I started 5:2 18 months ago and reached my goal after only 12 weeks. I cut back to 6:1 and carried on losing, reaching 29lbs in total, I'm back to size 8 and a lower weight than I'd been for many years. I'm now lighter than before I had kids and my youngest is nearly 15! I've maintained for most of the last 12 months, gaining a little on holidays and also about three months ago when I really took my eye off the ball and was overdoing sugary snacks most days. It's easy to get back into the fasting habit and I look forward to a fast day sometimes! I also gave up sugar 8 weeks ago, and now have sugary foods (chocolate, cake, biscuits etc) only once or twice a week, so a sort of 5:2 system for sugar!
I have definitely found that 5:2 works for maintaining and I may only fast once or twice a month.0
