Do ya'll think one should use wts daily? I don't, I generally do every other day. What is the opinion of MFP peeps? I don't want to look gross, just get strong and fit? Thanks!

This depends on how your program is designed.
Full body....every other day is the general rule of thumb. Or you can have an upper/lower spit where you can do the workouts back to back. These choices will often coincide with your experience level and goals.0 -

^^yep, to both.0 -
I know what you mean. I hate it when I accidentally put in years of hard work and dedication and end up gross.0

Look gross? Ok.
I have no advice for you.0 -
OP must be new0

LOL at some of this. I do weights 5-6 consecutive days a week, for example chest/back, next day legs, next day shoulders/arms, etc, it gets changed up. I hope I don't end up looking too gross0

I aspire to someday look as gross as the lifting goddesses of MFP....0

The number of days a week you train will in no way determine how much muscle you'll grow.
But to answer your question, I don't think people should train every day. Rest is important in recovery and growth.
I currently train 6 out of 8 days....I know, it's not a week!...but have done 3, 4 and 5 day splits. I rarely do whole body workouts...0 -
weights daily is ideal. if you don't want to "look gross" (I'm guessing bulked out) then watch you're protein intake. eat plenty of it, and always try to eat what you burn so your body won't eat muscle. Hope this helps. check out eat more to weight less group, they can help you more. Make sure you have at least one or two rest days or one rest day and one just cardio day. do your cardio after your weights.0

I'm kinda sorta new! I guess gross wasn't the right word.....I am chunky right now which is equally gross... I just wanna be healthy with a little definition and God willing.... six pack abs! I don't mean any offense to women who are bulked out, just not the look I'm going for. PS: My son is a body bearer for the marines and
bulked out....but I wuvs him dearly.....LOL, besides I used to work out and be fit when he was little but life and death got in the way and here I am a chunky monkey!0 -

Um I don't know how to explain it, too much muscle, they look older than they are and their heads look too small for their bodies. I'm sure these people are nice people and make money looking like that BUT steroid use etc is involved in all that....why am I explaining myself, who knows!0

Thanks for everyones replys....even if I did piss some of you off, it doesn't look like any of you are by any means "gross". You did answer my original question. It appears I can work out, lift weights and not worry that I'll look bad! SO...THANKS :):)0

Thank you.
The look you seem to be getting at is from years and years of training,a very low body fat, and, in the case of most, steroid and/or other substance use.
You really do not have to worry about it happening. If you start getting a bit too muscular for your tastes, you just have to back of the training a little or increase body fat.
Also, most of the pictures you see with the veins popping out are after someone has just lifted to specifically get them that look (pumped), with ideal lighting and usually with some photoshop going on.0 -

I compete in bodybuilding and know plenty of people who look like "that". On stage. For 5 minutes.
Normally, they don't look like that. The men may look "big" but they don't go around flexing and posing. That look is completely manipulated. Extreme fat loss, dehydration, depletion etc all comes together to create a certain look for stage (or photo shoots)
I think looking bulky comes from being too fat, not too muscly.0 -
Sara, I just turned 40 and have around 40lbs to get off, its so hard...this age thing is BS! Any advice? My skin is pretty tight, I'm not flabby fat....just chunky!0

Livinglean....yes I know I'm chunky and not muscly lol!0

I am 46, and started when I was 45 with about 37lbs to lose.
My 'story' is here.

The best advice I can give you is to read and absorb this:

You can be chunky and muscly...lose the fat then you'll just be muscly0 -
Thanks SO much I'm going to read this shortly! I've hired a trainer and try and eat clean...but I like wine, which I am giving up as part of my training...0

Livinglean....I hope to be just muscly!!0

That doesn't happen by accident. I don't think you have to worry about becoming "gross"0
