10 lbs? Yeah right.

So the week of Thanksgiving I gave myself the goal to lose 10 lbs. by December 13th. My starting weight was 154 and I wanted to hit 144.

Well, needless to say, after Thanksgiving I was up to 157. I thought "there is no way in hell I'm going to be able to lose 13 lbs in a matter of days."

I started going for walks every day and I joined a December Challenge group with the intent to walk/run 20 miles this month.

Guess what? I weighed in this morning and was at 153.8.

I'm back on track and I KNOW I can hit that goal on the 13th.

I am in the same December Challenge: run 120 miles. I am 10 lbs from my goal of 135, and these are the hardest, so even 0.5 lbs a week will be perfect!

At your weight, losing 10 pounds in just over a week isn't really realistic. You could starve yourself and MAYBE see that on the scale but due to the extreme restriction necessary to lose even 4-5 pounds in a week you likely put it back on, plus some, the minute you go back to less restrictive eating. I'm not trying to be discouraging just realistic. At your weight you should be looking for maybe a pound a week.

Sorry if I offended you. I just hate to see people set themselves up with a plan that's flawed from the start. Come back on the 13th and prove me wrong. Not kidding. If you can lose 10 pounds in 8 days without literally starving yourself, I'd love to know exactly how you did it.

Edit: actually no, don't try to prove me wrong...I'd hate to think that a silly internet comment left you unable to function and falling down exhausted and sick.

Yea, nearly impossible for you to lose 10lbs in a week. You would need to create 35000 calorie deficit for that week to be able to do it. (3,500 calories = 1lb). Nearly impossible and very unhealthy.

She's right though. For someone who is not obese, the only way to lose that much weight in 8 days is to dehydrate yourself, and that's pretty freaking harmful to your entire body. Besides that, the minute you go back to eating and drinking normally, your weight will go back up. What's the point in trying to drop 9 or 10 lbs in 8 days just to gain it right back? What is the hurry, aside from wanting to meet an arbitrary deadline? If you want to lose 10 lbs, a more appropriate target date might be, say, Valentine's Day. That's 10 weeks away, and even that is fairly aggressive for someone with only 10 lbs to lose.

I agree with this so much.

I have a lot more to lose, and would love to lose 8-9 more pounds in December to ring in 2014 under 200# for the first time since jr high - but I refuse to push myself too hard. I will be there by mid to late January continuing on my same path and not depriving myself.

I think you should aim for 1, maybe 1.5 for a week from now.

Nine pounds in eight days? Are you not eating?

All I'm doing to hit this is walking a mile or two a day and eating fruits, vegetables and a little meat/nuts for protein.

If it happens, it happens. If not, oh well!

I've seen the effects of eating healthily and I know how powerful it can be. I will be back on this post December 13th to update you all. I'm not into the dehydration/starvation thing so don't think I will go to extremes to hit this.

I'm just doing it naturally!

I eat extremely healthy and have for a very long time. The only time I saw results like your goal was when I was seriously depressed and ate nothing for two weeks.

Shouldn't we be learning a new healthy way of life that is ongoing and can be used long term. I know in the past tight restrictions and fad diets ended up in failure.

    Goodluck

My goal is to lose a pound a week in December. I'm at a healthy weight now & doubt I can lose 2lbs every week anymore. I hope to be 128lbs by new years!

yes! This isn't just a fad for me. It's motivation to get into the raw/vegan life that I've been half-assing for so long.

I'd LOVE to reach the -20lb mark by 12/25 but I don't know if I will get there. As long as I do in the long run I am all good but it is fun to have a goal to strive for.

That's an amazing lifestyle change. I was a vegetarian in high school. I lost a ton of weight & my complexion cleared up. Good luck!
