I think people should mind their own business and let people sit wherever the hell they want.0

Let's ask CS Lewis: "Lovers are normally face to face, absorbed in each other; Friends, side by side, absorbed in some common interest. "
I prefer to face my lovers and rub shoulders with friends. But you know, whatevers.
It wouldn't be weird if there were two friends and they both sat on the same side of the booth with just the two of them?0 -
Awk.Ward... Someone sat next to me on a dinner date like 12 years ago, and it was very awkward. (I did NOT want to see him again.)0

I think two people on one side of the booth is weird no matter what.

During the meal, across from each other. Splitting the dessert is when we sit next to each other.0

Siting on the same side of the table allows for superior tag-team people watching0

I like sitting next to each other. Cheap feels are easier. :smokin:
This. Especially if you both enjoy being naughty in public.0 -

We usually sit side by side at restaurants so we can people watch together. I've never considered, nor cared what anyone thinks about this. It also makes it easier to whisper nasties in his ear and steal food off his plate.0

There'd be some elbow battles if I sat next to my wife at dinner. I'd win, but there would a battle nonetheless.0

not sure why it would be considered inappropriate unless there was some specific hand placements going on. I'd rather sit across so I can actually see who I'm talking to0
-
For me it depends on where we are at. If there is a view and its only one way sure sit together.
I didn't even know there are "rules" for this. Who cares what others do if its harmless?0 -
I'm more of the preference of across from. This way you can hold hands while looking at each other.

This is not something that I would I would suggest on a random date. I think it works for those more serious relationships.0

Is no one else reminded of the scene from Fargo? Where Marge and Mike meet for lunch and he awkwardly sits next to her... and she's like NOPE. Hahahaha.
If it's a couple that is comfortable with it, that's great. But I've been on a few first dates where guys tried to sit that way and I have to admit it was weird.0
