OMG. We live in a world of the perpetually offended. Don't get mad at Sephora. Get mad at the company that named the product. Or, here's an idea, don't get mad at all. Why be offended by every little thing? It's the name of the product. That particular company asked Sephora to hand out free samples. There was no ulterior motive other than to sell their product. They aren't secretly making fun of you or "fat shaming" you.

maybe it wasn't on purpose. One time at Sephora I got perfume samples for men (and I'm a very well shaped girl).

You should be offended and call and complain.

lol.... like they smacked you in the face...-go on a diet....

Reminds me of the really fat lady at Costco asking when my baby was due & whether: I knew if it was a boy or a girl. I found MFP when I came home that day.....
  • I guess my post title was misleading. I was not taking the sample personally. I was just offended that they thought it was appropriate to hand out to anyone.

To me, it's another example of fat-shaming. What of the girls/women who are fragile and will take it personally?

I really didn't mean to make this about me. It's about stores using shame to sell BS products.

Then again, as someone else pointed out, this is exactly Sephora's business. Maybe next time I'll get anti-aging eye cream.

I can think of very few instances in which it is ok for someone to be fat....Idk.... fat shaming? really? being fat is bad for you...what do you expect? just like smoking is bad for you....anorexia is bad for you....idk just seems stupid

You titled the thread "Did Sephora call me fat?" You asked in a follow-up post if we think it's okay for Sephora to call you fat. But you aren't taking it personally, and you didn't mean to make this about you? Nice try.

Let's be rational about this. Sephora didn't name the product, and they don't pass out samples of it for the purpose of shaming you or anyone else. They pass out samples primarily for two reasons: 1) People like to shop at places that give away free stuff. This means more customers coming into the store. If you wait until they've purchased something to give them the free stuff, then whenever they need mascara or eyeliner or a new nail polish, they'll come to your store to buy it because you give away samples when other stores don't. And while they're in your store, they are likely to look around and find other things they want to buy, too. 2) Giving away samples is a way of introducing customers to new products. If a certain product starts selling really well after a sample period, then the store knows it has a winner and will buy more of that product wholesale to sell in their stores. If a product doesn't start selling after a sample period, then the store will devote less shelf space to that product.

Samples are a way to get more people in the store and to figure out which products will sell and which ones are duds. At no point does anyone in the Sephora management hierarchy decide to give away certain products to certain customers as a way of saying "You're fat, and you should be ashamed." Get serious.

Do you think it's okay for them to call me fat? Just curious as to your person opinion.

I don't think they called you fat.

They just told you to take a hint.

No. However in your mind some how you twisted it to fit that idea , so the question is why do you think their is possibility that you may fit their criteria if they were in fact targeting heavier people?

    Samples are samples.
