    Charlotte: Welcome to our group. Glad you are having a better month healthwise. Nice to have someone also who knows the pain of arthritis & back pain. The bike experience is my fear as well. I would love to have a 3 wheel bike, so I did not have that fear of falling. They need to make training wheels for adults,LOL! The Wii fit board sounds great. Maybe I will have to ask for it for my birthday in Sept. Thank you so much for sharing. So look forward to your postings & hope we can continue to give you support too!
    Sodakat: Sounds like a great outing. Good for you for keeping on track & choosing to limit your sweets & chips, it's not easy, but we can make better choices each day! I too like MFP site as keeping calorie count & not denying myself anything helps me stick to it!

    I managed to lose 2 lbs this week, but still have another 2 to get back to where I was, before I can post it on my check in. One day at a time! Made it through dinner out last night & still kept under my calories. So hoping I can do the same on sat. fundraiser dinner. Thought I would share this motivating personal comment on someone who has lost a ton of weight!

    This is from a lady who lost 275lbs with mostly help from Weight Watchers. I thought she had a lot of good weight loss info!
    Good morning, dear friends! I’m often asked to share some of my healthy ‘every day’ habits that I have learned and adopted during the course of my journey to lose 275 lbs., and there are SO many, but for a start, here are five:

    (1) Veggies!! I try to eat veggies at EVERY meal- yes, even for breakfast.

    (2) Water!! I try to drink at LEAST ½ my current body weight in ounces- but I do count coffee, tea and an occasional diet soda in that count.

    (3) Activity!! I try to keep active in my daily life… small things DO add up! Parking further away and walking, standing during activities I have sat for before, taking stairs instead of an elevator when possible.

    (4) Portion control!! I still weigh and measure my food. I keep two sets of measuring cups and spoons in a basket on our counter- and a food scale in a handy drawer- NO MORE GUESSING!

    (5) MINDful eating vs. mindLESS eating! Before my weight loss journey, I ate ‘mindlessly’. No real conscience about what or how much food I was eating- now, I strive to eat ‘mindfully’- keeping in mind that what I want MOST, is to be healthy and lose weight, and giving into every craving I have will NOT make that happen.

    Hello everyone!

    At 55 years and 135 lbs to lose (that's a whole person!) this site looks very interesting to me. I only started using MFP a couple of weeks ago, but have been concentrating on healthier choices since January 5th. My community & company had a "Biggest Loser" challenge that started then and ended on March 17th. I was able to lose 21lb and increase my exercise. Even that "small" loss has helped me to feel so much better, I can only imagine how it will feel when I get to my goal. I am very lucky to have been able to join a gym that is on my way home from work. I pass right by it. At first I tried the treadmill and bike, but I ended up with such pain in my joints (not muscles) that I could barely walk. I have found that getting in the pool and "water jogging" is very kind to me and I enjoy it. Finding an exercise I enjoy has been an issue, so I'm glad this is working. Of course, just lifting this extra weight every day should be considered exercise! Once on "The Biggest Loser" TV show, one of the trainers put on a "fat suit" weighted to the "before" weight of one of the contestants. He then climbed about 5 steps and had a very difficult time. Even though he was very fit and strong he was out of breath and struggled to do it. No wonder we ache and are tired by the end of the day.

    Well, I'm here checking in and that is a good thing. I saw some suggestions that reminded me of what I was doing when I was losing. Summer will be here before you know it and I want to swim. I need to get back on my bike as it makes me feel like a kid. Thanks for being here and hope as the days go by I get myself to participate more.

    Does anyone out there have trouble staying with in the allotted points for sugar. I find that if I have more than one piece of fruit a day I am over my limit. Milk also has 11 points. I know our bodies process the sugar in fruit differently. Yet, I know my mom was diabetic and she had to watch how much fruit she ate too. It is still sugar.

    I'm not sure what points you are talking about. Is it weight watchers? I thought they now consider all fruits and vegetables "free" calories in an effort to encourage people to eat complex carbohydrates.

    MFP has sugar grams set fairly high, IMO. I rarely go over and have decided I'm more interested in tracking my fiber intake than sugar so have replaced the sugar column with fiber. Now it sure seems like the MFP settings for fiber are awfully low! I imagine this is all from the USDA research and recommendations (the MFP default amounts).

    Wow our page is growing & everyone has a lot of good feedback. My success today is getting my 8 glasses of water in. :drinker: But my failure has been wanting to eat more today. Thank goodness this is my last day of prednisone. :frown: I'm not sure. I live in Round Rock, Tx. & it was so beautiful again today. So I was able to get out. I am still having this nasty cough hang on though. Here's hoping we all enjoy the outdoors tomorrow. :glasses: :glasses: :glasses:

    Hi Ladies, Welcome to all the new people like myself. I've been on MFP for about 2 years now and had some serious success in my first year. I had planned a trip to Disney with my daughter and grandkids and worked hard toward the goal of fitting on the rides. It was wonderful to take the trip and not have the embarrasment of being turned away from a ride. I had that happen once at another theme park. The poor fellow working on the ride tried so hard to help me get the safety bar down over my belly but just couldn't do it. I had to get off and leave which was excrutiatingly embarrassing. Unfortunately, after my disney trip I had some health issues and I fell off the wagon so to speak. I gained back all the weight I had lost (sound familiar) and now I'm back to square one. Its a problem most of us have faced at one time or another. Its hard to change your life style to a healthier one even when you know its so important. Its not like being addicted to drugs, alcohol or any other vices. When you are addicted to food, you can't just avoid it. We have to eat to survive. Thats why sites like this are so important. The support and advice that we can offer each other goes a long way in making this journey successful. I'm planning another trip. This time to Vegas with my sister to celebrate her 65th and my 60th birthdays. I'd like to go in October and now just have to convince her to start saving her pennies. I like having a trip as a goal for my successes.
    Hope everyone has had a successful week and are planning a great weekend. I'm working tonight and then I have a week off which I'm so looking forward to. Think I'm going to try to start my spring cleaning. Its great exercise and very fulfilling. Need to get my basement cleaned out so when the grandkids come to visit they can play down there. Right now my family room is full of boxes of stuff. Going to make a few runs to the dump and maybe to good will if there is anything worth giving away. Don't forget to drink your water ladies.     Charlotte-great goal to work toward that trip to Vegas. It has been many years ago since I went & I know you & your sister will have a great time.
    Friday goals for weekend- seeing the new Tyler Perry movie, Single Mom's Club today , then this weekend getting mulch for yard, New hummingbird feeder, wire & some petunias...so some yard work maybe. Got to get it out before Sunday because it is supposed to rain. But also watch myself & not over do.
    Monthly challenge- drink up :drinker: :drinker:

    Well what a wonderful topic to find. I am a 62 year old Gramma of 15, married with 6 children. In recent years I find myself looking at an old fat, short woman looking back at me from the mirror. I hate to go into my boring health problems so I will make it short and sweet. In 2011 during a bout of debilitating back pain I learned for the first time in my life that I have severe scoliosis. No doctor ever bothered to tell me that. Needless to say I am slowly shrinking in height. My tallest was 4' 11 3/4" now at last measurement I am down to 4' 9 1/4". And sadly I am very over weight to top it off. When I began this weight loss journey I was embarrassingly 210 lbs. Last May is when I became determined to change my life. I woke up to the fact that with the weight and scoliosis I was going to be crippled soon if I didn't make some changes in my lifestyle and thinking. Pretty much on my own I have been able to lose 41 lbs. I am feeling much better and look a little better, there's a long way to go. My worst problem is trying to find clothing that fits very short, chubby women! I have to alter almost everything I buy and I'm not very good at it. I hope to lose 50-55 more lbs and feel very hopeful about doing so. Will I have to go clothes shopping in the children's department? Oh well, when life gives you lemons....., right? ; 0)

    gosh I am soon to be 57 even though I do not really know how I got this old so quick...would like to be in this group...I did well for about 9 months and then with winter and having to work long hours through the first 6 weeks of the year have backslid...this week I have started back with doing what I know I need to do...logging and exercising....I felt so much better when I was doing things right and do not know why I allowed myself to slip...human I guess. It is not like I binge or eat huge amounts or anything...just an extra 200 calories a day or so and the weight starts creeeping back. So here I am again and plans are to stick with it...

    As I said earlier we have a fundraiser dinner on Sat. night, so it is suppose to be a roast beef dinner. I definitely will have to keep my calories down for the day to keep them for dinner time. My hubby & I plan to go bowling tonight again, so will burn some calories there & a little walk there & back home. Sat. will probably be on the treadmill & some exercises with weights, as it is still too cold for a walk. We are having turkey brautwurst for dinner tonight, coleslaw, & probably a baked potato.

    This group is getting quite big already! Possible 23 of us already. I am planning to change the group to under groups on the Message board & make it an exclusive group. Closed to others until the time we need more from some falling off. I plan to do this on the 1st. of April. It is so much easier to keep up with all the comments with a smaller group of supporters. I will let you know when I do this. Hope all you gals have a great weekend! Keep this in mind: Always Aim for progress on your journey--"NOT" perfection!!     So, my size 20W jeans are getting loser. Very good feeling. Last fall when I was "watching what I eat" before hearing about and joining MFP, I bought two pairs of size 18W jeans off ebay in the brand I like right now, Ruff Hewn. They fit nicely now but sag down a bit after I've had them on all day. This brand, or at least the styles I've bought in the Ruff Hewn brand, has some elastic in the pant, which helps them hold their shape a bit.

    Well, the point of my post is that this morning after I put on a pair of the size 20W which still fit but are quite loose, I looked in the mirror and noticed there were some horizontal "creases" across the front of the legs. I took a better look and realized that the "creases" are stretched out sections of elastic that are now not as snug on my thighs so they pucker out a bit. Yuk! I'd say I must have stretched those babies a bit too much before I lost weight. Honestly, I took that pair off. Didn't want to see that odd puckering fabric.

    I still have 2 pairs of 20W in other brands that fit okay and the size 18W that are newer, but I'm going to pay attention now. Just getting into jeans without struggling with the waist used to be acceptable to me. Pretty low standards, LOL. Now I care a bit more. Thank goodness.

    I checked on ebay today for some size 16W so I can have some waiting in the wings but didn't find any I like. I'm going to hit the thrift stores this weekend for a couple pairs of 18W and keep watching for 16W as they come onto ebay. Don't want to pay full department store prices for sizes I plan to pass up eventually.

    i have outgrown all my clothes :angry: :angry: so everyd ay i just wear stretchy shorts and a tshirt. the more i think about how desperately i need to lose the weight the worse i seem to do. gonna try and just work on 10 pounds and not let the rest bother me :laugh:
    emailed someone at a hospital today to start the process of finding a job.....made me VERY nervous but i gotta do it

    After one year of caring for my husband through many a health crisis...I have gained back the weight lost. So now I begin again with 75+ pounds to lose. Hope this group proves to be a support for aging , arthritic but optimistic gals.

    My immediate plan is to shop smart this weekend and fill the fridge with good choices.

    Hi Ladies, I am happy to say, I've got a week off. I slept most of today so I know I'm going to have a long night. But that's okay, I'm going to drink lots of water and watch moves. Having a love affair with Josh Duhamel and Zac Effron tonight. I know they're a little young for me, but hey, a girls gotta dream. lol

    Karen - good luck with the job search. Its tough finding any nursing positions with all the layoffs happening but you've got experience so hopefully something will come up. Don't sweat the big goals, focus on that first 10. You've done it before, you can do it again.

    Josie - I'm all in favor of a smaller group so that we can stay supportive of each other. I hate to turn people away when they fit the criteria, but I've been in large groups here and its overwhelming to try to keep up.

    Steppingstone - if you're looking for aging, arthritic, but still optimistic women, you've come to the right place. Welcome to the group. I have lost and gained more times than I want to admit to and it gets harder each time but I'm still hopeful that the trim, healthy person I used to be is still somewhere buried beneath all this fat. I keep trying to find her but she's a slippery one. lol

    Sodakat - good for you for buying smaller sizes and working toward that goal. Wish I could be that forward thinking. I just want the clothes that I do have to fit better. Good luck with your searching.

    Have a great w/e everyone. Don't forget to keep up with your water intake ladies. Minimum 8 glasses but push for 10.

    Hubby & I had fun bowling again tonight for 1 1/2 hours. I had one of my worst games tonight, lots of gutter balls, lol. My sciatica was really bothering me & my knees, but made it through it. At least I burned some calories!!Have a good weekend girls!

    Socialist-I like the idea of the visual goal of one size smaller pants plus not spending a lot of money on them. I have so many different sizes in my closet that I can't wear & I have to admit it is discouraging.
    Single Mom's Club movie today was so funny if anyone gets the chance to go see it. I also met my challenge goal for water. :drinker:
    Josie- I bet you are just about stir crazy from all the snow. We have had several nice days here but for the next 3 days we will have rain. You know I don't know if it is because of my arthritis or what but I am 3 inches shorter then when I was in high school. Does anyone have a day/evening that is harder about controlling your eating. Wednesday and Friday evenings are the hardest for me. :sad:

    I am just starting I sent a message to Josie. Just found this group. I think I fit :wink: I have over 75#s to lose & I Turned 56 March 7th. I have been doing MFP for just over a year. I started Jan 1st 2013. ( nope wasn't a new years resolution !) I had been mentally gearing myself up to make a commitment to a lifestyle change. For life :drinker: No more diets for me. They sometimes worked, but eventually I would gain all back and then some.
    MFP Is a great place to hold my self accountable, find support, be supportive and enjoy everyone elses company that is on the same journey.
    I am an open book. Feel free to visit my profile, blog ( I don't write in it very often, just when the mood strikes me :laugh: And or Check my food diary My loss is on my ticker. I had lost 15-20 #s before I started MFP and was starting to gain some back.
    I hope to make some new friends with you guys.
