If your doctor advised 1200 for medical reasons, then stick with that or get a second opinion. If that's not the case, then increase calories, but make sure you are accurately measuring and tracking.

Also Bupropion can have a side effect of weight gain.

I understand about the health concerns and genetics. My mom died at 35 of undetermined medical causes. I am 36 and worry that I could have the same fate and leave my children motherless.

    :flowerforyou: Good Luck.

Bupropion doesn't have a side effect of weight gain. If anything it has an effect of weight loss because it makes you less hungry.

    More common
    •Abdominal or stomach pain
    •constipation
    •decrease in appetite
    •dizziness
    •increased sweating
    •trembling
    •weight loss
    Less common •Blurred vision
    •change in sense of taste
    •drowsiness
    •frequent need to urinate
    •sore throat
    •unusual feeling of wellbeing

Yep not a wonderdrug, many drawbacks. But its a 90d run and monitored daily so we'll see what happens along with trying to tighten the play dates

How many wings do you have each night you have wings? Six wings is different than 12 or 18, plus the sauce. Are you logging the sauce? Plus 5-6 beers at 300 calories each. And how big is the burger? That can derail you if you scrutinize the math. Look at the nutritional value for a wing sauce online. Two tablespoons of the stuff can have 260 calories and the sodium is through the roof usually, figure 5-6 servings of sauce on say 12 wings (I can easily eat 12 wings and I'm female, heck I can devour 18 wings) if the wings are soaked in sauce, plus they are usually fried in some kind of oil depending on where you get them from. That 2-3 times a week is hardly paleo plus the beer.

I know its not paleo, hence the 90%.. 3 meals out of 35. Its most likely whats killing me tho, youre right!

Nope, it's definitely not a wonder drug, but if you need it and it works for you, stick with it. It isn't associated with weight gain to the same degree that other antidepressants are -- in fact, weight loss is a commonly reported side effect. Keep in mind that it can take awhile to take full effect and for the initial side effects to even out, but if you're committing to a monitored 90-day initial course, you should be able to accurately gauge how it's affecting you.

When I started 12-14 weeks ago with a board certified wellness doctor I was placed on phentermine to help kick start things and help with hunger. I was placed on 1400 calorie diet. Last week had my test tested and was 220. I elected to get test in pellet form. Slow releasing, and I get the pellets 3x a year. The one thing the doctor said the test would do for me help with endurance at gym, help with lean muscle and help lose fat in lower abd. Now only been 6 days so can't say if there is any difference with test yet.

Now that I am working out I have had my calorie intake increased to 1800. Talk to your doctor that is giving you the test and phentermine and see what they say. Ask about more calories daily cause 1200 plus all the exercise doesn't seem like enough but I am not a doctor.

Also see if you can go somewhere and get a BCA done every couple weeks or monthly. At my doctor they cost $20. It really has helped me to see the other numbers. The bigger picture as you will to see that maybe the scale didn't move much but you lost body fat or gained water weight or lean muscle.

Does the phen help with anything but hunger cravings? I thought it helps with metabolism too...How were your first few days? Im on day 5 and basically experiencing every symptom...

    Open your diary.

Are you eating tiny little burgers, or big half pounders? Are you drinking lite beer are heavy beer? There is too much info missing. But what I read looks like your 3 days of 1200 are completely wiped out by your 4 days of 3500.

Probably 12, with a vinegar/cayenne based hotsauce. Theyre fried junk, right and the beers, 6 may turn into 8... 8oz heritage beef burger good stuff, plus cheese and onions even ketchup..It adds up I still think at 1200 a day before going out, with 2400 to 2800 calories burned from work outs. Its like 2 free whole days!!!

Well its needed in that Im doing everything right IMO and not loosing.

This is where I have a problem. If you were doing everything right, you would be losing. It's very easy to overestimate how many calories we burn and underestimate how much we are really eating. Buckle down with your weighing/measuring food. Really track the heck out of it for a week. I'll bet you'll see where you're getting some extra cals in . Good luck.

    Scott,

What you are doing is obviously not working if you are cheating three times a week and eating 1,200 calories on your other days, and still not losing weight.

Can I talk you into tossing the weight loss prescription and investing in something like this?

-Set up your goals in MFP to lose 2 pounds a week since you want to lose quite a bit (it will be more than 1,200)
-Weigh your food and log your exercise calories every day
-Practice moderation with foods you like to eat, including those chicken wings, beers, and burgers.

If you do these things, you will lose weight and you will be able to create lifetime habits. Whatever you decide, good luck.

Scott I have had no problems with the phen. Only side effect at the beginning was dry mouth and I don't have that issue anymore either. Yes phen also helps with metabolism. Doc said it is nothing I will be on long term. Just till I get used to the new foods, less calorie intake. Once I am not having issues with over eating and doing exercise she will take me off it.

Now I do go out three nights a week and have 5 to 6 beers and burger/ or wings, But is that isnt enough to totally mess things up.

Um, not sure if you're trolling or not, but I think this part IS messing you up. A burger or wings, 5 or 6 beers, three times a week? Um, that's your problem, dude.

If it is just once a week, and you are burning through the calories with exercise, then no, it's not going to be a problem. It's all about fitting in your macros, and consuming less than you need to burn.

    This is your problem!

    Do this 1 - 2 times a month

eat right excersize invest in a food scale and a heartrate monitor

    follow caloric intake

    you wont need pills

pills bad bad bad, you are not even big enough for phen phen what quack gave you those?

Ya your probably right problem is I see these same people out 4-5 days a week drinking 12-15 beers, pizza...No gym, cigarettes, and their at 155lb...Am I jealous...damn right!

I'm sorry about the illness. I had not read that anywhere in this thread. My mistake if I missed it. I'm still going to stand by my advice to monitor the heck out of your calories for a week. It sounds like overload with the beer and wings, etc. What got me on the right track was NOT having cheat meals. I simply eat the foods I love in moderation. I fought this my whole life while dieting and it's why I failed to keep the weight off every time.

Now, I am learning how to eat like a normal person. It was a long, hard road. But there is no short cut. We have to put the work in to change the unhealthy habits that have gotten us where we are. I wish I had done this years ago. Again, good luck.

Im 90% paleo w no fruit, all organic and minimal dairy as we have great sourcing here in Madison. I just haven't gotten a break I mean at those cal levels, with intermideant fasting, and a good 700c plus workout 3x a week pounds should be falling off.
Now I do go out three nights a week and have 5 to 6 beers and burger/ or wings, But is that isnt enough to totally mess things up. Any advise would be great. be gentle...

As gently as I can...they call it "beer belly" for a reason. And 5 or 6 beers, three times a week, does not equal 90% Paleo. That's what's messing you up. Try cutting out the beer for a while--a month, say--and see if that doesn't make the weight start dropping. When/if you do start drinking beer again, have maybe one or two, once a week, and notice whether that affects the rate of weight loss, your BG, and so forth.

It'll catch up with most of them eventually.

Some of us just don't have the genetics to handle that much beer and pizza on a regular basis. T2 diabetes runs in my family; I've seen my dad living with it for nearly 20 years. I'm choosing to cut way back on the soda, pizza, sweets, etc. now, in hopes I won't ever have to deal with metformin, glucophage, insulin shots, eating at set times, checking blood sugar 6 times a day, and all that hassle. I've exercised pretty much all my adult life, so hoping that helps, too.

Hang in there! It's worth it.

My math says you're not quite 90% paleo.

    4 days x 1200 calories / day = 4800 calories paleo / week
    3 days cheat x 4000 calories / day = 12,000 calories / week not paleo.

That would put you more like 25 or 30% paleo?

I've never taken Phen. I would never take it based on what I know about the drug. I take Topamax mainly for my migraines but Topamax is also used for weight loss in obese patients. It has unpleasant side effects like every drug does but those side effects are typically only experienced at higher doses.

I think Topamax would definitely help with your cheat meals. I have absolutely no interest in "junk food." I'm able to eat ONE oreo or THREE doritos and be satisfied and not want to keep eating more. Whatever the drug does, it changes the way you think about food. At least for me it has.

Going out three nights a week is a bit excessive… If you are serious about losing weight, I'd highly suggest reconsidering how many times you go out to eat/drink. I think going out once a week is more than enough.

This is most definitely slowing down your weight loss. Not to mention the fact that you are not supposed to drink alcohol/beer while on Metformin.

I love booze more than most, but 15-20 beers a week on that kind of diet is pretty rough. I'd cut back on the brews a bit and try to hit more of your nutrient (macro and micro) needs.
