I've seen these claims repeated multiple times, usually on a facebook "share this to save your friends too" post.

Is there actually anything to back up these claims? And research or data? I have yet to see any … and some of the claims are downright silly (lemon, one of the most acidic foods, will alkalize your system? And do you even know what would happen if your system did become alkaline?)

Now, don't get me wrong, I like lemon. I drink lemon tea to clear out my throat before a performance, especially if I'm singing (rather than playing flute) or if I've been feeling scratchy. I drink lemonade. It's yummy and refreshing. I put lemon juice in different foods. But I don't for an instant buy into the idea that lemons, or any other food, are the panacea for all our ills.

"It has a synergizing effect on the body as it helps soothe the digestive system."

"It conditions and clenches the liver."

Don't even know what this kind of stuff is supposed to mean but I guess sounding "sciencey" is good enough.

I drink a freshly squeeze lemon juice (3-4 times a week) for 6 mths, no sugar,no honey..just Purely lemon juice with lukewarm water ,first thing in the morning.

If you mix it with vodka,tea..etc,it reduces the effectiveness of what you reading in my post

I have been drinking lemon juice with hot (not boiling water) for a while now and it appears that it is helping with the digestive bit. It also 'feels' cleansing.

Be careful though if drinking this first thing - don't brush your teeth for a while as the acid in lemons can wear your tooth enamel, its better to wait for a bit or brush your teeth beforehand (which tastes pretty disgusting!)

I brush my teeth before drinking lemon juice, add with lukewarm water, first thing in the morning. Those around me always wondered how I can stand the acidic taste of lemon. I told them to google themselves :-P

I'm sure it has some nutrition in it and it's a healthier alternative to sodas and such but there's nothing there that can't be claimed by just eating oranges, the claims are too general.

Also, the claim that vitamin C fights the common cold is a marketing ploy. The study that showed an effect on prevention was only ever shown on people whose bodies are under great stress on a regular basis like marathon runners or military personnel in arctic regions.

They can market vitamin c quite heavily because it's one of the vitamins you can't overdose on. The body rejects the overdose by passing it through urine.

I also read all the benefits and thought, what could it hurt to try? I've been drinking hot/warm lemon water with a touch of honey every morning for the past three weeks. I used to get colds etc every other week and for once, I feel great! This is the longest I've gone without having some sort of cold in over 2 years. It could just be a coincidence but who knows??
Also, I get heartburn a lot and I thought this drink would also give it to me considering its quite an acidic drink....but it doesn't! I always have it after brushing my teeth as well. I use Real Lemon concentrated lemon juice (nothing else is added), about a tsp of honey and a slice of fresh lemon.

That's great but I'd like proof its the lemon juice that's resonsible. I haven't had lemon juice in any form at all in 6 months and haven't been sick ( (fever, sore throat, coughing) and my weight reduction also goes great.

If you enjoy it then fine, drink it but please don't claim a bunch of medical benefits that don't exist and there is no scientific proof of.

I drink it because it tastes good. I really doubt about all of the medical benefits it has as well.

I don't know about all that. I'd like to believe and trust in it, sure. Mostly because I love lemons, and eat them like some people eat oranges.

However, I can vouch on the "good for skin, cleansing skin yadada" and the "warm lemon water makes you poop" parts. I usually put some lemon juice in my green tea in the morning, and I've noticed that I uh, poop more when I do. And defecate less when I don't.

On top of that, when I notice that I'm starting to breakout on my face, I juice a few lemons and add them to my water for a day or two and, it kinda stops the breakout in it's tracks.

My only concern is how acidic it is for my teeth. I feel like just waiting a while to brush them afterwards isn't quite enough.

    I love this.

Thanks for the info! I would love to see some studies or papers on the topic since I have heard most of these type of claims attributed to just drinking a couple glasses of warm water, just warm water. Currently, I've put warm lemon juice in the same bucket with putting Vicks on your kids feet for fever. Doesn't hurt to try, but not a one size fits all kind of thing.
