For Anyone Trying to Stay Away from Meat..

I opened this thread because I was curious, but I really don't see how anyone can be angry when the topic stated that it was "for anyone trying to stay away from meat." Vegetarians need their motivation too. Don't open a thread you know you disagree with, read it, then act all offended, just to start a fight.

Please eat organic, cage-free, and/or humane products.
Just like to point out the organic animal products are not necessarily more humane
Neither are cage-free. People think it means that there's luxurious farm land for the chickens to run around in. The reality looks more like a really angry-chicken version of times square on new-year's eve.
you mean the cage free chickens don't live in a swank apartment in manhattan?
Some probably do. There's that whole urban chicken farming movement. People literally put diapers on their chickens so they can live in their apartments with them. LOLOLOL
but I had to look it up just in case.
you weren't just being funny.

The original poster intended this post "for anyone trying to avoid meat." Not for people who want to shove as much cow down their mouth hole as possible.
so its a vegan only thread?
start a private group then ..
and yes, I love shoving as much cow down my mouth hole as will fit ….0 -

but yea I get it ..all us meat eaters are "murdering" bambi and what not and we are such "evil' people…rolls eyes….humans were meant to be at the top of the food chain, deal with it..0 -

I mean. If meat eaters aren't allowed (even though I feel like a thread to help people avoid meat isnt for current non-meat eaters at all, since those types don't need help avoiding meat do they?) Then that would make this thread pretty darn divisive. And that's against the rules.0 -

People wouldn't go on a thread "for people trying to avoid sweets" and post pictures of chocolate and cake and brag about how much ice cream they eat. So how is it acceptable to post pictures of big juicy burgers and hateful comments for people trying to avoid meat? It's just rude is all0 -

I'm 99.9% sure that's exactly what would happen, and I'm pretty sure I've seen it more than once.
I'm a vegetarian, but I've never watched one of those videos, and I never will. I have my reasons for choosing not to eat meat, and I made that decision based solely on my own feelings and beliefs. It was never because of anything that someone else said or did.
It's the right choice for me, and I never doubt it. But I don't believe it's possible to change another person's mind about something unless they're open to that change in the first place, and I don't believe in forcing or guilting people into changing their lifestyles. When I was younger, I was an avid meat eater, and what other people said about it made no difference to me. It was something I had to come to on my own.0 -

The message I got from the OP? Pay attention to where your food comes from... it matters. :drinker:
Not sure what thread the rest of you that are so busy making .gif burgers etc. are reading.
Thank you!! I didn't know this would get so out of hand. All i wanted to do was show people how the animals are treated. People think the Holocaust was the worst thing ever, imagine if all those animals were people in that video....
When I saw this video for the first time I cried. How can we treat other living beings in such a horrendous manner? I guess all the cool people may now resume posting pictures and continue missing the point..0 -
Wow, it only took until page 2 until Godwin's Law got tossed around.
Comparing factory farming to the Holocaust. Wow, not even sure how to respond to that. Possibly the most ignorant comparison ever.0 -

That is the most asinine thing I have ever heard. People think the Holocaust was the worst thing ever, implying that it wasn't? You've managed to both hurt your case, and offend an entire race of people at the same time...0 -

This. All of this.
I mean
Just.

As a vegetarian of 20 years, I STRONGLY disagree with the theme and intention of this post.
People can make decisions for themselves. They don't need you to shove sensationalist videos down their throats.
As a vegetarian/sometimes pescetarian I want to cosign this sentiment. Vegans are usually the worst offenders in this self-righteousness. It achieves nothing and just alienates people.0 -
How is that "the most ignorant comparison ever"? I will give you that it is a crude comparison, but given most of all the respondents' views have been sarcastic and insensitive, I decided to go with a more flagrant approach. If you watch the video, these animals are sentenced to death before they are even born. They are put onto assembly lines to their death, and gruesomely so. I don't really know of another scenario in human history that you could even compare it to.0

I was vegetarian for many years. It was the right choice for me then. I eat meat now, it is the right choice for me now.
That's basically life isn't it? Do what you think is best. The end.0 -
I haven't eaten meat in over a decade, but chickens have been discussed as a purchase in my house.
I think I could kill a chicken if necessary. Or if it p*ssed me off.
That makes me Hitler, right? I'm Hitler in this scenario?
Seriously, there is a way to have a conversation about farming ethics. This video isn't it.0 -

There is no comparison, because animals are not people. That heartstring isn't going to resonate for even the most passionate vegan if they're also sane.0 -
A majority of you are so quick to hop up for a rebuttal and argue that you are missing the whole context of what I am saying. Take responsibility in what you do: plain and simple. I don't believe in taking the life of any creature unless there is rightful merit. I don't think the actions undertaken in this video fall under that category. I have an aquaponics garden. I eat the fish, they are delicious. But I don't confine them to horrendous conditions nor do I allow them to suffer. I don't have a problem with eating animals, it's just the mainstream practices are not ethical.0

Yes and if we did not intend on eating them, they would never have been born in the first place0 -

Op, i love animals. I do, i really do. I won't stop eating meat, although i do think we need better laws to make sure they get decent treatment. There's no need for cruelty.
That being said, animals ARE NOT PEOPLE. Trivializing the Holocaust makes you sound ignorant.0 -
I eat meat.. and after almost crying at that video, I will continue to eat meat. I do not agree with their methods of killing them... But honestly, if they inject chemicals into the animals to kill them, they are just contaminating the meat and it will not be sell-able. I don't agree with them being beaten, left to slowly die, strangled, or not cared for at all.... But people are going to continue to eat meat, so these companies have to sell it..0

I guess your're right... Everything on this planet, and all of its riches, were made for man to spoil in whichever way he see fit. Never thought of it in such a narrow-minded way. Thanks for the enlightenment!0 -
Thought I would share this video with anyone who is trying to avoid meat, or just for anybody's general education. This is what the food industry does to animals so that we may consume them. So next time you go out for some fast-food, think about where it came from. Please eat organic, cage-free, and/or humane products.

When is someone going to start posting videos of the abject torture that fruits and vegetables go through before they are put on a plate for us to consume without even thinking? Who will fight for the carrots and apples?0 -

I really don't want to get involved here but how small of a brain must you have for that statement to even resemble logic?0 -

Did anyone actually see this? They aren't saying you HAVE to avoid meat, just try and use organic and cage-free products. Well, that's what I got from that sentence.0 -

I'm not sure who will fight for the apples and carrots!? What about the tomatoes too?
No I will take this seriously a bit. Think of the organophosphates and other poisons we "marinate" our produce in?? The only ones that survive it well are the genetically modified ones. Which Monsanto is cool with, they got 27 more different GMO crops besides the cotton, corn, and soybean we utilize everyday. And of course that harms us too, but who cares about us?
We SHOULD ALL have enough sense to realize the fallibility in that logic. Everything trickles down the food chain. And it is usually the animals we consume that have the most of these residual chemicals and minerals in them due to their hierarchy on the foodchain/human consumption
