Plenty of people have been commenting with no shortage of confidence. Confidence isn't the issue :laugh:0 -
I love when someone comes to MFP and says they've gained 2 lbs over the past 6 weeks...... and people respond with "eat more" and "starvation mode."
Jesus.
:drinker:
Without a doubt the must frustrating and annoying aspect of MFP.

500 cal burn workout is like the equivalent of working out at a SPRINT pace for 50 minutes. I'm thinking you're burning way less than you think. Also, your body is in starvation mode. 1200 cal intake for working out 6 days a week is way too low. Eating that few lowers your metabolism and has a counter affect. I would also try shorter but more intense workouts as a change.
''Starvation mode'' doesn't happen
FTFY0 -
i was always told that i should eat more to lose. maybe add a few hundred cals for about a week or so to see if there is a change. like this week add 200 cals and continue doing your workouts, then see what happens after 2 weeks or so. good luck.:flowerforyou:0

in it for the 8 lb Jesus references.0

I've got $10 that says the OP isn't even logging consistently.
Any takers?0 -

Have you had a COMPLETE Thyroid panel done? TSH, Free T4 and T3? Also a Measurement of serum thyroid autoantibodies and thyroglobulin to test for Hashimotos Thyroiditis (which I have but it didn't show up on just a TSH and but did on a titre). Hashimotos is FAMOUS for not showing up on TSH but a complete panel done by a specialist familiar will know EXACTLY what to look for and how to treat it! If you don't get the right answers from your PCP...move on to another. =D
AGREE, AGREE, AGREE. I had a situation similar to the OP's years ago (exercising like a crazy person, netting 500 calories or less a day, and still gaining 5 to 10 pounds a month). It was a raging case of hashimoto's - antibodies so high the lab stopped counting... If she is truly getting that much exercise and counting calories faithfully (gotta measure EVERYTHING), then a full workup with the list above should really be the next step.0 -

I agree with this, the average resting body requires approx 1300 cals a day. the brain requires 20% of this, so, approx 260 cals a day just for thinking. Unless you've got a lower Basal Metabolic Rate than average due to genetics or a medical condition, something is amiss in the math here. What's your Macronutrient ratio look like? (protein/fats/varbs percentage)1200 cal and 500-800 cals burned 5-6 days a week?
Your net calories isn't even enough for proper organ function.0 -

lol yeah, with "eat more" and "starvation mode"
Need to see the diary, overestimation of exercise calories burned and underestimation of food calories is my bet.0 -

I'd be sick to take that bet Jon,0 -
I feel like this thread was a gift from the MFP gods to me on a boring work day! The sheer entertainment value cannot be measured.
I may have to log it as exercise. Complete with over-estimating the number of calories I have burned reading it.0 -

There are so many suckers on MFP, someone has to take it. Right?0 -

Don't you know??? Just TALKING about eating less can put you into starvation mode! The DAMAGE that you're doing to to your metabolisms is already catastropic!0

No, starvation mode, or at least many of the traits ascribed to it, is a real thing. What you corrected was correct, it does not occur unless you are at a low/very low body fat.
However when the body starts to go into serious lockdown to conserve cals, there are some very real and very major repercussions, unless you are totally irrational (IE, have an ED or are otherwise not of sound mind), it is kinda obvious. For example if you have a functioning reproductive system (females get periods, males aren't perma-limp), you aren't in "starvation-mode".
When very lean the body can big time downshift metabolism. It can't overcome a large deficit to totally stop loss, but it can get fairly close, and it an wipe out what most would consider a deficit. Long term ED sufferers can survive on freakishly little food and not lose weight.
The only time you even run the risk of bumping into it though is if you have an ED and very thin or you are chasing a sharper 6 pack (meaning you already have a 6 pack). Then the body can and does employ extraordinary measures to conserve cals, which drops metabolism quite a bit and has a bunch of other obvious side effects.
Functioning reproductive system is an easy test to answer the "am I in starvation mode" question. If dudes can get wood, nope. If women get their period, nope. If the reproductive system is non-functional (and not for other reasons), there is a possibility; the reproductive system is calorie expensive and not vital for survival.0 -

When you say "ED", you are NOT referring to "erectile dysfunction" are you?0 -
Sounds like you are eating FAR TOO FEW calories and your body is turning against you. You won't be able to lose weight if you don't properly fuel your workouts.
If you are eating about 1500 calories a day and burning 300 of those you will lose weight. I've been doing it now for 5+ months.0 -
OMG when will people get it?? The body needs fuel. It is like asking "Ug I put 5 bucks in gas in the car and drove 100 miles, now the car wont start" IT is out of gas. EAT MORE and MOVE!0

Actually, the OP "revived" it a couple of days ago.

THIS 100% ... Complete thyroid panel: including Free T3, Free T4 (not total T4 and total T3, you want the Free
s, specify that) ... Starvation diets and over-exercising can put tremendous strain on the body, when done for extended periods of time, disrupting hormone balance, namely thyroid and adrenal hormones ...0 -
you need to eat 1500 calories to start with....good luck0
