100lbs? I'd be impressed too.0

Wow!0

I'd be wondering why not just do a bench press.
Suppose there's less worries if you can't lift the weight again if you can't stick a bench in a rack/cage.0 -
I love watching people who are doing amazing things at the gym!0

Wow!!!!!......I think I can barely do one pull up.....with no weights....that would have been cool to see.....:)0

I was appreciating to view too much to care why he was doing what he was doing.0 -
Maybe he was trying to get taller by stretching out his torso?0

Pull ups, particularly wide grip, target the back a lot more than bench press does.0 -

Yup. Chest exercise vs back and Lats. Damn impressive show though, OP0 -

Until he can unhinge his arms and put them on backwards, I'd say he can't use the bench press to work his back.0 -
Most guys at my gym don't even try doing pullups. Doing pullups with a100 pounds weight is awesome!!!!0
-
Oops, my bad - read "press ups" for some reason.
Then yes; impressive. Best I've had is 45lb or something in weighted pull ups, 5 reps. Would like to get it up to bodyweight one day - so be able to do one armed pull ups. Good long way off for me.0 -

I can manage chin ups @ 60lbs for 5 reps. Not sure I could do half that @ pull ups. That is impressive indeed OP.0
-
impressive and inspirational! its my goal to some day do ~two~ consecutive pull-ups, :laugh:0
-
damn, that's impressive! I am working on assisted pullups and I have it set to take off 88 pounds, and I weigh 188, so I'm basically pulling up what he was adding on. LOL.0

But it works different muscle groups. And pull ups, as the name applies, is a pulling exercise. Bench presses are push. It's good to have both and I'd bet this guy does do both.
EDITED to note that the person I was responding to misread bench press as press ups (aka push ups). But still leaving my original post up because I can.0 -
Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one that misses things - as you'll note I've already noted that I mis-read the initial post and thought it said push ups .0

Didn't "miss" it necessarily. I responded to your first post. Your second was a ways down and just didn't feel like editing mine because overall, it still presents the info about the press and pull. But my bad, I'll edit...didn't mean to make you so defensive.0 -
But, now I've made YOU "defensive" - maybe I should edit my post?
(ps - the smilies in both cases were added to show it was said in jest!)0 -
What's a gym?0

I get so self-conscious at the gym (Part of the reason I do my workouts at home). Most of the weight machines leave me befuddled, and when I ask for assistance, I get sneered at. I wonder if there is a course/class I could take that might give some pointers and such on these machines. Also, I get intimidated so easily by the other gym-goers.0
-
Who sneers at you?
Most gym staff seem happy to help.
Or you could get a personal trainer for one session to show you the basics.
I would personally look to a routine like starting strength or new rules of lifting for women.
The former, at least, only has five exercises, so not TOO much to learn .0 -
Some of the staff have, actually. Maybe where I go isn't the best, but they don't seem to be too helpful.0

Sounds like a pretty crappy place. Sorry. Most gyms, at least none of the ones I've been to, aren't like that. You can always read the books above, they're good guides, and just ignore everyone else and focus on you. Then again, a smile and a little friendliness go a long way.0 -
Fair enough Thanks, I'll look into them. It also doesn't help that I am very shy and nervous. But thank you for the advice and the books0
