When do I get to buy new clothes?

In the past 60 days I have lost only 9.2lbs. I did, however, lose 14.5 inches in that same period of time.
I spend more of my time weight training than doing cardio. I don't lose as many pounds but boy am I losing inches. I've gone down 2 pant sizes also.
I'd recommend adding weight training to your routine.0 -
i think one very big tip to note when losing weight is, DON'T LOOK AND ANALYZE WHAT YOU HAVE LOST. this would give your mind and body the satisfaction that "oh, I've already lost weight!" this makes your body lose its main motivation and 'push'. This makes future workouts even tougher to start and to go through it!
Satisfaction is super duper dangerous, set your standards high!!
And i noticed i lost pants size about 8 months later of active training 7 days a week, once daily for 2 hours. In a year i dropped 4 pants size in my first part of my journey. I hope this helped (:

I bought new jeans and pants when I was at about 157. Now 150. This worked out well because winter shirts tend to be thicker. Add a turtle neck under it, and that is a lot of clothes to be tucking in. I sure as hell didn't work this hard to wear a shirt like a moo moo. As with many of you, I am sure, having less boys fat causes us to be colder than past winters.
I am in the same shirt size (M), the difference is, I need slim fit. At that, not all slim fit shirts are small enough at the waist. The dress shirts that I had, and still in new condition will be altered. There is an alterations shop not far from my office that does great work at a very reasonable price. I buy good clothes, when on a great sale, so even with alterations, still a great bargain.0 -
I started out in September at a size 16 jeans that were VERY tight, probably should've been wearing a size 18. About a month ago I got tired of always hitching those up because they kept falling down and made a trip to the store. I was pleasantly surprised I needed a size 12! Shed a couple happy tears in the dressing room I was so happy. hehe Now THOSE are starting to look baggy and I'm playing the hitching game again. I think I'll take the advice of others this time and check out Goodwill. I'm only half way to my goal and don't have a lot of money, so I'll save any full wardrobe purchases until I'm there.0

I agree with you0

General rule is for every 10 lbs lost, it equals about an inch off the waist. So, every 20 lbs equals new clothes. I shopped at TJ Maxx and Ross as I was dropping weight due to cost. BTW, have lost 100 lbs. I had to buy new clothes every season change for about 6 years.0

As others have pointed out, it's differnet with everyone. I've lost a ton of weight and even though some of it has come off my waist and hips, I've lost it substantially in my back, shoulders, face and chest. So much in those areas that I've dropped huge sizes in shirts (3x to Large), but I'm still wearing the same pants I started out in only now I wear them with a belt.
I've accepted that I'll have baggy pants for a while. It's cool. I go out and buy a new shirt, new bra, that kind of thing periodically so that not ALL of my clothes hang off me like curtains, but I have been keeping those purchases minimal. It's going to get too expensive too fast to replace sizes as I go. I'll need to go get new pants soon just because the belt is no longer enough to keep them up (my butt is shrinking faster than my waist.)
Now that I'm in some smaller sizes I have better luck finding them at the thrift store or from friends who have lost weight. I'm ok with hand me downs for now until I'm at a size where I'm not going to change so much. I think it is important to have a few outfits that fit well enough - maybe not perfect - but well enough so you feel good about yourself and your acocmplishments, but wait on the new clothes until you're closer to being done. Unless you've got cash you can spend! Then buy whatever you want.0 -
Cant believe everybody is treating this as a serious question.....0

It's very interesting to see the huge variance in dress size for weight - not completely explained by just height either - body frame and how we store fat definitely has a lot to do with it as well.
For myself, I've lost 33lb and have yet to go shopping. That's partly because I've a wardrobe full of trousers and dresses that I bought because I (thought I) was a UK20. They didn't fit, so back of the closet they went. Now they do fit (and some are starting to get a little loose!) I've probably dropped about a dress size in those 33lb, if I'm being honest and admit I really was a UK22. I'm starting to eye up the UK18s now. But with trepidation because I gave away all my old 18s when I moved three years ago, so I'll have nothing at all to wear! If I can make it to the 16s quickly though, I'll be able to start pilfering too-big-for-my-wife's clothes!
The big shock has been bra size, though. I've not bought a bra yet, but I really need to as the back rides up all the time and it's starting to get very uncomfortable. I wasn't expecting any loss there at all (I was a 36" back at 168lb and was a tight 38" at 238lb.) I'm expecting to get back into 36" when I do go shopping. Of course, I have to buy them new and, because of my large cup size (currently unknown due to the aforementioned weightloss, but the H cups seem to be holding!), bras are very expensive new.0 -
Used clothing stores are your friend right now.
I went through so many clothes this year. Everything was too big. Now everything is too small! I had the coolest stuff from my trip to japan, very form fitting clothes for the summer. I tried to put on one of the polo shirts last week and the arms looked ridiculous.0 -
I asked this same question a week or so ago.. it's getting very frustrating to know that I have lost an inch or so and 12 lbs and can see no visible difference..0

I haven't read all the replies, so I'm sorry if this is a repeat suggestion....
If you like to wear skirts, that is the easiest thing to wear while losing weight. You can order stretchy maxi skirts from Amazon for about $10 each. I can't name any stores right now that carry them. A size large in one of those is going to fit anywhere from a size 8 to 12, and maybe even 14. No worries about being in between sizes. I hope you get to buy new clothes soon!0 -
Also, Goodwill stores, Christian Missions, etc...... Shop in those for a while.0

I was down almost 40 pounds before I started to noticed the weight loss myself. And at that point I had to buy new pants. At about 50 pounds down was when my top caught up to the race and my shirt and bra band size changed.0

I won't speak about money, everybody decides himself what he can and wants to afford.
I change the jeans about every 10 kg (22 lbs). By that time I usually take them away without undoing them. I even bought them in advance as I don't want to make a show from my weight loss, so I bought the same model in different sizes and now I wear the fourth pair. I only have one more in my closet. Lol!
I changed my upper body wardrobe only once when I was about 50 lbs less, bought everything 2-3 size smaller, also tried to buy the same models though I wasn't the same forward-looking and I couldn't buy all the models I wanted.
I use some of my old cloths too (from the time I was in the same weight as I am now), but I don't really want to wear it any more. I have really nice cloths for my goal weight, but not for the weight I have now.0 -
I just went through my closet and drawers this past weekend. Ive lost almost 50lbs and still have another 50 to go. I have all kinds of sizes in my closet (which I hate). I had three piles:
1. clothes that are too big
2. clothes that I can wear
3. clothes that are too small
I kept piles 2 (need to have them now) and 3(motivation)
Once pile 3 gets too big then I will go shopping and give ALL of the remaining piles away for GOOD.0 -

The dress I have on now is from the thrift shop  dress barn (prob was $50 new) I paid $9!!0 -
I was about 30lbs in when I finally bought new jeans, 40lbs in when I got new shirts. I have been only buying new things at thrift stores as I need to size down every other month or so. I make my shirts work for as long as possible and am only on my second size down on them, but I need jeans that fit and have replaced them 4 times now. I skipped sizes in shirts with the extra wait to replace, but not on my jeans. I also only buy 3 pairs of pants for each size and do a lot of laundry.0

I bought a cute shirt online that was a medium and knew I couldn't fit it,but that was my goal so I ordered it...when I got it I tried it on just to see how snug it was or if I had a chance in fitting it soon.I was shocked it fit ! I didn't realize that I was losing inches I was a XL.Not sure were you are at or where you want to be,but thats my story and idea to get clothes ahead of time that are where I want to be and get there.....I'm still shocked about it I haven't worn a medium shirt since I was 17.0

Next time take it to a tailor and get it taken in.0

A size is about 15-20 pounds...
The other issue is that by the time most people decide to lose weight they are straining the clothes in their current "fat:" size and should probably have sized up already but vanity or whatever stops them, which means they already have that much more to lose before they can move down a size.0 -
I asked this same question a week or so ago.. it's getting very frustrating to know that I have lost an inch or so and 12 lbs and can see no visible difference..
This is so me. The scale says I lost 34 lbs so far, and my pants size are smaller, but I don't "see" any difference. It is frustrating, so I know what you mean.0 -
Every 20 to 25 lbs for me until I dropped below 200. Then my waist size seemed to drop faster while my shirt size didn't move much.0

I had to finally break down and get some more pants last month, now those are falling off of me. THank god for goodwill, I just send my used pants to donation and get more here and there. I would say get more when things start to hanging off of you even with a belt0

This is me. Smaller pant size but shirt size is not moving, it refuses.
I was at a Ross today and bought a pair of pants and laughed cause I thought of this thread.0 -
For those that have lost weight already, at what point did you drop pant sizes? I know it's not cut and dry, and muscle and fat can change you body shape ect ect ect. Point is, I've lost 19 lbs so far, and I'm not noticing a big difference in my pants. Yes, they fit slightly better, but I'm so looking forward to buying the next size down. (or 2!)
after i got down to a 14, i started dropping sizes left and right.
remember this - there is only a two inch difference in sizes between a 4 and a 6 and between a 6 and an 8.
and between a 2 and a 4? only an inch.
but between a 22 and an 18, it's like six inches. so dont worry, it will start changing a lot faster the lower in size you go.0 -

I am glad to see someone mentioned this. Another person mentioned 15-20 lb being a size but I think that's only accurate for people in the middle range probably. I lost over 40 lb to get from 22 to 20 while only 15-20 lb makes the difference from 18 to 16. I know a few small women who can lose 7-10 lb and go from a 6 to a 2.0
