And if you are....so? Who cares about the disapproval of strangers on the internet? Bring on the peasants with pitchforks (yawn).

    Pretty much this^^ =D

Pretty much the rudeness that I speak of,fortunately, I LOVE the IGNORE feature and I wont see your response (which will be rude I'm sure) so don't waste your time.

Wow, with that stress level you are going to have a hard time losing weight.

That's just fact, BTW, stress, hard to lose weight. And if that comment was rude, you are in for a rough internet life.

From the woman whose post and consequent thread is rooted (ostensibly) in addressing the concerns of people facing the disapproval of strangers on the internet?

That post was hardly rude. Life must suck for you. Good luck with your butt hurt.

I agree with most of this, but there are occasionally posts by people who are expressing a position different from the majority that is based on their own experience in successfully maintaining or losing their weight. Those people are drowned out by the clamor as well.

Well - speaking as an 18-day-old newbie to MFP, I thought the thread was hilarious and very good for people who cannot function when they get criticized or *shocker* someone disagrees with them in cyberspace.

I love reading through the forums, and typically when there's a controversial post, I'll happily munch on my air-popped popcorn and take to heart the replies from people whose tickers speak for themselves. Obviously common sense comes into play because if you've lost 126 pounds and you only eat lettuce every second Tuesday of the month, that ain't gonna work for me lol. I have found the threads informative (I haven't actually started a post myself....don't need to.....there's probably 18,573 posts for every possible question), and I'm glad that there are people who respond truthfully because that's what us newbies need.

And yes, I know most people here aren't registered dieticians or nutrition specialists or personal trainers......If I wanted those, I'd have to open up my purse strings. This is the Internet, the advice is free, the differing opinions are free, and criticism is probably gonna happen....meh...I'm a newbie too, but I hope my panties don't get in a wad if someone disagrees with me.

Okay, now having said all that, I have some questions:

    1) What's TDEE?
    2) So I've only lost 13 pounds in 18 days and I think I'm stalling - help!
    3) What's the best place to buy the Dr. Oz recommended stuff
    4) If MFP gives me 1480 calories, and I exercise and burn 1000 calories, I should still probably only eat 200 calories so I lose weight faster, right??
    5) WHY IZ EVERYOEN ALWAYS SAYING THAT MY POSTS R HARD TO READ COZ I THINK THEY ARE FINE AND I DONT NEED TO SPEL THANGS WRITE OR TO USE THOSE FUNNY THANGS THAT COME AFTER SENTENCES COZ I CAN RED MY POSTS ALLRIGTH.

Kidding :) It's all in fun! Sorry if I offended anyone :) Just a little Saturday humor from the Great White North. Have a fabulous day!

:drinker: good attitude and good post and  @ the questions

but you forgot question number 6: "someone disagreed with me in a thread and now my bottom is hurting, what's the best action to take? Crying into my pillow or making a "why is everyone on here such big blue meanies!!!!" thread or should I do both?"

    Why does everyone hate me?

Because I don't need to lose weight. I can eat what i want, and I look good. :)

...and because I make posts like this one...very often in response to someone who is struggling to lose weight, struggling with food choices, and struggling with their self-image.

Well let's see, is everyone capable of respecting keyboard interactions as they would real life? Based on the several mingy responses focused on me a person (vs. just the topic information), which includes your lovely response, I'd say you and they are just as guilty of needing this Guide as anyone else who would apparently back hand a stranger on the street for helping you change a tire in the event that you were doing it wrong.

You don't know me, so I'm curious what compels you to be so unpleasant to a random person that you feel no responsibility for your interactions with others in a virtual environment? Nothing I said in my OP was directed at you in any personally deprecating way it didn't begin, "Dear Spacebean," so I sincerely find your response interesting from a psychological stand point and was the focus of my topic in the first place. It's not about "addressing the disapproval of strangers on the internet" so congratulations on failing that part, however it IS about how to conduct yourself so as to not feel the need to stomp away from MFP in a huff and forget the purpose you joined in the first place.

It's okay that you can't see past the fun in what I wrote I expected there to be plenty of curmudgeons looking for their moment in the sardonic sun hoping that maybe they could make some girl slit her wrists across three states because they can't separate an idea on a screen from a living breathing person when there is no face to face interaction involved. Why that is? Astounds me... but instead of it bothering me (which I'm sure you'd hoped it would) it just tells me a lot about who are... and do you care? Probably not, because I know I don't.

Oh but side note? MANY thanks for the Prince image... he's a home town boy in my neck of the woods and a musical love of mine so that disapproving glare you'd hoped would be effective in relaying your distaste just made me smile. =D

WTF? This is incomprehensible. Who's stomping away from MFP in a huff and forgetting why I joined?? I am still here, using the site as a tool, which is why I joined. Really....
What I said was that I am not bothered by the disapproval of strangers, and what in merry hell does that have to do with " some girl slicing her wrists across three states"........"disapproving glare"???? seriously, I have no idea what you are trying to convey in this convoluted post.
