Weird Thanksgiving Day Traditions

This isn't weird, but annoying for me. I used to be a hairdresser, and every big holiday someone in my family wants a haircut. So I start drinking really early so they'll change their minds!
That is so funny! My sister-in-law is a hairdresser and INSISTS that every one get their haircut at every holiday and birthday party.0 -
Now our tradition is a small, very delightful gathering at my parents' house. No turkey allowed. This year we are doing a southern fish fry which is another family tradition from back in the day.
I'm kind of jealous! That sounds fun and involves food I prefer. The traditional Thanksgiving food is just "meh" to me, but my husband loves it and at least he is a fantastic cook ;-)0 -
I wear my Lion's gear the whole day. So does my family. Even when they lose (which is usually). I can't remember not doing this.0

That is weird. No football?0 -
I suppose what is "weird" to one, may be normal to others and we don't do anything that seems too weird. Growing up, it was at my grandparents house, and in the afternoon, weather permitting, we would go for a walk out in the country, or around town (very small town) or even a bike ride. On cold wintery ones, we played games - mostly card games- the rest of the day. For many years they had a dog that would sit in a chair at the card table as if he were human. Back legs out, front paws on the table. Best dog ever.
Now that those days are gone, there have been years that we went for bike rides, walks, and one year we went to the park and rolled down the hill - uber, dizzying fun . We still play games in the evening. Since I'm the one that slaves away in the kitchen I have forgone the walks and rested in my chair with my feet up. Since I'm feeling better this year, and sharing the cooking load, I may actually get in on a walk too.
Food is generally traditional, and then we do non traditional for Christmas.(prime rib or steaks), I was informed yesterday that I will be making Jambalaya for Christmas. We'll see.
Happy Thanksgiving! To our Canadian neighbors I say, "Happy Nov. 28th!"0 -
We always watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation on Thanksgiving day. That is such a great movie. We  and  !0

A Novemeber deer tag.
If not, then family gatherings and we all have to say what we are thankful for before we eat.0 -
This was a tradition growing up, though it hasn't occured in a few decades because all the kids in my family have grown up and spread out across the country. When we were growing up, about half the families on my block would gather for Thanksgiving and have a huge block party meal. Everyone would bring food. Then, after the meal, all the kids would gather on the back driveway of one of the houses where there was a basketball hoop. It would begin with a game or two of horse and then move into our annual, half court, full contact game of basketball. Ah, good memories!0

We have lasagna every year for Thanksgiving. Yum!
Except this year because my sister will be with her in-laws so I offered to do a traditional dinner at my house. Something different.0 -
Involves massive amount of rum & vodka (I got me a DRINKING horn to break in!), lots of fun adult activities and hours & hours of video games.
In case your wondering - the only "child" in the house goes MEOW >/\_/\<
We (myself & hubs) are already fighting over the big TV and who has to move what console to the other (slightly smaller but only 720p) TV. So far I'm winning - Skyrim needs to be played LIFE FLIPPING SIZED (60" HD/3D TV w/ true surround sound - so that crap creeping up behind you scares the crap out of you)0 -
This year we have no special plans for lunch with family (weird for us) so when I got a good buy an a turkey pastrami we made a plan to make ruben sandwiches tomorrow with it. The rye bread was just taken out of the freezer. We are also planning to go to see a movie tomorrow afternoon.0

THIS sounds like an awesome Thanksgiving!
We usually rent a big house on Hatteras Island and bike, run, walk on the beach, play cards and put together jigsaw puzzles...this year, though, we are taking a Christmas trip instead so it will be off to my cousins house for an uncomfortable dinner with 50 of our closest family members...missing Hatteras dearly right now.
The positvie thought is there will be a bigger variety of PIE!!! I'm hanging on to that thought....0 -
As far as you know.
Uh oh.....
kinda scared now lol0 -

wait who's doing all the cooking while youre huntin' and nappin'? I hope you show that woman some good appreciation.0 -
Share them.
Well, unless you're Canadian because apparently you guys aren't thankful for anything.
GASP! Are you kidding me? We were thankful weeks ago!0 -
I am a little obsessed with bouncy houses, so I like to use any excuse to rent them. My husband rented one for me on thanksgiving a few years ago just cuz he loves me. (Big cheesy smile) It has become a tradition now (woot woot) we rent a bouncy slide every thanksgiving!0

When we were younger, we used to drink apple cider in champagne glasses thinking it was cool.
A lot of the food in addition to the turkey and stuffing is mediterranean/indian, not including the stuff brought over by family. A lot of chai instead of apple cider, and tons of cumin and pomegranate seeds in everything.
Almost every year, we also have pizza because so many vegetarians that come over.
We almost always have two turkeys every year plus a chicken, because my dad seems to mess up the turkey everytime. -_-
My uncles/older cousins get kind of drunk/tipsy every year and somehow our living room becomes a dance floor from 11pm-2am.
There's ALWAYS someone sleeping on the couch the next morning. We also always run out of pillows. They pretty much disappear.
My cousins, siblings, and I will play monopoly for 2-3 hours EVERY SINGLE YEAR. My cousins and I are slightly tipsy so mess up the math and buy everything while siblings actually try to win. It's a lot of fun! The couple of times we actually "finished", I think I won twice without even trying!
I have an uncle that goes around filming EVERYTHING. I have no idea why, but I remember seeing a lot of pictures of me eating mid-bite and drinking and laughing and making funny faces. Then he puts them up and sends a mass email of them to everyone -_-
So many more, but can't remember them!!!0
