New York and Boston are big baseball towns, to say their bandwagon fans is just mind boggling.
  • Perhaps FB thought the Yankees fans could use a good slagging? They deserve it. Worst team money can buy....

*on a personal note - When I speak of teams that never win the championship, I'm usually painfully referring to my Atlanta Falcons. *sigh*

    Ha ha!

Texas Rangers - (franchise began 1961)
Houston Astros - (franchise began 1962)
Milwaukee Brewers - (franchise began 1969)
San Diego Padres - (franchise began 1969)
Washington Nationals - (franchise began 1969)
Seattle Mariners - (franchise began 1977)

I still consider them somewhat new teams, though. I mean, they've been teams for a far shorter time than the Sox didn't win the Series.

I'm talking teams from 1900-1930 or so.

Yeah, I guess I see your point there. None of those teams have been around for 100 years.

They're all younger than my parents! And one is younger than me. :-)

I have a lot of friends on my FL L-- they live near and far and it's a great way to keep up with everyone. I've enjoyed to social aspects and I keep the drama as much to a minimum as I can.

I know others don't like it, but I always have.

    But today ... today!

I "liked" a post from the Red Sox Facebook page and Facebook -- oh why? WHY? -- suggested I might "like" the Yankess Facebook page.

I might feel the same way as you, if, when I liked the Yankees page, FB suggested I also like the BoSox...

Bandwagon fans are people that only become fans when a team is successful or popular. The Red Sox have been much more successful and popular since the 2004 season and have picked up a lot of bandwagon fans as a result.

But are "most" of their fans in that category? I grew up in the Northeast and there are a lot of people there who are Red Sox fans and have been since long before 2004.

I think so, yeah. The Red Sox have since '04 become the darlings of ESPN and I see tons more Red Sox jerseys and stickers and whatnot now than I did 10 years ago.

There's nothing wrong with it. I'm a Red Sox fan myself. But there are a butt-ton of bandwagon Sox fans out there who will stop paying any attention when the team starts to suck.

BTW, I live in upstate NY 30 minutes from Massachusetts and my GF redsoxie is from western Mass and lives in VT.
I probably drove through your town (or past it) many times going from Buffalo to Boston!

Yes you did. I drive on I-90 every day to get to work!

Capital District! Upstate NY (even further north, like the ADK) does have a lot of Boston fans...

There have always been a lot in the Finger Lakes region and Western NY, too. I grew up in the FL region and my family is from Buffalo and I lived there almost six years.

Yeah, there's a big divide in (baseball) team loyalty once one gets north and west of Westchester. I grew up outside Albany, and lived in the ADK for almost a decade before moving back to the capital district, and it's interesting how many people up there, for purposes of sports teams, identify more with the New England teams than NY.

I go with the Celtics and Sox because I LOVE Boston, but for football, I'm Bills all the way. Even if they make me sad year after year. lol

    I live with a Dolphins/Braves fan. I don't really follow hockey.

We've been up there a couple times and went to see them, but it was before I "met" you. I have some cousins up there, too. We do need to get up there again. I like Atlanta (minus the traffic!).

Hmmm. I wonder if the Braves play the Sox next season ... I'll keep an eye on the schedule. But we might come up even without seeing a game if we have to. I need to see what bands are playing up there this year, too. There's usually someone I want to see! I'd kind of like to visit when it's not 900 degrees, too, so we can go to the zoo and do other things without bathing in our own sweat. I think I took three or four showers a day last time we were there. It was in July.

The weather has been great the last few weeks, but it got a bit chillier than usual this week. April is a good time of year for GA.

Definitely thinking seriously about an ATL trip this year!
