Hey all, im new here and could use some help. Need to drop 50 or so pounds and was given a Phen scrip 37.5 1x , Test shot as my levels are low, 2 500mg metphormin a day, and Bupropion 150mg 2 x day even tho my rested BS is 105ish, I work out 3x a week burning 750 to 900 cals a workout, taking in 1200 cals a day under current plan, both my parents died at under 60 year old and were 300 lbs plus so genetics arent on my side. That being said at my 33 birthday I was 189 with a 31" waste. Im currently 256 with a 38 waste at 43 yrs old which isnt bad but 30% BF makes me obese.
Please keep the bro science to a min. I know Phen is garbage but I really need a kick start. Im 90% paleo w no fruit, all organic and minimal dairy as we have great sourcing here in Madison. I just haven't gotten a break I mean at those cal levels, with intermideant fasting, and a good 700c plus workout 3x a week pounds should be falling off. Cortisol and Thyroid levels are fine. Could it be the low T or T shots messing me up? Now I do go out three nights a week and have 5 to 6 beers and burger/ or wings, But is that isnt enough to totally mess things up. Any advise would be great. be gentle...

When did you start the test? What is it, 150mg once a week or what? Could be some test bloat if you recently started. But, with phentermine and 1200 calories a day (plus your cheat days) it should be falling off like you said. Your hormones and metabolism should be optimal right now.0

Um, not sure if you're trolling or not, but I think this part IS messing you up. A burger or wings, 5 or 6 beers, three times a week? Um, that's your problem, dude.
If it is just once a week, and you are burning through the calories with exercise, then no, it's not going to be a problem. It's all about fitting in your macros, and consuming less than you need to burn.0 -

But he's eating only 1200 the rest of the time. Thats still a large deficit for the week.0 -
you really DON'T need a kick start.0
-
Second shot I get one every 2 weeks..will the bloat go away? Are my 3 cheats killin' me?0
-
If your doctor advised 1200 for medical reasons, then stick with that or get a second opinion. If that's not the case, then increase calories, but make sure you are accurately measuring and tracking.
Also Bupropion can have a side effect of weight gain.
I understand about the health concerns and genetics. My mom died at 35 of undetermined medical causes. I am 36 and worry that I could have the same fate and leave my children motherless.

If you look at my profile I kinda do, hate to cheat but Im running it 90d, taking my BG daily and BP daily so I should be safe.0
-

Agreed. What you need is some consistency and an easier to follow plan. Instead of "cheating" on a 90% paleo diet (what does that even mean?), why not build in some beers and burgers into your daily calorie goal. Aim for something that's easier to maintain - like a 500 calorie deficit per day.0 -

You DEFINITELY have some test bloat right now then. Any time you take test shots, there will be a few lbs of water weight gained in the first couple weeks. Use your new weight as your baseline, because that water weight will stay there the whole time. It's not bad.
Can you ask your doc to do shots once a week instead? 2 weeks really is too long and most HRT docs should know this. The half life of tesosterone is more like 7-10 days. By day 14, your test levels are nearly back to normal...not good. You want stable levels.
Other than that, reduce those cheat meals somehow. Everything else is PERFECT. The phentermine is fine. The low cals are fine. You will get people here railing against you for that. Take it with a grain of salt. The easy, safe methods often lead to mediocre results. You have a health problem and are taking the right steps to fix it. Im sure you know to get off the phentermine soon as you can, so it's fine.0 -
Bupropean actually causes weight loss, in 80% of the people affected. Its just tuff I probably went to 189 to 256 slowly over the last decade. I'd love someone to take a look at my metrics, kinda following the low card keto type diet as it work well in tandem. My doc works out at the same gym and we seel each other and is like I have no idea whats wrong because you kill it at the gym. Thats why she was willing to script the Phen0

And for a male, that's extremely little, and also part of the problem. But I don't want to go into the whole starvation mode debate here, I just know I lost more weight when I bumped up my caloric intake to go with my exercise.0 -

exactly trojan, my numbers still shake out ok, bottom line turn 3 days to one or 2, 86' the wings loose the bun with the burger you get the drift. Im just stumped with this0 -
You will also be gaining a few lbs of muscle, EVEN with the super low calories, while on test. Your body has been used to low levels for so long, the HRT will kickstart some muscle growth0
-
Any diet that demonizes fruit, which is a plant that actually grows out of the earth, in favor of meat and dairy is crap. A balanced diet that includes a little of everything is the best way to get all the nutrition your body needs to function. Do you want to be skinny or healthy?0
-
No thats what Im looking for health with. I believe your theory on more calls. Look at metrics are my fat cals too much?0
-
Ha Thats a whole different argument. To me cholesteral is the biggest joke in this country. Body doesnt need sugar, refined or plants. If you look at my metrics youd see its not protein heavy at all0

I think you just need to wait a month and evaluate. You have completely changed your hormonal profile. It's going to take some time to see the difference. Too many variables at play now, with the addition of test and phentermine.0

90% paleo means Im eating paleo 90% of the time, a burger bun, ****ty chicken wings, beer and ketchup dont fit0 -

My point was simply that obviously paleo doesn't work for you if you are "cheating" on it 3 times a week.0 -

So your thinking the T will build muscle over time and loose fat, which it should, What do you think about one my 2 cheat days of raising cals to 2800 to allow for a cheat and cycle those?0 -
With all the crap spelling, I don't know how anyone understood this.
I agree with Cranq that a kickstart isn't needed.
1200 is low for a dude.
And fruit is delicious.
So is cheese.
This is why I don't follow paleo.0 -
Its not obv, as Trojan pointed out im still at a deficit, and 3 out of 35 meals I wouldn't call bad. Thats why Im looking for help. To your point its not working in that im 256 with 30 plus BF0
-
The cheat meals are killing you. You can't expect the benefits of a paleo diet and drink 15-20 beers per week.0
-
How many wings do you have each night you have wings? Six wings is different than 12 or 18, plus the sauce. Are you logging the sauce? Plus 5-6 beers at 300 calories each. And how big is the burger? That can derail you if you scrutinize the math. Look at the nutritional value for a wing sauce online. Two tablespoons of the stuff can have 260 calories and the sodium is through the roof usually, figure 5-6 servings of sauce on say 12 wings (I can easily eat 12 wings and I'm female, heck I can devour 18 wings) if the wings are soaked in sauce, plus they are usually fried in some kind of oil depending on where you get them from. That 2-3 times a week is hardly paleo plus the beer.0

i think that works. I'd just make sure that on days you DO cheat, the total calories is still under maintenance, which for you I'm guessing is somewhere around 3000 Calories. So don't eat more than 1800 Calories of burger and beer. That 2-3 times a week is hardly paleo plus the beer.
This has been said a couple times...who cares? What absurd dogma teaches that you fail if you don't stick to an arbitrary diet methodology 100% of the time? He's not prepping for Mr. Olympia. There is no magic that kicks in at 100% Paleo vs 90% Paleo.0 -

Well its needed in that Im doing everything right IMO and not loosing. I know 1200 is low we've discussed that, fruit is delicious and so are milkshakes - both have sugar, I don't do well with my BS when I have sugar. If its in your wheelhouse and you convert it well god bless. I live in Madison WI and am a member of SloFood. Sorry unless the cheese is a raw milk or non dairy cheese its pretty much crap. And again I dont do well with dairy so i eliminate it. Nuts Im fine, Nightshades Im fine, so I eat those0 -

Bupropion doesn't have a side effect of weight gain. If anything it has an effect of weight loss because it makes you less hungry.
More common
•Abdominal or stomach pain
•constipation
•decrease in appetite
•dizziness
•increased sweating
•trembling
•weight loss
Less common •Blurred vision
•change in sense of taste
•drowsiness
•frequent need to urinate
•sore throat
•unusual feeling of wellbeing0 -

Your probably right. I may go superclean for 30d and see what happens. If Im still stuck theres some thyroid, auto immune issue underlying...0 -
When I started 12-14 weeks ago with a board certified wellness doctor I was placed on phentermine to help kick start things and help with hunger. I was placed on 1400 calorie diet. Last week had my test tested and was 220. I elected to get test in pellet form. Slow releasing, and I get the pellets 3x a year. The one thing the doctor said the test would do for me help with endurance at gym, help with lean muscle and help lose fat in lower abd. Now only been 6 days so can't say if there is any difference with test yet.
Now that I am working out I have had my calorie intake increased to 1800. Talk to your doctor that is giving you the test and phentermine and see what they say. Ask about more calories daily cause 1200 plus all the exercise doesn't seem like enough but I am not a doctor.
Also see if you can go somewhere and get a BCA done every couple weeks or monthly. At my doctor they cost $20. It really has helped me to see the other numbers. The bigger picture as you will to see that maybe the scale didn't move much but you lost body fat or gained water weight or lean muscle.0
