fifty shades of grey

I love to read. I read all three of the Fifty Shades of Grey books, they were quick easy reads with some *exciting* parts. I didn't love it, but it kept me entertained. Unlike a lot of James Patterson books where the writing makes the book too painful to read. Those are absolutely different genres, by the way.
Favorite series of all time: The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Amazing.
You are my new hero. Echoing all my thoughts in one post! Although the Dark Tower is locked in tight with LOTR for me. I did love all the DT books and it was dreadful waiting all those years for each one!0 -
I was not a fan. I did read all three, and while the writing was quite poor, that's not my biggest problem. As someone who writes erotica and has participated in the BSDM lifestyle, I didn't think it was very accurate. The bedroom scenes were similar (or maybe that was actually the writing) and the relationship was unrealistic. It actually seemed more like an abusive relationship than that of a true Dom/sub.0

I love it. And I love it because it goes on about the man's post and why he is that way and the fact that people are really like that. I hired I just dig it. I haven't read crossfire.
Not everyone with a past becomes a sexual predator with a messed up psyche.... that being said, I read them and they were a quick, enjoyable read. I kind of skipped a lot of the sex acts, because they were so repetitive. Same thing with the Clan of the Cave Bear series, skipped the sex and just enjoyed the story.0 -

agree with above poster completely, as i stated earlier. lol0 -
I loved it! I found it to be enjoyable for what it was. Titillating erotica. So shoot me.0

this is not what a dominant and submissive relationship are supposed to reflect. it was an abusive relationship more than anything.
Theres a difference between a healthy Dominant sexual relationship and an Abusive relationship. If it gets your rocks off though, go for it. lol

I think the only thing that irritates me more about this series is the fact that it portrays people interested in bondage as damaged :noway:
The 'spotlight' series is very good at portraying a more healthy sub/dom relationship, and I highly recommend it for anyone interested
Also, 'The girlflesh institute' is a very good read :happy:0 -
with love ladies, you aren't really reading it to critique the writing are you:huh: ... I personally enjoyed it for what it was, smut, easy read with a hot kinky control freak male lead! I dig that lol and I will be going to see the film version when it arrives in the sunny UK!
It certainly wasn't meant to be critically acclaimed so enjoy it for what it was...
LOL THIS. That is exactly why I read it.0 -

Whoops, didn't even read previous posts. Great minds think alike! LOL0 -
I also wanted to tie Anastasia up and beat her. Annoying whiny b!tch.
Exactly!!!
It drives me crazy how repetitive it was, seriously how many times can one person bit their lip??? So poorly written, and yet I read it and enjoyed it for the most part. Maybe because it's a very easy mindless read.0 -

It's by J.S Taylor it's a series of 4 books, with the first one being 'close up and personnal'. I think it's actually on sale on amazon at the moment aswell
Also, a side note, the 'girlflesh' series is a representation of MUCH harder bondage than fifty shades  just in case somebody decides to give it a read... :bigsmile:0 -
Shlt. I can write better erotica than that.
Seconded!0 -
I liked it but I think the Crossfire serie by Sylvia Day is much much better.
Agreed. But the last Crossfire book was maddening! Hated it but of course, I'll hang out for the 4th to come out, LOL!!0 -
I lived it. . except my (now ex) wife was the female lead and I was at home watching the kid.0

I will bet anyone 50 bucks that the lady who wrote that book has never watched porn or read any real erotica. 50 bucks!
I agree!! It's completely obvious that she didn't research the subject matter before writing it :grumble:0 -
I lived it. . except my (now ex) wife was the female lead and I was at home watching the kid.
lol.. thats crappy dude0 -
hate it...too explicit...seems like ugly porn.0
-
I think it's funny that "derp" is part of your name.0
-
Hated it; the writing was so crappy that I couldn't get past the first couple of chapters.0
-
Nothing redeemable about the books. Unfortunately, most erotica makes me roll my eyes and snort. This wasn't even erotica, it was just crappy writing.0
-
I had about 2 paragraphs read to me before I starting laughing.0

This right here. Although I will be watching it in the US.0 -
I read it and loved it and plan to see the movie. I didn't read it so I could get my red pen out and start marking it up for grammar and spelling errors. I read it because I wanted to read it and love reading, period. Maybe that makes me shallow? I don't really care that it does. I will say, it is definitely not the best erotic novel out there. Not even close, but it was very interesting. And I can tell you this, the hubby had no complaints with me reading it.0

While I totally admit to enjoying the read...I did get tired of the smutty scenes...I got tired of her orgasming every time just because he said he name...yeah right. So while I enjoyed it, in general, and I have read it twice, I don't know how much the writer really knew about s e x. :laugh:0 -
. who, in fact, did the author sleep with to guarantee such success?
Why do people only ask something like that when the author is a woman? I get that the book sucks, but sexist much? Geez
It is sad. There are a lot of poorly written books out there which take off. Twilight is terribly written, but the story was good enough to entertain millions and make the author rich. Dean Koontz isn't exactly the best writer out there, but he's making millions. For every Stephen King and Maggie Steifvater out there, there are a bunch of writers who don't write well but can tell a story well enough to sell a book.0 -
I tried reading it. I got through the first book and half of the second. Not my bag. I'm all for kink, but it was pretty vanilla imo.But I'm 26 and have spent A LOT of time on the internet Plus, as other people have mentioned, it was originally Twilight fanfiction made over with a search and replace of character names.
But hey, if you like it you like it. To each his/her own. Just don't be disappointed when it doesn't win the Nobel prize for literature.
ETA: If I could make millions writing a smut book you bet your *kitten* I would do it. I'm all about the benjamins over here.0 -
I have never read it. I feel like a complete anomaly.0
-
I love the books, but I think the movies will suck. I think there is too much sex in the 1st book, to really make a good movie without it almost being a porno.0

As someone who has participated in that lifestyle, it annoys me that everyone who has read the book is now an expert kinkster. :noway:
Many of my friends do not know about that side of me. But having to listen to them go on and on about the book and how they love kink now just pissed me off, especially because they are all vanilla as they come.0
