Hello all...yesterday I began taking whey...In the past I have never taken any supplements nor any protein shakes except for muscle milk and I didn't see a differences other than the dent in my pocket!!
I was reading the formula 50 workout book by 50Cent.in it he is saying take 1.5cup of whey and gatorade after every workout....I plan on giving it about 6 weeks from yesterday to see if I have any changes....
Does anybody have any experience with whey and how does it work for u?

I see more results from pure creatine. I do like the isolates though because it's a good ratio of protein to calories. Also, I can get some protein into my system before a workout without having to worry about digestion issues in the gym.0

Whey protein is as much a food source as it is a supplement. It doesn't "work" per say. Look at the label, those are the Macros you are getting from it. No magic.0

Its just a food. There is not really anything in them that will grow muscles bigger or faster. They are useful to help increase your protein if you have trouble getting enough from regular eating.
There is also no reason to eat around your workout unless you want to or you need to do something really active before the next day. .

If you dont want to read the whole thing at least read the "Practical Application" section at the end.0 -
It's a protein supplement, just like muscle milk is. It is just to get your protein in if you cannot do so with 'solid' food. You also do not need to take it with gatorade post workout.0
-
dude, what kind of results where you expecting in a day?0

Gatorade has nothing to do with your muscle growth. All it does is "put electrolytes back in you" or re hydrates you after sweating it all out. It is also very high in sugar. It isn't that bad I guess, but only athletes should be drinking it. Obviously you work out, but some one who does not work out would only get fat off of drinking Gatorade.0

If I drink Gatorade and don't workout...
...I'll get fat?
:huh:0 -

^ This. It's just useful if you can't get your protein elsewhere, or just like the taste. It's far from necessary and doesn't have its own special results unique from chicken or tuna or any other protein source.Gatorade has nothing to do with your muscle growth. ^ Gatorade won't give any miraculous results without exercise, for sure. And even with exercise, it's just a recovery drink - rehydrate, rebalance electrolytes and replace some calories.
But the only way it's going to make you fat is if it contributes to a caloric surplus. Sugar consumption does not automatically make you fat.0 -

Even if they were in a caloric deficit?0 -

Whey isolate is much better than soy protein isolate so you have made a good choice. It does not really answer your question but I thought I would share that it is important to stay away from soy protein isolate.0

Certainly not, that person is just misinformed or didn't think their whole post over before posting it.
Yep....hence the question.0 -
I gained 100 pounds in a year from drinking Gatorade.0

Sarauk,
The world has been mislead by the billion dollar industry. It would be wise to steer clear of soy protein isolate. Soy protein isolate is one of the most genetically modified foods on the market. It can wreak havoc on the thyroid gland. Soy is difficult for the body to absorb unless it is fermented soy. Fermented soy is not a problem. Compared to soy protein isolate, whey protein isolate is easy to absorb. More amino acids will reach the muscles quicker which will help to rejuvenate the muscles. Improving your muscles will improve your thyroid which will give you a healthier metabolism.
There are so many other reasons I can share.
Here is a video if you would like to watch.
I was in the dark about the dangers until I started ingesting soy protein isolate every day for three weeks in a row.

Soy is very bioavailable.
That video is from Merclola - not a credible source...at all.0 -
Dr. Joseph Mercola seems like he is a very knowledgeable health expert. Maybe you know somethings about him that I don't?
Dr. Mercola is only one of many health experts that know about soy protein isolate.
Dr. Mehmet Oz from the Dr. Oz show also believe in avoiding soy supplements made from isolated soy components.
I believe in what Dr. Oz would have to say because he is not trying to sell his own products.0 -

Nuff said.
He and Oz are total quacks.

First of all Dr. Oz has been repeatedly seen pushing dietary supplements that don't do a damn thing, such as raspberry keytones. It's very likely that the supplements he promotes on his show are "financially encouraging him" to do so.
Secondarily, I would very highly recommend you discontinue your use of Dr Mercola and Dr Oz as sources of information, for your own benefit.0 -

Unfortunately Dr. Mercola does not have a good reputation. Thank you for sharing that piece of information with me.
I have to have faith in some doctors.
I believe that Dr.Oz is reputable.
I have not heard of any supplement having anything to do with this topic. Maybe you can tell me what supplement that is that has to do with this topic? Please.
Let me emphasize that I am only referring to soy protein isolate. Soy in pure forms are fine.
Dr. Dean Ornish is another reputable Dr. that also believes in this.0 -

SideSteel I appreciate that article.
I know about Dr. Oz's integrative approach to medicine.
I actually like it and find it very intriguing.
It is intriguing to me because I would be ignorant to assume that science is the only source of real knowledge out there in this world.
It is a faith based decision.0 -

Dr Dean Ornish specializes in CAD.
He recommends extremely low fat diets - which is very controversial and can have a lot of negative health impacts. I would not use him as a basis for my nutrition decisions either.0 -
The best advice I can give to those above is to follow research, not people. People often link to website, or videos, or blogs, but rarely to articles.
Maybe Dr. Oz is a 'quack' that doesn't mean he's wrong about everything. People have tend to have opinions. Facts speak for themselves. Reputable, peer-reviewed journal articles are basically the only place I get information with regards to nutrition and health.
You could list a thousand things any of these Dr.'s are wrong about. It has no bearing on whether or not they are correct regarding any other topic. On the flip side, Isaac Newton was into alchemy. The point is, trust science not people.0 -

Why is that?
Phytoestogens...estrogens are not your friend if you are trying to build muscle. Estrogens help the female body store fat for healthy pregnancy, among other things. However, if you were a perimenopausal female, then soy protein isolate might help with the symptoms. Your mileage may vary, it doesn't work for everyone. I won't be trying it because I'm allergic to soy beans, but that's a whole other reason to stay away from it.
ETA: this is basic physiology/biology and has nothing to do with GMOs, clean eating or anything particularly controversial in science.0 -

Faith based decision? No, it is an ignorance based decision. "The dangers of soy protein" are not backed by credible science.0
