I think it's finally time to quit
I have a lot of friends on my FL L-- they live near and far and it's a great way to keep up with everyone. I've enjoyed to social aspects and I keep the drama as much to a minimum as I can.
I know others don't like it, but I always have.
But today ... today!
I "liked" a post from the Red Sox Facebook page and Facebook -- oh why? WHY? -- suggested I might "like" the Yankess Facebook page.

is this Red Sox a knee high fan page of sorts?0

Perhaps, have you considered, that baseball might technically be the root of all that is evil since it is causing you to consider deactivating your FB accounts, and thus, possibly destroying your friendships and alienating you from the rest of the world?0

Meh... Facebook's algorthyms for suggesting pages works about as well as Targets "targetting" (no pun intended) ads based on what you buy... seriously Target, I'm buying pull-ups and big kid clothes now for my daughter... why would I need baby food and formula coupons?0

I concur... that's not even to mention what I think about Derek Jeter and his "looks".0 -
Red Sox and Yankees are equally stupid in my opinion...
Both teams buy talent and their fanbase is mostly bandwagon fans.0 -

And I became a Red Sox fan when I was 13 and visited Boston for the first time and fell in love with the city. Not to mention my home town's minor league team was a Red Sox farm team for many, many, many years and several of the big-name Red Sox started there.
I've loved them through bad times and good. You realize they didn't win a World Series for nearly 100 years, right? Tough to be a
"bandwagon fan" of a team that took so long to bring home a championship ....0 -

You know, I'm always amused when a Red Sox fan brings up the "100 years since a championship win" thing. There are lots of teams that have never won a championship.
Not that that is relevant, but I just needed to point it out.0 -

I'd have to research, but the teams that have never won -- how long have they been around? Are they mostly newer frnachises?
And, well, this was about baseball, but I'm also a Buffalo Bills fan. so I do know about never winning a championship! lol0 -

Bandwagon fans are people that only become fans when a team is successful or popular. The Red Sox have been much more successful and popular since the 2004 season and have picked up a lot of bandwagon fans as a result.0 -

But are "most" of their fans in that category? I grew up in the Northeast and there are a lot of people there who are Red Sox fans and have been since long before 2004.
And speaking of ...
I thought this was funny. That season, when they won that first playoff game against the Yankees after losing the first three, my boss at the time (huge Red Sox fan his entire life) came into work and said something like, "At least we won one!" He totally thought that would be it.
And I said it wasn't over yet and I thought they'd go all the way. And, as usual, I was right.0 -

I think so, yeah. The Red Sox have since '04 become the darlings of ESPN and I see tons more Red Sox jerseys and stickers and whatnot now than I did 10 years ago.
There's nothing wrong with it. I'm a Red Sox fan myself. But there are a butt-ton of bandwagon Sox fans out there who will stop paying any attention when the team starts to suck.
BTW, I live in upstate NY 30 minutes from Massachusetts and my GF redsoxie is from western Mass and lives in VT.0 -
LOL That's messed up of FB. I'm a Yankees fan and would be like WTF if FB tried suggesting Red Sox to me. That's ridiculous, but kind of funny though too.0

I hate facebook too. I'm an alum of Texas Tech University, and this stupid site suggested I "like" the Texas A&M webpage. I guess because I work at the Department of Ag...? Who knows.0

Actually, there are more established teams that haven't won a World Series than newer teams that haven't won. Yes, I wiki'd it.
Texas Rangers - (franchise began 1961)
Houston Astros - (franchise began 1962)
Milwaukee Brewers - (franchise began 1969)
San Diego Padres - (franchise began 1969)
Washington Nationals - (franchise began 1969)
Seattle Mariners - (franchise began 1977)
Except for the Nationals and the Mariners, each one of these teams has made at least one appearance at the World Series and lost.
Colorado Rockies - (franchise began 1993)
Tampa Bay Rays - (franchise began 1998)
These are the only newer franchises that have never won the World Series, but both have made an appearance.
*on a personal note - When I speak of teams that never win the championship, I'm usually painfully referring to my Atlanta Falcons. *sigh*0
