I will be far away from consumerism, in the high mountains of snow at a wonderful cabin, and walking deep in the forest looking for the family Christmas trees.

    Amen.

I'll be in St. Maarten, but I still plan to check out the Black Friday deals online at Amazon and Best Buy.

I've been there(twice)! Well 3 times, but the 3rd time was just on a cruise stop. Love that island.

That sounds like my kind of day...we're actually hoping to start such a tradition once my youngest is a little older...probably a couple of years yet. My wife grew up selecting and cutting their own Christmas tree in the forest...I've never done it but the idea is very appealing to me...and I like the $5 license fee here rather than paying some guy $80 for a decent tree.

I've only done black friday once, but didn't head out until 7am to Best Buy just to pick up a new phone for $1. If I shop at all it'll be for clothes. But normally the weekend of Thanksgiving my family heads up to our NC mtn cabin to get our Christmas Tree from a farm up there. My birthday is also on the 2nd so I'll be celebrating that.

Will be in the Deer Woods recovering from a very harsh cheat day the day before and hunting Bambi's Dad. I'm pretty ticked off at him because he stuck his tongue out at me on my game camera 2 weeks ago.

I hate black Friday !!! Unfortunately my sister's drag me out to a shopping center in Montgomery :grumble:

I don't do shopping centers as a general rule - too many people. Just a stand alone store or one in a strip mall. Our tactic is:

    Know what we want.
    Walk in store
Hubby or I gets into line
The other person does the shopping.
    Check out
    Leave.

I typically avoid Black Friday like the plague, but I am in desparate need of a new TV. I'm going to be limited in where I can go since I have to leave for work by 7am, so I'll be scouring the ads to find my best option. Would consider going out on Thanksgiving if the deal is right, never done that before either. Cyber Monday never seems to have deals as good as Black Friday on TV's (that I've seen anyway).

How big a TV? Dell and Amazon have them on sale on line Black Friday.

No where, I refuse to shop and stand in line. I will be spending time trying to relax and workout. I'll either do most of my shopping online or wait until lines die down and see what's left.

I have to work a half day and then go be lazy at home.

I have never gone shopping on Black Friday (or the weekend after Thanksgiving for that matter). I don't do well in crowds and there's no deal I can think of out there that's worth risking my physical, emotional, or mental well being.

As for shopping on Thanksgiving - nope, never have and probably never will (unless it's running to the grocery store to get some forgotten ingredient) but we are going out to eat instead of cooking at home. Just too much work for 5 people especially since there's usually tons of leftovers and we're all trying to cut back.

From next Wednesday on, my shopping is done on the computer. I refuse to take part in the Black Friday and now Turkey Day shopping mess. For everyone that has to work, I am sorry. I hope that you get customers this year that aren't total *****y pain in the @sses.
  • Working. I used to work retail and black Friday are the stuff of nightmares. Refuse to participate.

Not shopping!!!!! Honestly, with how prices and no hassle from online purchasing, why would someone really want to stand in line in the cold at 4am in the morning for a few bargains that are regular price on the internet?
I worked in retail (Circuit City and Toys R Us) as a manager and can't tell you how obnoxious and rude Black Friday consumers are for that one day.

For me, it's hit the gym, teach a class and catch a movie with my family.

Online I can't try on work out clothes and honestly, the two stores I hit aren't usually too bad. =D. 95% off and then another 10% off that? Last year we got about $700 clothes for roughly $50. And since I also buy shoes & clothes for some of my track kids (school is in a depressed area) and I buy whatever they have that elderly nursing home patients can wear/use (I work with others of a like mind and we try to ensure those in the lower income area nursing home here receives a holiday gift), that additional discount really helps.

I don't go out at 4am. I go out at 6am after my run (I'm up anyway). Also, it's not cold. I live in FL.

Really?! My current TV is 42" so same or preferably bigger. I don't need to go crazy with 3D or 598238457652 HDMI ports/bells/whistles etc.

It's slow at work today, I'll check out their sites. Thanks!!!

I'm going shopping or to Ren Fest. But if we don't go to Ren Fest Friday we'll go on Saturday.

I like to use Black Friday Ads (bfads.net) and this year their helpful app is perfect.

    I will probably avoid Wal-Mart.

Also lots of places are jumping the gun and have their sales starting early. Online is the way to go for most things and since I have Amazon Prime I'll be comparison shopping.

    *eye twitch*

as someone with the good fortune to work at the mall on Black Friday at my second job /sarcasm/ I refuse to join in on the Black Friday festivities out of principle particularly because it has already in a few short years started to cut more and more into Thanksgiving.

And while some people may not want to spend time with their families, there are some who do and those are usually the people who have to work so that the others can shop! (especially when working on Black Friday is a mandatory shift to be "fair" to all employees)

    *additional eye twitch*

E2A: I don't work retail, I just have the good fortune of managing a fast food restaurant that happens to reside in the mall.

This. In order for the stores to be open at 6pm on Thursday as most are this year, someone has to be working all day getting the store ready, which means they don't get to spend any time with their family on a holiday. Black Friday sucks for the people who have to work retail without cutting any farther into Thanksgiving (at least with the midnight or early morning openings, the workers could spend at least part of the day with their family; this Thursday opening crap means that people are working all day on Thanksgiving and probably have to work on Friday, too).

I will be as far away from any shopping as possible, and hopefully still in a food coma from Thanksgiving.

After years of practice, my mom and I have found all of the shops that are empty while all the crazy people are elsewhere on Black Friday. We will be going there, as usual.

One thing I will not be doing at all this season is spending a single dime in Wal-Mart. We will be doing our very best to support local, small businesses.

Possibly going deer hunting. I would rather pay full price that put up with the dumb@$$ crowds.

Heck yes! I missed Black Friday shopping last year because I was in a small town in the middle of nowhere.

Will be in Salt Lake City so likely hitting one of the malls there, Best Buy, Target, Victoria Secret and either ****'s or Sports Authority. Have nothing in particular I want to buy, but I'm sure I'll stumble across some good deals for Christmas stuff - though I usually can't get past buying stuff for myself.

    That's racist.

In the off-chance that you actually don't know, and for those who really don't know...

It's called Black Friday, because financial papers often use two colors - black for profit/positive values, and red for loss/negative values. For most retail establishments, Black Friday alone counts for as much as 50% of the store's total yearly sales ("store" as in the individual locations, not the corporation as a whole), and what can get them from being "in the red" or operating at a loss for the year, to being "in the black" or operating at a profit for the year. Even the relatively small stores can see seven figures in sales on Black Friday, which is often their goal for a typical week or even month.

The only plans I have are to go the Y and run on the elliptical for an hour. Than I'll go home and study for the final that I have to take on Tuesday. That is all.

I work on Thanksgiving until 11pm, so I may hit the sales as soon as I get off work (bartender). I hope the customers are generous with us since it is a Holiday and all.

I'm going to spend this weekend plotting my attack. I'm going to put off getting the major electronics until after the new year as I don't have the skills to score an Xbox One at a good price.

This year I'm looking for clothes and household items.
