Weight/strength training?

I know what you mean. I hate it when I accidentally put in years of hard work and dedication and end up gross.
Hahahaha! This is great! It definitely doesn't just happen without a TON of effort!0 -
It depends entirely on the type of workout you're doing and what frequency it's designed for.0

I don't want to look gross, just get strong and fit? Thanks!

I turned 50 this year. It's getting harder and harder. Like most people I want to look firm and strong-I ( myself) don't want to look like a bodybuilder with that much definition. I want my body to look more like it did when I was younger. I try to do something every other day. As I've gotten older I am trying slightly heavier weights0

For one thing OP, you should be doing an actual program...you're not going to get a whole lot out of just willy nilly lifting some weights a few days per week. An actual program is going to dictate when you lift and how much, etc. Most beginner programs (and judging by your post OP, you're a beginner) are full body routines and performed 3x weekly. Otherwise, a typical split routine is 4x weekly.
In RE to looking gross, I'm assuming you have some irrational fear of accidentally turning into a body builder...believe me, you don't get that way accidentally. In fact, it is very purposeful and generally requires the use of performance drugs and other supplements...a spot on diet, including a calorie surplus and very specific programming/training.0 -
