I've just now discovered the many uses of coconut oil...and I've tried some out myself!
I oil pull 20 minutes/day to help my teeth recover from the hormone induced gingivitis from pregnancy (WORKS WONDERS)
I use it as a moisturizer
...I've even used it as a personal lubricant (o_O)
Granted I haven't even COOKED with this stuff yet, but I'll get there!
What do you all use coconut oil for?

I add a little melted oil to my dog's food once a day. It helps with their dry skin and they think they're getting a treat!
I've also used it as a face moisturizer. And with cooking replaced olive or vegetable oil required in recipes.0 -
I put a tablespoon in my coffee, sometimes. It's creamy and delicious0

I use it as a moisturizer and I love it. I have a major vitamin D deficiency and am supposed to get 30 minutes a day in the sun so I sunscreen my face but put coconut oil on my arms and legs and I ever burn at all but I am starting to turn a beautiful brown color.
I've made a chocolate bark out of it before and I've used it in tea and coffee and I have a coconut oil cooking spray I use ..
But song at that is just about all I've used it for.0 -
I use it for my BPC and for cooking and baking - well for almost everything0
-
Use it in my smoothies, all over body, under makeup as a primer, and hair! Just before I wash my hair, I massage it into my scalp, leave it on for about 30 minutes then wash. I am addicted to it.0

I believe that you can use it for ear infections, eye infections, etc. as well.
I used to nurse, so I know of all the benefits of breastmilk, and from my research, I think that coconut oil has a very similar compound to it and can be used for many of the same things....other than letting your kid drink it.0 -
I will just eat a teaspoon if my fats are low for the day.
To those that add it to coffee, I tried this but just ended up with an oily layer floating on top if my coffee. What did I do wrong?0 -

I use mine for: pumpkin latte, baking, cooking, skin, my teeth, hair, face, my feet after showering, elbows to get rid of dry areas, as butter on toast or banana bread and last of all vaginal sex.0 -

P.S. Note number 500

I use it any time I bake white fish....gives it a unique flavor0

I just started using it as a moisturizing hair mask! I colour my hair so it gets pretty dry, but a few times a week, I saturate my ends and let it sit for 30 minutes. My hair feels better every time I do it!
Also, I have pretty sensitive skin, so I like to use it as an after bath/shower lotion/moisturizer, and it makes my tattoos look more fresh! I am never buying regular lotion again
And of course, I cook with it. When I need to sauté something, frying up eggs, or popcorn, a little goes a long way. I'm pretty obsessed.0 -
I wouldn't ever use coconut oil down there.
But I use it to remove make up- moisturizer- I use it in my hair and for my skin.
I keep a seperate container for the kitchen for cooking or adding to food- it's great to reheat chicken with too- throw a dime/nickle size dollop on it food and it keeps it from drying out when you reheat it.0 -
Everything. OP I see a little one in your profile pic... CO is an amazing diaper rash cream.0

I oil pull every day. I've read after time it can help receding gums to grow back, so that was the reason I started. It hasn't yet that I can tell, but it takes months for the effects apparently. I still love it though because of other differences...my tongue always had a little white coat (even though I would brush it daily) and now my tongue is a nice healthy pink. Also helped with bad breath (which is tied to the tongue thing too I'm pretty sure).
I brush my teeth first (oil pulling softens the enamel apparently, so you don't want to brush after) and then oil pull for 20. Feels like fresh from the denist clean every day :-) Can't wait for my next dentist visit.0 -
I use it for oil pulling, toothpaste, shower "soap", face wash (kills acne and makes skin so soft! My skin hasn't been this nice in a long time!), cooking oil, and yes it's actually amazing as personal lubricant, I concur! ;P0

I use it on my skin (I have excema and it's great for it!) and I mix it with a little bit of sugar for a face and lip scrub.
My bf and I use it as a lube! Its amazing, works in water, smells great and is great for your skin and not harmful when absorbed! We use the extra virgin organic kind so it has a very low sugar content. We also use it for massages. You can warm it a bit in the microwave!
Haven't tried using it for cooking, but friends of mine use it and also in smoothies.
There are TONS of uses for it! And I can get it pretty cheap here at our Bulk Barn....they sell tons of stuff in bulk so you can take as much or little as you need.0 -
I tend to get suspicious when the media begins to make a big fuss about a "new" miracle food product that's good for everything--anybody remember a few years back (quite a few years, yes, I'm that old!) when soy was the "wonder" item? It was great, everybody should eat it, helped prevent cancer, etc, etc. Now it's one of the major allergy food groups. So whenever some is being raved about as "good for everything", my inner skeptic raises a sarcastic eyebrow and muses, "What will people be saying about this product 20 years from now?"0

I am drinking it in my coffee right now with a little irish creamer its amazing ... I have eatten it plain(well melt in microwave for 30seconds and took a shot of it) I just started w/ it bc I saw all of the amazing & natural benifits it offers. I need to try this as a lotion I guess we will see...0

Sorry but I don't know how to find proper research on this.. where should I look. Anyone have a good link please?
I just always knew oil based things shouldn't be used down there, guess the vaseline I used as teenager didn't kill me either but hey... just trying to learn.0 -
Am I the only one who doesn't know what "oil pulling" is? I have literally never heard of this.0

I don't know what it does internally, but I was at my witts end with a really bad outbreak of excema one year and had tried everything. A friend recommended coconut oil and after using it for a few days after my usual shower, it started to clear up and the itching eased considerably. I am always skeptical too....I have to see something work for myself. I can't speak for anyone else but I have had good experience with it for skin uses.0 -
I mix a little into my dog's food daily, it's great for her skin and coat and she absolutely loves it! I cook with it and I also use it as a face/body moisturizer and make up remover. I read somewhere that oil pulling will cause crowns to loosen. Anyone know if that is so?0

I just recently started cooking with coconut oil and really like it. I used to be an olive oil freak and made sure I got at least 1 or more tablespoons of it into my diet every day. Now, if I'm cooking, I'll use coconut oil (almost exclusively) when I would have used olive oil or spray oils before, unless it's something Italian... I definitely use olive oil for that. If it's something cold that I'm preparing (mostly salads), I'll still use olive oil. I did add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil to a smoothie the other day and I didn't happen to notice any difference from my usual smoothie, so I don't know if I'll do that again. I have too many cooked things I could use the oil for.
Oh, and I did use coconut oil instead of butter/margarine when I made grilled cheese/fried egg sandwich, the other day. It was good, but I used too much of it and the bread was left too oily. The outside was properly crunchy, but the oil soaked inward. I would definitely do this again, but with less oil.
Does anyone have a suggestion for how to soften coconut oil without totally melting it? That was part of why I ended up with too much on my bread... it was so hard, it was difficult to spread it without tearing the bread.0 -

I only know because there was a topic in Chit Chat about it.
It's using oil for mouth wash for like 20 minutes.
I can't gargle/swish for 2 minutes.
It's mostly anecdotal- no science supports it.0 -

I checked with my doctor before using it. I figure something natural, such as an organic oil, is better than a synthetic lube! I can't even pronounce some of the ingredients in some lubes! LOL I'd rather know exactly what I'm putting down there! I've been using it for over 2 years and no issues and completely healthy down there. But like I always say, everyone is different. You can read stuff online for DAYSSSSS and still not know what to believe. I say talk to people that use it and talk to your doc or gyn.0 -
I think coconut oil is ok for anal sex but not sure about vaginal use. I believe for vaginal sex it should be water based.. sorry if I'm wrong.
This is important if using condoms because oil-based products can rot latex. Otherwise it's fine (unless one has a coconut allergy).
Ok, I hope you are right. I wouldn't mind trying it if it's fine since I have so much coconut oil around. I am still not sure about it though. Does anyone know for sure. Guess I better go search but then I wasn't really that interested till now.
I checked with my doc about using it for vaginal sex and he said as long as it is extra virgin organic (less sugars = less irritaion and less chances for a yeast infection) there should be no issues. We've been using it for almost 2 years with no issues and my skin and that area are very sensitive. I usually wash up after if we use a lot though, just because it can be pretty greasy! LOL Everyone is different though so if you aren't sure, ask your doc or gyn or just try a little once.
Thanks. Good to hear what a doctor had to say about it :flowerforyou:0 -

You can lightly rub it in your hands, that softens it. But if you are eating it, make sure your hands are clean! LOL0
