I'm sorry

I'm sorry I underestimated the importance of strength training. I've never been so sore in my life, not even when running. I like the sore though, it's that kind of sore that you know you worked something that had not been worked before or that hard.

Now I know I'm a 'wimp' with only 3kg hand weights (I don't have room to store much but do have a list of things I have), but I do have some damn awesome resistance bands that go all the way up to 70lbs at the moment (going o grab a 120lb soon) but I can totally feel and SEE the difference just after a week. I have definition already, I can see things changing. I like it. I love it. I can still get a good cardio workout in it as well.

Now what do I have to do all this with no room, not a whole heap of money to spend & without stepping foot in a gym?

Kettlebells - 2x3kg 1x4kg
Medicine ball - 3kg
Hand weights - 2x1kg 2x2.5kg 2x3kg
Resistance bands - ranging from a small 1kg to 35kg (70lb) at the moment -including ones that attach to your thighs so when you do knee highs you can do it as well. Kinetic bands they are.
Total Flex - yeah I got one ages ago. Used it a few times. It's brilliant & also my 'weight bench'
Hula hoop - yep a weighted one just cause I suck at a light one right now
Fitness ball - various reasons & my son uses it to sit on when hes at his laptop
Foam roller - hurts me like mad, but it helps
Pilates rings - these are my one love, works thighs, arms & pelvic floor. Yeah who knew I could work that with this?
Balance board - my balance has been off for years, squats on this are funny hahaha.

I'm hoping I dont have to get anything else yet, hopefully the bands are going to be enough. I want the 120lb to help with pullups. Tried one yesterday & I got about half way, not bad for someone who never did one before.

Like I said...I'm sorry I ever doubted it..... but why didnt someone warn me that my back would hurt more now than it did before? Like really my back is so bad now that I almost wish I'd had the epidural into it.

I'm confused...are you asking for help developing a workout with the list of equipment you have available?

If so, I would purchase a copy of "You are your own gym" and start there. Use the kettlebells and handweights with that program for exercises that call for those types of weight- like overhead press, for example.

Also, what exactly were you doing to hurt your back? Was it something acute or does it just feel like DOMS- muscle soreness?

Strength training is great, but your back should not hurt. Training in a gym is great because you get advice on good technique and pointers on posture. There's a real risk if you train at home that your technique is poor and you're either not effective or risking serious injury.

Your back should not hurt after strength training...maybe check out some form videos for the exercises you're doing.

Edit: Having deleted four different attempts to express my thoughts on this, I'll just say:

Back injury before even starting anything. Never going to get better even with strength training.

    muscle soreness - yes
    back hurting - no

Please, find a plan that you enjoy and then watch some videos on form. Incorrect form will cause injury. That's not how you want to start your strength training.

Nerd Fitness is a good website for ideas on strength training for beginners.
    Good luck.

ETA: If you already have a back injury, you need to be very careful in what you do.

What kind of back injury are we talking?

Do you have a physio or back-specialist who can guide you?

Dynamic lifting like kettlebell swinging might be an issue, but there are other lifts that should be suitable.
