I guess I'm the dissenting opinion. But I do not understand why you need to parade around without a towel on. No matter how free and open you are with your body, not everyone feels that way. I was raised fairly conservatively and was taught that you don't parade around in the nude. I always at least keep a towel on because of that. And there's a lady who does put on her makeup/dries her hair/etc. completely naked. Sorry, it's weird. Put a towel on.

    :)

this is about how I feel about it.

I'm not uncomfortable with nudity- but don't saunter about- it's not for sauntering. The gym locker room is a place for you to get ready to do what you need to do. there is a woman who dries her hair standing in the walk by by the sinks completely naked. to me that's to much- put your underwear on- you aren't going to sweat through that so much it's going to ruin your day. Seriously.

I understand that the men tend to be hairy balls out- foot up chillaxing more than the women do.
Pretty ladies should strut around naked in the women's locker room though. It is my understand that it usually doesn't play out like this
the only women who really saunter about nude and casually are all older and over weight- I've never seen a fit head turning woman doing this. and most of the time one of these sauntering types sits down.

Do not sit down naked on the bench- that's flat out disgusting- there is absolutely unequivocally NO need for this what so ever.

I think it's one thing to shower, change, etc in the locker room and another to walk around naked for an extended period of time for seemingly no reason. How long does it take to throw on some underwear?

I just avoid eye contact, if possible. I view the locker room and the gym like the subway. I go there. I do my business. I leave. I don't socialize. I do not stay too long. Just do your burn and get out.

A locker room is there for people to change and shower so you can get on with the rest of your life. That means some people might be naked. Is the dude who shaves completely naked a little wierd and creepy...yeah. But it's still a locker room and you have to expect that the normal rules of clothing in society will be suspended there.

Just don't talk to me unless both of us are some what clothed.

What is weird is the guys who even shower with their swim trunks on....what's up with that? Where I work out, community rec center, you see alot of the same people daily. You talk no matter what their state of dress. Not like I'm discussing their personal body parts with them. "Hey John, is it me or is that mole getting larger?"

It is a locker room. It is what it is. Many individuals from different backgrounds at a captured time and space moment passing through. I grew up with constant locker room use so I have no issues - other than not being courteous and not having good hygeine . On the other hand, if you got it....flaunt it! Haha!

I was sitting on the bench in front of my locker getting dressed and this guy I played racquetball with comes up to me after his shower. He starts talking to me about the game while drying his junk in front of me in my fair catch zone and I just asked him if he could move his c*ck back out of my zone. lol

My wife has complained about it before. She is not comfortable in her body is her main reason. I think that the main reason for people not feeling comfortable in the locker room is how they look or how they don't like how someone else looks. It is all thanks to Adam & Eve and their apple eating... lol
  • *shrugs*. My husband has no issue walking around naked in the locker room and apparently most of the men at the gym walk around naked. I think it's more the women who have the issues with other women being naked. I really couldn't care less what someone looks like because I'm not looking at you.

And I really don't understand the whole thought behind "naked = sex" because it most certainly doesn't. We're a country of prudes. I vacation at a nude resort and believe me there isn't much sexual about seeing naked people every single day.

I have to ask based on normal observation why do men get so damn creeped out by other men in the locker room naked? People fo their to work out some actually do shower after that so what is the big deal? I guess to me I am losing patience with everyone who looks at you like you are some alien for being that way in a locker room. I think for those it bothers so much you should go workout at home if seeing other guys undressed makes you feel weird. Just my rant about that..

It's probably in part some kind of homophobia, and definitely part lack of comfort amongst men in our society with this sort of thing. It's just not "normal" anymore, which isn't to say it's wrong. "Normal" is such a plastic notion, it just takes people changing their minds.

It's just where our society is at right now, that's all, and most people aren't self-aware or care enough to address that. I wouldn't worry about it though, nothing wrong with it. Just put on a towel if their looks are making you uncomfortable.

Also, sexual deviancy is a huge meme these days, it's all over TV in crime dramas and all that. So "dude walking around naked like it's cool" probably evokes some of that as well.

Again though, in reality, it's a locker room and there's nothing wrong with it.

Ugh. That's "Naked 101" for sure.

I have to disagree. I think it's more the fact that our society thinks that being naked is wrong. People in other countries -- Europe for example -- are far more comfortable being naked. Look at all the topless and nude beaches there are in other countries. I can't come up with ONE topless or nude beach near where I live in the US. Even in Miami I'm hard pressed to find women going topless on the beach because it's such a big 'no no' regardless if it's allowed.

I have no issue with people being naked in or out of the locker room. I change in front of my locker and if I shower and get ready at the gym I will put my make up on with a towel wrapped around my waist, top exposed. If you want to look at me go ahead. I'm not going to be weirded out by it but if you tell me to cover that *kitten* up I'll tell you to go suck an egg because it's a locker room.

Here's a question: To all the people who feel that you shouldn't parade around naked, what do you do at home? Do you keep your towel in the shower with you so that you're not "parading around" naked when you get out?

My observation based on my experiences in the locker room is that it tends to be a generation gap. Old guys spend their time in the buff, having conversations, watching television, grooming, etc. The younger guys tend to be more modest, keeping a towel on. This is based on time at the YMCA, a 24hr Fitness, and the gym at my workplace - all in Houston, TX, as well as the Waterstones country club n Mumbai, India and at the Marina Bay Sands hotel gym in Singapore. So, it is a world sample.

Awww man I thought I was in for a crunchy locker story

    /dissapointed

But on a serious note, I don't get it either. If my nakedness in the locker room makes other uncomfortable then they can just look eslewhere or walk away. They were meant for people to, you know, take a shower and undress lol

I totally agree with that last part you said. Why people act shocked to see bare flesh in a locker room is just dumbfounded.

I am comfortable in the locker room but I think some people are a little too comfortable. Yes I understand you have to change after the shower but why walk with the towel on your shoulder and not on you? Why sit on the bench naked? I don't have a problem being in there and if i'm not going straight home after the gym I will shower there.

This is my observation and my opinion only.

This sums up my feelings, granted I am more of a square than most. For me, it's about expectations.

I don't have a problem with nudity in the context of showering or any context where it is expected and acceptable that people will be naked most of the time. I've been to several spas that are clothing-optional in the female-only areas, and I've done the nudity thing there myself. No big deal. Whatever. Like I said, it's EXPECTED in that environment that people don't just shower naked; they actually hang out by the pool naked, they get into the hot tub naked, etc.

The locker room at the gym is not a spa. Just because there are showers in it doesn't mean it's expected that you'll spend all of the time you're there completely nude. It's expected that you'll take a shower, get dressed, and go on about your day. Do you walk around your house naked after showering when you have company over? Probably not, and that's a far more private setting than the locker room at the gym. Using the logic that "we all have the same stuff" is like saying public restrooms shouldn't have individual stalls. There should just be a bunch of toilets sitting around because, hey, we're all doing the same thing, right?

Do you have strangers in your home when you get out of the shower? If not, this argument is invalid.

I roll nekkids at home to an extent- but it's the comfort of my own home. I tend to keep the bare essentials on- but I don't have a problem going to get coffee in my nothings.... but after that I put on a shirt or sweats- I don't have a problem with it- but guess what- it's the comfort of my own home.

I can do what I want there- I think there needs to be SOME amount of decency and "none parading" it's not your house- it's a private/public area. It's a common area with lots of people- NOT your own home- you shouldn't be parading around.

Sometimes, yes. But then again they're okay with walking around naked too. And it's my house and we have a sign at the front door that says it's clothing optional beyond that point so . . . .

    .

What the heck kind of locker room has a nekkid parade? I don't parade around anywhere in the nude. Parades require fancy dress.

Although im not bothered by it, I definitly do not want to see that person longer than 5 seconds. I usually turn my head in a respectable way. The ones who really bother me are the ones who think its okay to hold conversation for 15 minute while adjusting to every imaginable positon while drying off....totally unecessary.

Its not a big deal, just dont stare and all is fine. The only time I get creeped out is when the older guys walk out of the shower sporting a full blown bush that would make a 60 year old Albanian woman proud, ever hear of manscaping? LOL

I don't mind the nudity, I mean, it is a locker room. But I get concerned when I see men who are old enough to know better drying their balls off with the hand dryer.

i couldn't give a damn about naked men in the locker room. but when they want to have a conversation while flopping around, it's time for me to go.

i hope "natural" hiker doesn't mean what i think it means

I've always thought this problem could be easily remedied if all the men simply hung a wet washcloth on their personal portable "towel holder". That provides the necessary modesty on the offending part whilst also leaving you hands free to carry the other toiletries.
    This assumes they have boners.

Which would make it even worse.

Never bothered me but I try to conscious as it may make others uncomfortable.

Of course I grew up playing sports and at any given day in the football locker room there would be a guy running after a freshman with his junk tucked between his legs yelling to look at his mangina....or trying to give you a hug while completely nekked..or flopping his junk side to side when someone is trying to pick something up....I could go on and on.

Actually looking back on it, the amount of homophobic bullying is kind of disturbing. Really funny but extremely disturbing.
