I must admit I get judgy when it comes to eggs. Cage eggs are not an item to be proud off. Skip wasting money on supplements and buy eggs that come from happy chooks.
How do you know the chickens are happier?
I was just going to ask HOW do you know if a chicken is happy? Raised in a cage, it knows nothing else. I think it's pretty damn happy it gets lots of regular food, but I've never been able to read chickens that well. :huh:
My parents have free range chickens. I can only guess from their behaviour that the girls are mostly happy. The eggs taste good too. Cage eggs such as the brand the op has in their diary are around $3 a dozen where I live. Extra large free rage in the same supermarkets are around $4-$5 . The cage ones don't tend to be as big either. I believe in getting what you can afford though, but where I live at least free range or even barn raised are really getting more competitive and affordable for most people.0 -

I don't know the science behind it, but it seems that food from animals that are better looked after (happier I guess) tastes better. Of course we buy what we can afford. When we can get better quality , RSPCA approved meats etc, they do defiantly taste nicer. Hopefully these products will get more affordable. I must say we rarely buy organic, but try and get locally grown. It comes down to what we can afford each week and what the kids will actually eat. I sometimes get free bread from work, and have being judged on eating that. Or eating garlic bread to make up my calories. So I do try not to judge, unless the other judges first.0 -
I think too many animated cartoons are giving people the idea that animals experience emotions not only in the same way as humans, but for the *same reasons* as humans.0

I like to use liquid egg product so I don't have to worry about things like happiness of my chickens.

I look at the food diaries of the people and sometimes the worry me.... not saying my diet is perfect in any way!
If I ate what they ate my body would be starving, I need salads or veggies to fuel myself. I plan on eating this way for the rest of my life, im happy with my diet, it works for me, and in sure they say the same thing about theirs.... its just the lack of fresh produce doesn't sound sustainable in the long run... to me anyway!
These people are meeting their calories needs for the day, but rather than filling up with healthy calories they would rather eat a little bit of something that is calorie dense... end rant

I must admit when I first started being active with friends on here, I must have been in that "we're all here for the same reason" mindset and I would check out my friends' diaries and comment on them (because that's what my other friends did - monkey see, monkey do, I guess). I wasn't doing it to be judgy, I was trying to offer concrete suggestions. But one of my long-time friends set me straight about that in a very kind way, and I will always be super-grateful. I feel bad thinking of the offense I may have caused unthinkingly.
So, OP, this is your chance to stop being a douche and start being a better friend. I took advantage of my chance, and I now have plenty of friends who make me happy. Admitting I was a jerk didn't cause the earth to stop spinning on its axis, I promise. If you can put aside your need to be nosy and judgy, they will enjoy your friendship more and so will you. I personally don't feel like sifting through 50+ items in the database just to add 30 calories of onion or broccoli or mushrooms, so I only add foods that have a calorie count of about 80 or higher. When my progress losing weight starts slowing down, I'll start really documenting everything carefully, but right now it's not worth the hassle. Potatoes and fruits have enough calories to get entered in my diary, but I eat a lot more vegetables than it reflects.0

I have an open diary, sometimes I don't eat tons of fruit and veg but none of my friends are ever as judgemental as OP. We tend to comment if we've had something particularly yummy! If we've had a day of high calorie food or missed targets we just encourage each other to keep going. Not sure I'd want OP as a friend if her idea of a "good" diet is the one that she eats and no other!0

Well, you certainly got hated on. I don't think it's very much in the spirit of this site to try and shame OP because she's indulged a bit over the last few days. Indulging in sweets + bemoaning lack of produce consumption in others =/= hypocrisy.
OP: the cool thing about seeing how other people eat is that it gives you a much wider perspective on what might work or not work - and gives great ideas for new foods that maybe you hadn't considered. Some people love fruits / veggies / produce and some not so much. What's important, I think, is to figure out works for you in a sustainable way. Let others find what works for them.0 -

I'm similar! If I'm not going through a bag of baby carrots in say two or three days, then they don't get logged. But I eat some pretty much everyday. Also, I blend veggies into my recipes and chop up fruit sometimes as well. You can't always 100% tell even from a fairly accurately logged diary what the person is eating!!0 -

Really? It takes me seconds to find any food listed by grams. Then it stays in my 'recent' foods list. If you can't be bothered now, I don't think that is a good indicator of long term success. Because to maintain you are going to have to be bothered. Also, you are losing out on your very own personal data base by not entering everything you eat as you lose weight. For instance, a personal TDEE calculation could not be made.0
