How do you make SALMON?

Hello MFP world. I am trying to up my Protein and I've read numerous articles about how wonderful Salmon is for you, and how high in protein it is. I love grilled shrimp, tilapia and halibut, but the few times I've tried Salmon I wasn't impressed.
Now I'm not a "great cook"...okay, I'm actually a "mediocre" cook...lol So I am looking for some ways to prepare Salmon, what kinds of seasonings work well, is there something people dip it in (ie. Cocktail or Tater Sauce?)
Any ideas or recipes would be greatly appreciated!!!!
THANK YOU!!!

Soy sauce and brown sugar:

I microwave it from frozen to fully cooked in 5 1/2 minutes. I'm a lousy cook though. A lazy cook as well. :laugh:0

Take a frozen filet (still frozen) and make an aluminum foil pouch for it. Drizzle with olive oil, your choice of seasonings, dash of lemon juice. Seal tight, bake at 400* for 25-30 minutes. Comes out perfect every time.0

I just season it and grill it. Sometimes I just use a little black pepper and garlic powder. Sometimes I add chili powder and spice it up. I don't like it at all with sweet sauces or seasonings. But many people do.0

I like to brush on some marianade made from dijon mustard, olive oil, onion granules w/parsley, black pepper, sea salt, minced garlic and lemon juice. Bake in the oven. Yum!0

I do LOVE Garlic....and onions....I didn't know if that would go with Salmon. I also enjoy aioli sauce and Dijon mustard.
These are all great suggestions! Thank you.0 -
I love grilled salmon with BBQ sauce!!0

Like so, with a little dijon, honey and pepper:

Delish results every time0 -
The sky's the limit with adding to the salmon. Some great ideas here as well. However, if you prefer Tilapia and halibut, you can stick to those as you'll still be getting the Omega-3's and other good fatty acids from the other fish - maybe just not as concentrated.0

I love cooking it steamed with soy and lime juice (replace the trout with a salmon fillet): http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1031/thaistyle-steamed-fish
this recipe is also gorgeous and low fat too: http://loulovesfood.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/dinner-bengali-salmon-parcels.html0 -
Cut salmon fillet into 2 inch pieces (up here its already frozen that way but if you're cutting it from a big fillet).
Mix:
1/2 cup half fat mayo (you can use full fat, I don't though)
lemon juice to taste
chopped fresh dill
salt & pepper to taste
Place salmon on foil lined baking tray. Spoon on above mayo mixture, spread evenly, flip salmon and repeat. Place under the broiler for 4 to 5 minutes, flip, then broil another 3 to 5 minutes (we like our salmon flaky). Voila. As long as I haven't cross contaminated the mayo mixture, my husband does use it cause he likes to dip his salmon in it.0 -
BBQ it on a cedar plank!
Soak the cedar (or maple or alder) plank in water for 8 hours. Season the fillet with salt and pepper. Top with sliced lemon rounds and a sprig of fresh dill (or rosemary or thyme) or just do salt and pepper. Put the salmon on the plank and put the whole thing on the BBQ at medium heat for about 20 minutes. It's sooooo good!
Also, honestly, the type of salmon you buy will impact the flavour. Wild sockeye is much richer tasting and less fatty than a farmed Atlantic salmon. Pink and chum also have good flavour, but they can be harder to find. I find Atlantic salmon (which is a type of salmon, not the region it comes from) is generally pretty tasteless.0 -
I've had luck making it in the crockpot with dill and lemon juice. It turns out really juicy.0

wrap it in tin foil along with your favourite herbs - I just use Mrs Dash lemon pepper. Then run it through the dishwasher. Sounds funny eh but it works
Or oven roasted with sliced lemon on top. The juices from the lemon will leak into the salmon. Mmmm0 -
So glad I came across this post! I made salmon for the first time last night....it was ok. I need recipe ideas. I'm really trying to stay on this eating clean kick.0

Pizza! No seriously. Use your favourite pizza dough, add some pesto, leek, tomato paste and then add slices of salmon. Sprinkle with cheese if you want to.0

I have a few recipes I like to do with salmon.
Parmasen crusted- broil about 8 min, then add black pepper & shredded cheese on top and broil until browned...about 2 min.
Coconut oil- smear or brush melted coconut oil onto salmon, salt. Broil about 10 min until crispy on top.
"Longhorn steakhouse" style- marinate at least 2 hours in soy sauce, pineapple juice, garlic, oil, pepper, onion powder. Lay fish on a pan, broil about 10 min.0 -
I smoke all of mine and eat it cold0

I brush the salmon with lemon, olive oil, and peppers then put it in the broiler on hi for 4 minutes each side. Tasty and easy!0

I used to hate salmon, but ever since I made it in my steamer, I've fallen in love with it!
I saw a recipe on a television program this past weekend (I think it was Jamie Oliver's 15 Minute Meals or something like that) and he described rolling the salmon in a mixture of black pepper, salt, and green tea of all things. I haven't tried it yet, but I've got the ingredients to make it this week and it sure sounded good. The whole meal did, matter of fact.
The recipe(s) were found here:

I love the cedar plank salmon also. I think I need it soon!0
-
Good luck, every time I attempt to make it, it always ends up in the trash! I can't get the hang of it....0

Light oil rub, rub with Pike's Place Northwest Fish Seasoning, cook. I either broil it or I heat up an iron skillet and cook it in that. That seasoning is AWESOME.0

Mine is really easy to make and remember. I don't add oil as Salmon is pretty oily and for me, it doesn't need any extra.
- Preheat oven to 350
- Wash the salmon, pat dry
- Season with sea salt to taste
- Season with fresh pepper to taste
- Put it in the oven for 35 minutes.
- Do the fork test. Which is put a fork in the thickest part of the salmon and fork out a small piece. If it comes out as flaky it's ready.
& that's it!
It comes out really yummy. I serve it with steamed broccoli & either brown rice or wild rice. The family loves it!0 -
Pizza! No seriously. Use your favourite pizza dough, add some pesto, leek, tomato paste and then add slices of salmon. Sprinkle with cheese if you want to.
I had an amazing smoked salmon and mascarpone pizza once from a local Italian. If you're DIYing, then you should put the smoked salmon on after the pizza has cooked, cos smoked salmon goes icky otherwise.
Ordinary salmon though ... I agree with the olive oil/oven baked thing. One recipe I really like is salmon risotto - make risotto as usual, with Arborio rice, stock, garlic, (later add crème fraiche for yumminess), dill, whatever you want really - and add your baked salmon. Flake it up a bit and stir it in - with some broad beans and/or capers. Delicious.
I'm disappointed that no one has answered the question "how do you make salmon" with an answer about racing to a spawning ground, jumping high in the air and then dying ...0 -
I slice a lemon into thin rounds and lay those in a baking dish, plop the salmon on top of it (skin side down if there is skin), and bake it for about 9 minutes per inch of thickness at 350! Sometimes I'll spread some pesto on top before I bake it and that is insanely good. Salmon is pretty much my favorite fish, it's really good when it's cooked nicely!0

I hate cooked salmon. Actually, I hate most cooked fish.
Love it raw, so that would be my first choice for how to get more in my diet. Smoked salmon would be second.
But, if you have to cook it, look up recipes for oil poached salmon. Don't be afraid of the oil - not much clings to the fish.
There's a recipe my mother serves me about once a year (she makes it more often, but not when I'm visiting) where you poach the salmon in oil and finish it with a topping of fennel and orange. The salmon is always tender and perfect, the topping is bright and very tasty. This is the only way I'll eat cooked salmon. I'm still not the greatest fan, but I can eat it this way - and others who think salmon is OK, but not their 1st choice, RAVE about the dish every time she makes it.0 -
I bake my salmon in a glass baking dish with the tin foil over it for 13-15min
This is a recipe that is delicious.. leave it in fridge to marinate for 30min
