Exercise causes fat to turn into muscle

    Often combined with

    Muscle weighs more than fat

Muscle does weigh more then fat? that is a fact...its denser?

Ermm, 1 pound of muscle weighs ONE pound, 1 pound of fat weighs ONE pound.. One pound of feathers, bricks, cake, pie or buttons weighs ONE POUND. So no.. Muscle does not weigh more than fat.

Now if you are discussing VOLUME that is different. An equal volume of muscle takes up less space than an equal amount of fat thus giving the appearance of being smaller at a higher weight.

Generalizations about nationalities and physique -- i.e. people that say they have:
    "Russian metabolism"
    "Greek hips"
    "German butt"
    etc.

Not to say that people don't have some regional characteristics or diet that can be a contribution (some nations have heavier weight average than others) but particularly Americans that will attribute their 1/8th Greek heritage to the fact that they have big hips or like to eat.

Tbrain1989 I do hope you are being sarcastic.

A 1lb of fat weighs exactly the same as a 1lb of muscle.

You are right in saying muscle is denser, so a 1lb of muscle has a smaller volume than a 1lb of fat in the same way that a 1lb of chicken has a smaller volume than a 1lb of lettuce. But a 1lb is still a 1lb no matter what you are weighing.

Note that nowhere was it stated that "1lb of muscle weighs more than 1lb of fat," so I'm not really sure what you're trying to refute here. Most reasonable people understand that the statement "muscle weighs more than fat" is referring to its density.

I don't know why this "debate" still surprises me, however, given the fact that there are many here that constantly refer to "loosing" weight.

'Muscle weighs more than fat' in the same way that the same volume will have differing weights i.e. the muscle will weigh more. I don't think this is a myth, just a bit of a misunderstanding? Or maybe I'm being an idiot.

    Muscle weighs more than fat.

Your food instantly turns to fat if you eat too late at night.

Weight lifting will make you pack on POUNDS and POUNDS of near instant muscle and you'll end up looking like a body builder ... despite being at a calorie deficit.

A personal trainer or a supplement store is the best place to get workout information (SOME PT's are knowledgeable though.. SOME)

    Carbs will make you fat.
    Sugar is evil.
    Eggs are bad for you.
Running is going to ruin your body.
Lifting weights is going to make you look bulky.
Working out everyday is bad for you.

"Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat! A pound of fat is the same as a pound of muscle!"

That's the biggest misunderstanding I see here. No duh a pound of x weighs as much as a pound of y. Absolutely no one thinks otherwise. The rest of us just have the critical thinking skills to understand that the constant is the volume.

Eating carbs before bed will make you fat.
Post workout shake with simple carbs within 30mins after you're done training or you'll lose all your gains.
White carbs are bad for you.
Low weights high reps to get toned.

Is that true...that low weigh and more reps is less effective than high weight less reps?

You gain weight because you're building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat.

If you overeat at supper you will instantly put on 5 lbs of fat by morning.

You need to drink at least a large swimming pool full of water daily.

If you eat "clean" you don't need to count calories.

5:2 is a miracle diet, not just calorie restriction.

Water weight can be blamed for anything.

Working out more than 8 hours a week is a sign of OCD.

Heavy set women should not take yoga

People who eat after 6 do not lose weight
