ALL TEH THANKSGIVING FOODZ

Brace yourselves...Thanksgiving is upon us. :drinker: I'm trying to make a list for all the food I need to get at the grocery store for this day of eating festivus, and I feel like I'm forgetting some of the traditional (or even not so traditional) Thanksgiving foods/snacks/sides/desserts.
So tell me, what are your favorite foods/snacks/sides/desserts on Thanksgiving?
(Also..."healthy" recipes need not apply. I plan on eating lots of all sorts of delish food...and have zero interest in finding ways to reduce fat/carbs/sugars, you name it. I want the good stuff. I don't plan on logging any of it; I plan to thoroughly enjoy it and not worry one iota about it.)

In for fappery over food lists.
I know we're adding "canned" cranberry jelly, corn, and pickled beets to our dinner this year for my husband (since his family does that, we switch every year, and he might as well get what he wants EVERY year somehow).
Standards we do
Turkey
Ham
Mashed Potatoes
Stuffing
Gravy
Homemade Cranberry Sauce
Sweet Potato/Marshmallow Casserole
Rutabagas (gross)
Salad
Rolls
We used to do pasta, but we've dropped it as more of the FOB Italians have passed on
(I feel like I'm forgetting things now, too...)
Pecan pie
Pumpkin pie
Misc. random other dessert
All the appetizers ever (melted brie pastry, jalapeno/sausage stuffed rolls, crudites, etc.).0 -
My mom makes the most amazing stuffing in the world... It's all I need. I'd be fine eating just stuffing and green bean casserole.0

I saw a recipe on TV the other night using the Pilsbury crescent rolls. You roll them out flat, throw in some cheese and bacon, then roll it all back up and slice them into little rolls, bake like normal and enjoy. I don't see what could go wrong with this. YUM

At Mom's House:
Roasted turkey with Bell's stuffing both in the bird and cooked on the side
Mashed potatoes
Buttercup squash (boiled and mashed)
Homemade gravy
Coleslaw or green beans
Cranberry jelly
Pumpkin pie
Custard pie
Leftovers - turkey sandwiches with reheated sides, plus she makes a nice turkey soup out of the carcass (sp?)
At my house:
Roasted chicken (there's only two of us, a turkey is too much)
Stove top stuffing (in the bird)
Butternut squash (boiled)
Heinz gravy
Creamed potatoes
I don't make dessert because Hubs isn't much of a sweet eater so I'll end up eating most of it. If we have any, it's from friends who drop in and bring goodies with them.
Leftovers - I made a thanksgiving casserole with stuffing, turkey, gravy, creeam of mushroom, mushrooms, onions, topped with green beans and french fried onions. YUM!0 -
Cheesecake (grandma's recipe....it's not like any other you've had)
Sweet potato casserole with marshmallows
Beer dip - I bring this, it's my go-to recipe and everyone loves it
Homemade noodles
Roast beef
Bacon wrapped, brown sugar sausages
Sausage & cheese balls
Cheeseballs and crackers (green onion & beef is my favorite)
Veggie tray with raw mushrooms0 -
- Turkey w/ homemade bread stuffing in main cavity and Scottish sausage stuffing in the small cavity (my wife's mum usually does the sausage stuffing since she's Scottish)
- Pan gravy
- Roasted fingerling potatoes or mashed potatoes
- Sauerruben (Saured rutabaga or turnips...like saurkraut kind of...my German grandmother's tradition...I like it but most in my family doesn't...I always do it though 'cuz it's like having grandma at the table with us...I make it just like my grandma did...I shred and ferment the roots in salt for a couple weeks out on the kitchen counter...that's it...it makes it's own brine and soaks in that deliciousness...cap it an throw in in the fridge when it's to your liking...I like it nice and ripe)
- Homemade green bean casserole (I use a bechamel sauce and chanterelle mushrooms in lieu of condensed cream of mushroom soup and I make my own crispy onions)
- Chipotle sweet potatoes...my mom started doing these about 15 years ago in lieu of the more traditional candied yams...these are way better and the tradition has remained.
- Homemade cranberry sauce (my wife's mum usually makes this)
- Roasted butternut squash...roasted and then mashed with butter
- Pumpkin pie and apple pie
- lots of wine and beer0 -
i want pictures of all the listed food or samples sent to me ASAP. k, thanks.0

Mashed potatoes and homemade gravy
Stuffing
Green Bean Casserole
Corn Casserole (my favorite!!!!)
Sweet potatoes
Rolls
Pecan Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie
I am so excited for it all! Two weeks from today!!!!!0 -
Last year, we started a new tradition of having smoked brisket in lieu of turkey. It is delicious. I usually get up at about 6am to start the smoker, and it cooks for 10 or so hours.
I usually make a homemade blackberry-cranberry sauce to go with it and a few loaves of fresh bread. Sweet potato casserole is normally on the menu too.
Pics for da_bears1008:
^ This was the smoked brisket from last Thanksgiving.
This was the table spread with homemade bread, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, brisket with sauce, and some kind of rice.
My husband wants me to make another batch of smoked candied bacon this year too, so I'll probably do that.

You'll need to put a plate out for me too please.0 -
I don't give a rat's *kitten* about eating healthy on Thanksgiving. I will, however, work out that morning. I'm cooking again this year, and this is the menu:
Shrimp and cocktail sauce.
Meatballs.
Celery and cream cheese.
Biscuits.
Salad.
Corn.
Sweet potatoes with marshmallows.
Broccoli casserole.
Turkey and sausage stuffing.
Cranberry chutney.
Mashed potatoes.
Pumpkin squares (since I don't like pumpkin pie)
Black Forest trifle0 -

How do you make your corn casserole?? That might be something I can add to my menu! :bigsmile:0 -

What do you put in your broccoli casserole? And good call on the pumpkin squares! I'm not a big fan of pumpkin pie either (don't get me wrong, I'll still eat it, but it wouldn't be my first choice among desserts).0 -

I would love to hear about these Chipotle sweet potatoes you speak of!0 -
We go for the standard stuff:
fried turkey (the only way to make it--so moist!)
dressing (because I am southern and stuffing is just nasty)
mashed potatoes (real butter)
green bean casserole
crescent rolls
pumpkin gooey butter cake
plus whatever desserts my mom brings (chocolate chip cookies and pound cake most likely)
To jazz up the same old, same old, I plan to make an appetizer--raspberry brie bites (in puff pastry)
We may have a vegetarian attending, in which case I plan to add another side dish--so cough up that chipotle sweet potato recipe!0 -
What no dumplings? That's the only reason I show up for Thanksgiving dinner!!0
-
Stuffing, mixed with mashed potatoes with gravy! And I totally agree, enjoy with no regrets!0
-
Since it's just my parents and me:
Turkey (just so any of you Publix shoppers are not aware, they went on sale today for 59 cents a pound)
Mashed potatoes
Mashed sweet potato (Mom and I split one since my Dad doesn't like sweet potatoes)
peas/corn (Dad is picky about veggies and I'm allergic to green beans)
cranberry sauce
gravy
rolls
stuffing
apple pie
pumpkin pots de creme0 -
At our house the must haves are: Turkey, stuffing, cranberry salad, rolls, pumpkin pie, pecan pie
The other stuff is optional and changes from year to year. Green beans and sweet potatoes are usually on the menu, though not always prepared the same way.0 -
Stuffing, HOMEMADE cranberry sauce with tons of spices, and egg nog are all I need for an amaze Thanksgiving0
-
it's usually just the two of us and hubby doesn't eat turkey. We have done a variety of foods in previous years; King crab legs, lasagna, stuffed chicken parmesean, smoked ham. this year we're leaning towards my stuffed chicken parmesean, spaghetti squash, bread and desserts of some sorts and wine or mead. or maybe salmon on the grill weather depending. We'll also have summer suasage, cheeses and crackers, maybe veggie tray. And I've just decided that I want stuffed mushrooms. While some of this sounds healthy (like the salmon or the spaghetti squash), it's more because it's tasty than because of health benefits.0
-
SUPER EXCITING FOOD TIMEZ AT MY CASA:
clam dip and crudites
brined turkey
gravy
homemade stuffing
cranberry, orange, and apple "sauce"
corn puddin'
sweet potater/marshmallow/pineapple magic
green beans amandine
pumpkin pie
apple pie (a first this year--finally getting rid of pecan pie--blech!)0 -

Oh, I'm all in for naturally healthy stuff, no problem. I just didn't want people to start posting recipes for carb free/fat free mashed potatoes or things like that. Or hey, bring on the cauliflower, just don't try to tell me to mash it and replace the mashed potatoes with it. NO!! LOL0 -
We're paring down this year from the usual 15+ dish smorgasbord that we traditionally have (and I grew up on).
Meats:
Lamb Chops (appetizer)
Thyme Butter Baked Pork Roast
1 Small Rotisserie Chicken (for me, nobody else wants chicken)
Sides:
Gouda & Brie Red Bliss Potatoes Au Gratin
Broccoli & Raisin Salad
Sliced Peppered Avocado
Bread:
Honey Glazed Cornbread
Dessert:
Homemade Sweet Potato Pie
Pumpkin Bread Pudding
Ice Cream
Going to eat as much as I want the evening of Thanksgiving until either that Friday or Saturday, depending on how I feel. We're not likely to be cooking enough to last us a week or more, per the usual, so all the food should be done by the time the weekend is up.
Everything is home cooked except the small rotisserie chicken, which is sold at a few places in my neighborhood, and the bread pudding is from Trader Joe's.0
