Ladies...need an opinion (I dont get it)
So yesterday while I was at work I had a customer come in and talk with me about a purchase. We sat and chatted in my office for a while and as he's talking he says, "I mean what are you, like 40 something?"
For reference, Im 33.
Now I realize that I do have grey, Ive started to salt and pepper in the hair.. and Im not back to my best bod just yet.. but 40's?
I need an honest opinion.. do I look like Im that old? (Not that theres anything wrong with that, But I have a good 7 years till then)
Should I start dying my hair? I didnt think I needed to .. but Im gonna see what you guys think.

I do not think you look 40. Have other people said something or just the one customer?0
-
You should only bother with it if it really matters to you.
Do you particularly care what others think?
Does it really bother you so much? (I'm guessing it sort of does, but levels cannot be interpreted through the internet...)
Only do what you deem necessary and what YOU feel comfortable with. If you're not comfortable with something, change it0 -
No, not to me.0
-
Based on your pic, you look true to age. Some people are just bad at judging age.0
-
No, You don't look like you're in your 40's. That being said, I AM in my 40's and don't think I look it. So, 40 must be the new 30 so don't be offended!0
-
No i would have guessed late twenties or early thirties..... definitely not 400
-
You don't look old to me...and you're pretty cute, to boot!0
-
Maybe it was more a statement of your professionalism or something like that and not motivated at all by physical appearance. I'd take it as a compliment. Esp. since he did business with you.0
-
You look fine. I work with children, so I am used to having my age skewed daily. I have been told that I look 38...
No worries my friend, just live your life!0 -
I don't think you look forty - more like mid thirties. But If it's forty, then it's a good-looking forty, so don't even worry about it. I bet it's the hair that threw the guy off. I personally think a little grey hair is adorable. DON'T dye it!!! :flowerforyou:0
-
Really, it can be hard to tell the difference between 30 and 40. I wouldn't take it too hard. I think you look fine.0

Dude, three of my fiance's friends are in their mid-to-late 20s and near bald. All shave their heads because their male-pattern baldness is so bad. It does make them look older, so I can't blame them for shaving it(damn that extra testosterone, hey? ). Greying hair at a young age ain't so bad. My ex's dad started to grey in his 20s, and so I'd always tease my ex that, "Oh, I think you've got a grey hair there".
Don't let it get to you. If it's that big of a concern to you that some people might perceive you as older, then do what you have to do. From your picture, there's no way I would say you look like you're in your 40s. Otherwise, I think you should be comfortable and confident in how you look. I think hair dye looks really "fake" on a lot of guys and they're better off showing that bit of grey.
Also, I'm a terrible judge of age. My parents have always consistently looked about 10 years younger than their age(my mother has legitimately been confused for being my sister despite always dressing and acting maturely), so to me, EVERYBODY looks old. Lol.0 -
I think you need more male opinions on the subject because it was a man who passed the judgement. Men probably look for different ques of age than women, and like a previous poster said, it may have been the fact that it was a business dealing and you were in your office. This can make you authoritative in the situation and make you seen older than you are, rather than look older than you are.0

I would guess early to mid 30's. You look good, no worries.0
-
As a gay male, I'll say you don't look near 40 at all. Very handsome guy, I wouldn't worry about it too much. My bf who is 24 is dying to have salt and pepper hair already...consider yourself blessed.0
-
To me, I'd guess mid/late 30s. I am pretty young though (22), less experienced guessing ages, I usually try to avoid it so I don't accidentally offend someone haha. None of my male peers have mustaches, so that adds a few years. Definitely don't think 40 though!
Nothing wrong with salt and pepper hair! My dad had it since before I was born, and I feel like it is a sign of maturity.0 -
I would have guessed you at your early 30s. I am 46 and there is no way you look even close to my age to me.0
-
You look on par for mid 30s to me! And totally don't colour your hair! I love the distinguished salt and pepper look!0
-
You have a mature look and there's nothing wrong with that. You look no where close to 40!0
-
No, I don't think you look 40. But I'm basing that on one picture; don't forget that people can assume you are older based on your personality and attitude as well. People have always thought I am older because I 'grew up' sooner than a lot of people my age and had a different lifestyle.0
-
You don't look anywhere near 40... some people have skewered age estimations. This person was likely just not very good at estimating age. Also, perhaps it was more about your personality, how you carry yourself, or speak. Many people are "old souled" happens a lot when people have lived or seen a lot, they seem 'wise beyond their years' so to speak. Your profile states you're former army.... I'm guessing you've seen some stuff, been through a lot, and likely carry yourself in a less carefree way that people would associate with youthfulness. Don't frett about it, S&P hair is sexy, I know very few women that don't find it attractive. Keep it, it adds character. George Clooney would never have been the sex symbol he became without having had his trademark s&p hair.0

Thank you guys for your opinions .. I appreciate it.. I just wanted to make sure I wasnt going crazy. I mean I am very professional in the way i deal with the customers.
Im a goof with my friends..
But I didnt think I looked like I was in my 40s.
This guy was probably 43, 44 .. so he thought we were the same age.. yeah no.
If any of you would like to add me as a friend please do.. I always appreciate the support here.
So dont dye it huh ?0 -
I am one that is bad a at judging age, if you decide to color your hair get color that blends grey hair rather than covers it up completely.0
-
Eh, people are going to assume because of the grey, but no, you don't have to dye it. A lot of women (and I guess men) like the "salt and pepper" thing.
Also, I creeped your profile, and want to thank you for your service. Happy Veteran's Day. :flowerforyou:0 -
NO NO you don't look like you are forty ... you actually look your age
I wouldn't advice dying your hair ... it may look ridiculous ... but mostly salt and pepper is sexy0 -
I think it's the goatee.
I could buy 40s, but also 33. You're kind of age ambiguous.0 -
I would guess early to mid 30's. You look good, no worries.
I agree with this0 -
I've never been good at guessing age because is my line of work everyone looks younger than they are, but please please do not dye your hair. It looks great.0

I'm not a lady (hopefully that's obvious!), but had to chime in because I just had a similar experience, but in the role of your customer instead of you.
Basically, I saw a guy who had the same color hair and similar facial features to my wife's uncle, who is around 50. I could tell the guy wasn't that old, but I guessed low 40's. I was surprised to find out he was my own age (I'm 32), but once I found out, I could see that my original guess was way off. So maybe you just reminded your customer of some older person they know.
Frankly, in my opinion it's always best to age gracefully. People tend to notice efforts to evade aging (like dying hair, etc.) and that always results in jokes and a worse social impression than the effects of aging could cause. Better just to keep up a professional appearance (which can be done at any age) and be comfortable and confident with your natural appearance. (Again, my opinion.)0 -

I agree with her. But when I say 40s, I'm thinking early 40s (40-43 at max) and not meaning that in a negative way. You look like a very attractive man!0
