X." It's easier to get/find/count.
    12. don't set time restrictions.
    13. measure yourself weekly. Don't just weigh. Measure and take pictures.
    14 BE PATIENT.
    15. Avoid forum topics that have "1200" in the title. It's just full of butthurt. Lots of it.
    16. This isn't a game, it's about changing your lifestyle. Do that.

    pretty much that.

...and don't fall into the "1200 calorie" vertigo of suck because of:

the typical MFP users does this:
    1. I wanna lose weight, let's try MFP.
    2. OH! Wow, it tells me I can lose 2 lbs a WEEK? AWESOME!
    3. I just sit at a desk when I'm not working out, I guess I'm sedentary.
    4. MFP tells them 1200 calories, and they don't even eat that.. then they work out on top of it.. creating an even bigger deficit.
    5. Lose a lot, fast, brag about 1200 calorie success.
    6. Come back in a few months trying to figure out why they're dizzy, tired, not losing weight.
    7. Get on the forums, ask why they aren't losing.
    8. Get two responses (I eat 1200 and lose) (I eat 2200 and lose)
    9. Argument ensues about who is right.

Now. That being said. These threads happen hundreds of times per day. Most times, and I mean really.. seriously.. 95% of the time.. people get the 1200 number because they don't put the right information in when they set up the account. There are a great number of people that are trying to help. I'm one of 'em.

I'm a hardcore advocate of actually finding out what works for the individual.. by means of other calculators, averages, time, practice, and patience.

Blanket prescriptions of 1200 calories "because it worked for me" is more harmful to the generic new user than the "figure out what you need to eat." Unfortunately, one is a LOT easier to type.

Find out what you need: http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/
Take the tips, links, and info above and make the cart more manageable to stay on.

    Stop the pills.

My doctor suggested the phentermine and said I was overweight for my height. I weighed 167 and am 5 foot 7. I got to a point where I was eating all the time, even just because I was bored, then eventually I got used to it and was hungry all the time, even after eating a meal. The phentermine has curbed my appetite. I guess I will force myself to eat more. I am eating very healthy. I am not excercising because I have an issue with energy. I had this problem for a couple of years. My doctors don't know what is wrong, I am low on iron, so I take a supplement, and I've tried vitamins. I barely have enough energy to do normal everyday things without getting exhausted.

    Indications and Usage for Phentermine
Phentermine hydrochloride tablets are indicated as a short-term (a few weeks) adjunct in a regimen of weight reduction based on exercise, behavioral modification and caloric restriction in the management of exogenous obesity for patients with an initial body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m2, or ≥ 27 kg/m2 in the presence of other risk factors (e.g., controlled hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia).

5'7" and 167 (which is EXACTLY where I am right now) is a BMI of 26.2. Your doctor must be off of his rocker. Phentermine is meant for people who are clinically obese or significantly overweight with other issues.

I'm not offering medical advice, because I am not licensed to do so. I will offer you my personal experience: I took phentermine and basically starved myself for several months. I fell down a lot and was dizzy all the time. I did lose a lot of weight, but it all came right back because i hadn't learned how to eat properly.

There is tons of good advice on this site. Seek it out. Run the marathon of learning how to live a healthy life. Take pride in your accomplishments. Love yourself.

I am so sad to read these responses. People come here for help. I am in the same situation and I had no energy and tons of weight gain. I am 5'3 and was 130 pounds most of my life until the last 3 years I am up to 180. I have tried loosing since I got up to 140 and kept trying yet kept gaining. My doctor and I worked on my thyroid for awhile and got it where I have a bit more energy. But before I couldn't stay awake no long take a walk. Then I have been working out with trainer and using a fitness program similar to weight watchers and nothing. No scale movement and no one knows why. You are eating right and working out. So my doctor prescribed me the same thing. I didn't ask for any we were only discussing why I can't lose weight no matter what I have done. I feel fine on it but still haven't lost a single pound after a month. So I know how you feel and how frustrating it is for people to judge you and say you could do this or that. I'm sorry, people can really suck!!! Each person is so different and our bodies are so different it's hard to say. Keep trying to find out your issue. Listen to those you trust, for me it's not some random person on the internet who thinks they know you best. For me it's my doctor who I have worked with and knows everything about me.

    You need a new doctor.

THIS-I would have serious concerns about any doctor that would prescribe drugs for what is a relatively small amount of weight gain (not trying to negate what it means to you OP).

You're barely in the "overweight" range for BMI. I'm concerned your doctor prescribed something so drastic for you. Can you ask him/her why they prescribed it and what they expect it to do for you?
