What motivates you to send a PM to a stranger on MFP?

depends on the person above me
waiting....0 -
Three reasons for me.
1. I saw something they said in a forum post that made me want to reply, but it may not have been suitable for the public forum
2. I saw something they said in a forum post or friend's wall, and wanted to reply and share a personal story if they were struggling with something, and I didn't want to detract from the thread
3. I have an opening in my basement that needs to be filled, and I have to lure them to a place where we can be alone.0 -
In response to a post I want further clarification on without derailing the original thread.

i don't send PMs to strangers and anyone who says otherwise is a lying liar who lies! :explode:
But you send them to friends you haven't yet met, correct?0 -
Usually when they are confused and people jump on them without explaining anything. Like why they shouldn't eat 1000 calories and then go to the gym and burn 1000 calories. I feel like a PM would be more helpful than posting in a thread they probably stopped reading.0

Funniest read of the day.0

The thought of lathering them up with PB and licking it off or boobies...0

To keep my hands occupied

I was in awe after reading a response to a distressed woman. His response was articulated so well, I sent him a PM thanking him for being so understanding and kind despite the harshness of the other replies.0

Pshhh....not scared one bit0 -
I usually get them, haven't sent that many first. I have been inspired to send a couple to people for side convos to not derail a thread, or when someone was particularly nice.0

So far, the only kind of messages I have sent to strangers:
With my friend requests because it irks me to no end when I get requests with no message!!!! Irks me! :grumble: Is it really that hard to write a line or two saying how you came across me and why we should be friends??? Its like walking up to someone and holding their hand without ever introducing yourself or even saying hello first.0 -
I don't, but maybe I should find one poor soul and send them the most random message for no good reason.... Could be fun or entertaining, at least.0

Personality, comments, boobs...0

Wait, all these PMs are because of boobs?! But they all said it was because of my sparkling personality :sad:0

No, not all PMs are because of boobs.

Too strong?
I have to stand by my prior decision... I hate this show. Even the gif brings back feelings of angst at having to have watched two episodes of it this weekend. Screw You Adventure People!
Oh yeah??
Two can play at that game, babe...
I you guys so much! Sorry to bring up those feelings Odus. My son subjects me to this show on occasion, so I feel ya. :flowerforyou:0 -
I'll generally send a PM if an OP's thread is derailed beyond all hope and I still want to encourage them or someone who is generally active on my FL or the forums gets quiet.0

A sincere flirt or a sincere compliment motivates me sometimes. Sometimes but seldom I'll send a random HI!0

And sometimes you tell someone extremely rude things to try and hurt their feelings don't you?0 -
Usually it's because I have something I wish to say to them. Since I don't have their phone number or e-mail address, it is very difficult to reach out to them in a more traditional manner of communication. Obviously letters are a bit outmoded to say nothing of telegraph and homing pigeon. Usually people are too geographically dispersed on this website for my favorite media, two campbells soup cans and a string.
So I rely on sending a PM.
Woooooow. You totally skip smoke signals? Fancy.
Lmao! Now this one made me laugh! As for sending PMs, I never have, nor have I ever received one. I guess if I ever did, it would be because I like their sense of humor or I find what they said somewhere on here to be intellectually stimulating.0 -
I have a social anti-anxiety disorder (Yes I made that up). The same thing that compels me to approach strangers in public just to talk about whatever causes me to do the same on PMs.
You know you have a problem when old ladies make up excuses to get off the phone with you0
