Very good, Rob. I just use ABV*3 as a handy rule of thumb for a 12 ounce pour. This matches your chart.

For those who don't know, ABV(%alcohol by volume) is readily available from beeradvocate and ratebeer.

    This is awesome- thank you!

    LandShark Lager – 141 cal, 4.7% ABV

This is an awesome post. Thank you! But does anyone else concur that LandShark tastes like watered down Coors? eww.

    Great list!

I love craft beer, and unfortunately I have a taste for the high ABV, barrel aged stuff. You do not get a barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout without a calorie splurge.

It's still worth the indulgence. And honestly, I never had a problem losing the weight or maintaining my loss.

If you’re like me, you love beer. And if you’re like me, possibly the worst part about cutting calories is not being able to have craft beer without going significantly over your calorie goal.

But actually, that’s not quite the case. In my quest for finding craft beer that fits easily into my day, I have made up the following list of beer that is under 200 calories per 12 oz. Some of you with higher daily goals may be able to have beer slightly higher in calories, but for those of you can't and also for those who would like to have more than one or two delightful craft beers after work, under 200 calories is pretty amazing. I’ve broken it up into categories by type of beer so you can drink your favorite type to your heart’s content. In the interest of brevity, I’ve only included IPA, stout, porter, lager, and ale varieties, with honorable mentions to some decent commercial beers.

*** Please note that some of these may be local to me and not available in your area. If that’s the case, I recommend using RateBeer.com to find the calorie content on any craft beers you may be considering. This list is, of course, not all inclusive, so if I missed one of your lower calorie favorites, feel free to add it in reply. I also realize that a couple of these may not technically be craft beer, but they’re still pretty decent and I like them so they made it to the list.

***** Please also note that if you suggest MGD 64, Coors Light, Corona Light, or especially Natty Light I will report your post.

Just wanted to let people know that there is a growing trend of what's often referred to as "session" IPAs, which feature between 4-5% ABV. These are my current favorites:

New Glarus Moon Man (more of an APA) -- 150 cals, 5% ABV
Founders All Day IPA -- 141 cals, 4.7% ABC
    Lagunitas Daytime -- 140 cals, 4.65% ABV
Central Waters Hop Rise Session Ale -- 135 cals, 4.5% ABV
Lakefront Brewery Extended Play ISA -- 126 cals, 4.2% ABV
Odell Loose Leaf American Session Ale -- 135 cals, 4.5% ABV

These others are more seasonal, and may be gone by now:

Southern Tier Farmer's Tan Session IPA -- 138 cals, 4.6% ABV
Goose Island Endless IPA -- 150 cals, 5% ABV
Green Flash Citra Session IPA (bomber only) -- 135 cals, 4.5% ABV

The website RATEBEER.COM lists calorie and ABV information, if you can't find your favorite beer listed here. Basic rule of thumb is that the higher the ABV, the higher the calories!

This is an amazing app, if you have an iOS device. You can scan UPC codes, as well as just take a picture of a beer list. The app will give you the ratings, reviews, ABV, and calories for every beer on the list!

Nice job! Don't forget a nice glass of wine is also under 200 cals. I feel that a good beer or glass of wine keeps me from feeling deprived, so I factor it as an important part of my weight loss plan!

(I agree with whoever above said something along the lines of LandShark tasting like swill.)
