help with greed

hi everyone

I am looking for some help - I am trying to lose weight by eating the same foods that I eat just now - my diet isn't too bad - I like all veggies and fruit. my problem seems to I am just so bloody greedy :-(

does anyone have any helpful advice on dealing with this? I don't know why I am so greedy but I suppose I didn't get to 215lbs by not being greedy!

I cut down my portion sizes and I am aiming for 1800 cals but when I make something I put the portion out on my plate, but the rest of the day/night I am sitting thinking about eating the leftovers and even if I am not hungry I am in eating it anyways because I cant get rid of the thought of eating the food

this is seriously affecting my life and I am gaining more weight - just feel so helpless - its not any foods in particular either

has anyone else overcome this or had any advice would be good thanks

Only make enough for one portion.

Don't make enough for leftovers or immediately freeze the leftovers.

Hmm-- I'd say make less food, so there aren't any leftovers in there calling to you. That'll mean cooking more often, of course-- but hey, more variety.

I'm that way with sweets. If there are sweets in the house, I'll eat 'em. All of 'em. Immediately. So I just don't keep them around. I had a cake last week on my birthday and made sure everyone took a piece home with them, for instance, because I'd eat that whole thing in a day if I was left alone with it.

Oh good topic. I feel the same ways with sweets... I've never thought of it as greed, though?? Once I have a little, I want more and more and can't stop thinking about it. I just brought a delicious cake my step mom made to work because it would have been gone in 2 days at my house.

    Make less...

I eat out of boredom or just because it is there..

It sounds more pyschological than 'greed', imo.

I would make just the one portion, or make the extra but freeze it as soon as it cools down, so it's not readily available.

Ha ha......I've never heard the word greedy used to describe over eating. Interesting.

cook less, or buy pre portioned food like ready meals (weight watchers ones aren't that bad) also, have you tried snacking on carrot sticks or something? could be a lower calorie way to cure the preoccupation with food.

I use my leftovers as lunch the next day :) keeps me from eating them so I don't have to worry about packing my lunch in the morning lol

I sometimes buy the "100 calorie" packages of almonds or pretzels, and then end up eating the whole box of six packages in a single day. For me, the food just can't be in the house. I agree that preparing only the amount you want to eat is the most effective way to avoid overeating at meals.

If you have certain foods you have trouble with (for me it's nuts and dried fruit, or any kind of sweets), buy only one portion at a time. This is more expensive per serving, but when you think about it, if you are just going to eat all the "cheaper" servings at once, you've spent more money anyway, and consumed more calories.
