For Anyone Trying to Stay Away from Meat..

Thought I would share this video with anyone who is trying to avoid meat, or just for anybody's general education. This is what the food industry does to animals so that we may consume them. So next time you go out for some fast-food, think about where it came from. Please eat organic, cage-free, and/or humane products.

    right.

    nice first post.

nothing like some fear mongering to win friends and influence people

did you know that every acre of vegetable fields kills 5,000 animals?

    yeah. think about it.

the poor rabbits and mice and moles and snakes and foxes and deer and bugs and birds and every animal who needed that habitat.

    shameful really.

It's very difficult to get your point across when people just shut you down, so could everybody just try to be respectful? While this was not the most perfectly formed post it is the truth.

56 billion animals live awful lives and then are killed, that is not natural, your hormone and antibiotic filled meat is not natural. If that was replaced with plant such as beans, legumes, potato, vegetables etc we would literally have enough food for every person on this planet. The earth is actually suffering. Don't be so determined to live an ignorant and selfish life, because each generation will not be able to enjoy the earth as much as the past, that's including the kids you probably plan to have.

All this post does is suggest you buy free range or organic, wow that is so tame and yet you're ready to jump on the oppressive junk food picture train.

Living a kind, healthy and compassionate life is not something to be shunned, the OP is not fear mongering.

As a vegetarian of 20 years, I STRONGLY disagree with the theme and intention of this post.

People can make decisions for themselves. They don't need you to shove sensationalist videos down their throats.

Whats' the end goal, anyway? Do you realize that animal farming makes produce farming possible? If it weren't for the byproducts of the animal industry, what would organic farms use to fertilize the crops and replenish the minerals in the soil?

All I got out of this video is the food industry has perfected mass production and slaughter of animals. Doesn't really upset me, and I am a huge animal lover. Sure, the cows are cute, but I really want to eat them.

The cows at UConn make the best icecream on this side of the country. Those cows are treated like royalty.

Neither are cage-free. People think it means that there's luxurious farm land for the chickens to run around in. The reality looks more like a really angry-chicken version of times square on new-year's eve.

Meat is food, if you choose not to consume it that's fine but the things that you are posting are simply your opinions and aren't factual. The earth is suffering, please....

Some probably do. There's that whole urban chicken farming movement. People literally put diapers on their chickens so they can live in their apartments with them. LOLOLOL

This thread made me hungry for meat.
  • animals are meant to be consumed as food ..

To me, the problem is not eating animals (I'm not a vegetarian), but how the animals are treated before they are killed. I didn't watch the video in this thread but I've learned from other sources that the way the animals are kept in the mass production food industry is cruel, disgusting, and horrible.

I used to be able to get my eggs and meat from local farmers who treated their livestock right. Now I eat a lot less meat because I can't afford the ethical stuff and it's not widely available where I live anyway.

For the record -- if you can befriend a hunter -- venison is one of the most humane types of meat because wild deer typically live happy and healthy lives with plenty of space and shrubs to eat and friends to dare to jump in front of cars

That video is heartbreaking, decided to not even finish watching...too sad to see such animal cruelty for no reason!

So those that think this is fine that animals are treated this way instead make cartoon .gifs and tell the OP how shameful they are? Anything to distract from the reality of how animals are treated in factories when there is abuse, right? Because cartoons and rude posts are easier to deal with than actually watching it and realizing it truly does go on in places?

The message I got from the OP? Pay attention to where your food comes from... it matters. :drinker:

Not sure what thread the rest of you that are so busy making .gif burgers etc. are reading.

Doesn't sound divisive to me, sounds like it's open to anyone that would like to read or learn more. Meat eaters or not... seems anyone is welcome in this thread. But that doesn't mean anyone needs to create big time drama or troll or create personal attacks. Talking and discussing is one thing... if you eat a burger so be it, if you don't care to, seems that should be fine too.

I never really have understood the division between meat and non-meat eaters.. isn't it just a choice of food that's eaten? Why do some feel so defensive when meat is discussed? No one is taking burgers from anyone, at the end of the thread burgers will still be available. So now we can all relax and pick between a corn fed one and a grass fed one or none at all.

    So where's the divisive topic?

I wonder, do you think people are rude in order to distract from the horror of it all or do you think they're rude because they dgaf?

For me its the latter. Ive seen all the videos and heard all the PETA party lines (I had a veggie roommate in college. Nice enough, but like to put meat is murder stickers on my food packages) and, frankly, I don't care. This is me, failing at moral value.

I opened this thread because I was curious, but I really don't see how anyone can be angry when the topic stated that it was "for anyone trying to stay away from meat." Vegetarians need their motivation too. Don't open a thread you know you disagree with, read it, then act all offended, just to start a fight.

The original poster intended this post "for anyone trying to avoid meat." Not for people who want to shove as much cow down their mouth hole as possible.
