Why can't i loose weight anymore?

When i first started trying to get into shape, i lost 30lbs in about 3 months. But now i can't lose anything at all. For about a month now I've been trying new diets and have been going to the gym and working out hard every single day. I'ts really annoying me now and I'm so tempted just to give up as i haven't made any muscle gains or lost any weight or inches around my stomach for 3 months. The only thing that has changed is that i can run for longer and i don't want to eat as much anymore.

I try to stick to my macros everyday and i feel like i am training and eating like an athlete! Feel free to take a look at my food diary and any tips would be great. I don't want to sound spoiled but i genuinely feel like i should be in better shape than i am right now :(

From looking at just 3-4 days of your diary real quick maybe you are not eating enough and skipping meals isn't good. Just a quick observation.

Are you close to your ideal weight? In those cases you could lose weight more slowly. Have you tried changing up your diet and exercise routine? There are several tricks to beating a weight loss plateau. Good luck!
PS: you can also peruse other post about weight loss plateau's. It may not sound very supportive , but I don't have much time to give u a detailed answer

Could be your cheat days sabotaging your weight loss, depending on how high you go.

To be honest, on my cheat day i eat a big meal at around 9:30pm, the rest of the day is pretty normal. But i wouldn't have thought that was why i am still holding the weight, i hope not anyways lol :)

How can you possibly say you know for a fact that you aren't overeating if you have at least one day a week that you don't log?

I was going to ask this, too. Maybe your cheat day is bringing you up to maintenance. You won't know unless you actually log it.

ETA: What are you doing for exercise?

I didn't think that one day would ruin a whole week or exercising and eating well. I logged it in the past and it came to around 3000 calories. That's why it's called a cheat day isn't it...?

I go to the gym everyday. I do interval training 2-3 days a week and i do a lot of body weight exercises such as pull ups, dips, push ups...and could i cheat day really ruin a whole week? :O

I'm too tired to do the math. Add up your calories for the entire week, including your cheat day, and divide it by 7 and see what your average daily calories are for the week.

    a big risk?

well how is your current routine working? it's not isn't it...you aren't losing...

so maybe the "big" risk is exactly what you need to do...

there's only one way to find out.

How long are your workouts? How are you figuring your calorie burn?

  • With my body, I've found that increasing my calorie intake just by a little helps me to get off that plateau. I'm not talking a lot here. Just 20 to 30 calories over what I've eaten at, definitely not more than 100 calories. Also, despite that it's a cheat day, log everything on your cheat day just so you have that adding to your total weekly information. I know that it seems like a lot of work to do but those people that you see working out, doing the same as you and are losing weight, I can guarantee you that they are mindful of what's going into their body 7 days a week. They may also have cheat days but they keep track of it so that they can adjust workouts or the types of foods eaten the rest of the week to keep them on track for the big picture.

Hi OP well done for keeping on logging those cals and keeping your diary.

I read back around 5 or 6 days.

IMHO I would up the protein and lower the carbs to try to make a difference.

Maybe try to go quite a bit under with the carbs and quite a bit over with the protein?

You could look on google about carbing up, which is what bodybuilders do to try to bulk up before hitting protein...I am using this suggestion in a simple way...but you can help yourself by reading more about it?

If i didn't want to learn the science behind why i am not losing weight anymore, why would i have posted this topic? I can't see anything wrong with what i have asked. I am really appreciative of everyone's advice. Including yours...Why must you feel the need to get all snappy with one question i have asked you? How is anyone meant to learn anything without asking questions. Sorry if i offended you.
  • Sounds like you need a refeed/diet break. If you are getting leaner, then you'll need refeeds more often. Or an exercise break. I have plateaued for weeks, then taken a recovery, then lost again, then had to do the recovery again. I would only see loss after a recovery and it would come in chunks of 2-3lbs at a time.

Yeah i think i know what you mean. Is refeed basically just eat slightly more for couple of days? If so i would like to try that as i read something about that a while ago. Thank you for the help :)
