4 hours to go....my eyes are already getting heavy and my walk got cancelled when they came by to tell us that a pack (herd?) (group?) of feral hogs are running loose in the streets.

That's rough....Lasix for heart failure in canines?

In this case, it was Lasix, Pimobendan and Enalapril. Radiographs show a cancer in the chest.

    Had to look up pimobendan.
Vasotec and lasix...we use them quite a bit.

Feral hogs? Never heard of them running loose in a town. Is that a normal thing in your area?

Yes ma'am. They are a huge problem in our part of the state.

Truly, that's fascinating. They had coyotes running wild by my sister's place in AZ and I've lived places where there were wild dogs, but never thought of hogs running feral.

They are dangerous and destroy lands, crops, and will kill. They don't care. They're beyond a nuisance at this point. We actually have "hog hunts" in several towns/counties where people travel in to kill them. We have coyotes and wild dogs as well.

That's what happens when you live in the middle of nowhere..

I live in the sticks, but the main thing I see is herds of deer grazing in my back yard. One of the neighbors has a tree stand in the woods out behind my house where he can use his bow. We have a few opossums, skunks, foxes...but nothing like the hogs. I like the idea of the hog hunts. Do they give the meat to orphanages and such? That's what they do when the cull the herds of deer in the city where I work.

Most of the meat is inedible; unfortunately. I am grateful to hear there are areas still that have not been infested by them. We actually have businesses and and outfitters that all they do for a living is go to ranches and kill hogs.

Welcome to another weird night in the veterinary ER. A gal calls in who breeds Samoyeds. One of her neighbors brought her a dog that she found and said, "I think I found one of your dogs." The only problem is, it's not a Samoyed. It's a Bernese Mountain dog. They are only about 100 lbs different and don't even have the same color scheme. Oh well. The breeder was wondering if we could find the owner from the rabies tag but it was from a clinic who doesn't share their rabies info with us.

LoL....nice...hope you find the owners, though. Can you not just call them and they contact them?

No phone number or microchip. Just the rabies tag number and a clinic name.

No, can you call the clinic and tell them what you have and they call the owners? Surely they will work with you!

They are closed until tomorrow. The dog is going to have to spend the night at the neighbors house.

wow...all of the vets here have on call personnel for things like that; but I guess it's not technically an emergency and the pet has somewhere to go.

How is the rest of your night?
    And ahem ahem...it's your turn.

The problem with treating pets is they can't tell you what they just ate to make them throw up. The advantage to treating pets is they can't lie so you don't have to worry about telling you something that leads you astray. Working on a Yorkie now that is a magnificent dog. He is 12.3 pounds and has a very level personality. I wish they were all like this. I wish he could tell me what he ate, but I'll get him turned around anyway.
